It was a perfect spot for our family of 5. The view was amazing. You could walk right out the door and walk down the stairs to Frenchman Bay. It was also close to everything - Bar Harbor, Southport. We had a great time!

We loved our stay at the Spruce Chalet. Everything was very clean upon arrival, communication with Peter was excellent, and we were close to everything we wanted to do in and around Bar Harbor. The cozy space was perfect for our family of five. Thanks for a great week!
Just a perfect Maine cabin. Rustic but all you need. Beautiful view of Frenchman Bay. We loved it! Host reached out to check on us. Perfect stay!

Thanks for coming. Glad you enjoyed your stay. If you can think of anything I can do to make Spruce more convenient and enjoyable for future guests, please let me know.
We loved the location and view from this cozy cabin. It was the perfect spot to relax after hikes and a short drive to Bar Harbor for dinner, coffee or breakfast. We enjoyed dinner at Sweet Pea the first night and lobster rolls at Lund’s the next day. Otherwise we tried several places in Bar Harbor which were all good; cafe this way, side street cafe, Blaze and Galyn’s. Also, Peter was a great host.

We loved having our coffee on the patio in the morning and watching the water and wildlife. Very quiet yet close to Bar Harbor and Acadia. Also appreciated Peter’s recommendations.
Beautiful location, very quiet and secluded. Perfect for a getaway with my husband. Owner was wonderful, made sure we had everything we needed. Close to area attractions. Highly recommend!
Spruce chalet was great little spot to stay in Acadia for our 3 teen (14, 14, and 16)boys and us. Close to the park and downtown Bar Harbor. Great water views! The house really had everything we needed. Kitchen was well stocked. Peter was very responsive for anything that came up.
Loved the cabin - it was perfect for our family. We were happy to be out of town and on the water, beds were comfy and the cabin clean. Had enough pots and pans, utensils to cook meals.

Liked: Location
Disliked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication
Unfortunately our experience at this cabin was a really mixed bag. I’ll start with the positive. On one hand, the location is on a cliff overlooking the bay, It’s close enough to the park and BH but not in the crowds. The cabin has a lot of potential and could be really cool with some attention and TLC. The not great: the owner/manager seems nice but is in the Middle East, so there’s a 12 hour time difference and comms are either non existent or at very unusual times. The cabin has a lot of rules about check in so we showed up at the designated time of 5pm on a Saturday, which is pretty late. The cabin was filthy. Dirty floors, dirty bathroom and kitchen, linens on the floor, stained mattress pads and blankets, no spares and no cleaning supplies. We tried reaching the owner for hours… nothing. And due to the late hour on a Saturday we didn’t really have a plan b. So we went out and bought cleaning supplies, found his supply shed and covered the stained mattress pads and stained comforters the best we could. From then on we did communicate with the owner but again at odd times. He texted me around midnight a few times. Outdoor shower is broken, floor has soft/rot spots, and it needs more than a deep cleaning - it needs more regular maintenance and attention. With some effort and a present local manager it could be a 5 star cabin. But in its current state… it is clearly needing some extra attention.

Thanks for coming, Dan, sorry for the inconvenience's you experienced. We discussed these and I satisfied your requests. I hope you will browse previous reviews that show that your experience was an extreme outlier. It has an overall rating of 9.4. In fact, most reviews are 5 stars including for cleanliness and my responsiveness, too. I only texted you at late hours, because I was replying to your texts or phone calls. I am sorry to say that you've exagerated a few things. You stated that there are a lot of rules about checking in. In fact there is only one rule: not before 5:00 PM on Saturdays or earlier with advanced notice. We did not receive any early arrival request from you. You state that the outdoor shower was broken, but actually, it was undergoing a rebuild and had not been completed. You were well aware that it was being rebuilt because we texted about that. It is now fully functional. Again thanks for coming.
The cabin is beautiful, right on the water. It's rustic and I wouldn't want to explore MDI in other way! We had a baby with us, but his afternoon naps and early morning risings. were much more enjoyable with the beautiful view from the cabin.
This little cabin was the perfect getaway for my husband and I. Peter was so helpful-giving us great suggestions and guiding us as navigating to Bar Harbor for the first time. The canine was fully stocked, super cozy and the view was spectacular. The morning sunrise was glorious. The location was perfect for our stay the area to fully explore Acadia. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Beautiful property with water views and convenient to Bar Harbor and Acadia. We thought it was perfect for two but could also comfortably fit a family of 4-5. Peter was responsive and provided many useful recommendations to make our stay more enjoyable. Kitchen is well equipped. We would certainly stay again when in the area.

Cozy little cottage on the lake! We greatly enjoyed our home away from home. It is tiny but it was just what we needing in a landing pad for our day hiking trips in beautiful Acadia. There were some plumbing issues while we were staying there, but Peter got right on fixing it.

Thanks for coming, Alicia, I wish we could have resolved those plumbing issues immediately, but thanks for your forbearance. The shower head is being installed today. Please let me know if you think of ways I can make the experience for future guests.
Our family loved this little cabin - while tiny, it had all we needed and was truly the perfect location to explore Acadia and Mount Desert Island. We enjoyed the drive to and from the park and Bar Harbor. We also loved having Sweat Pea's and C-Rays so close and ate at Sweat Pea's twice! The lovely view, my daily yoga and coffee on the deck, the direct access to the stairs down to the shore, exploring the shore and water during low tide; we truly loved the stay. Thanks for sharing the chalet!!

Thank you for coming, Brianne, i strive to make Birch an enjoyable, convenient place for our guests. Your feedback is important, so if you can think of ways that Birch can be made more comfy and enjoyable, please let me know. Especially, it us gratifying to know you and you family had a nice stay. Thanks for coming to MDI
Views off the porch were stunning, The place was super cute and rustic as we expected. Great location and our favorite restaurants were all very near by. The shower however is like bathing with a straight jacket on...maybe worse than that. That is the only reason we would not return.

Thanks for coming, but sorry to hear you were disappointed with the shower. It is snug, but "straight jacket" might be a bit exaggerated! For future guests info, the shower surround is 2' 8" x 2' 3." Maybe it depends on the user's size. I am 6', 215 and I haven't been inconvenienced by the shower surround size.
Great place to stay overlooking beautiful view of Frenchmen Bay. Very clean and rustic cabin accompanied by high quality sheets and down comforter. Comfortable beds. Very good wi fi. Very attentive and responsive host. Quiet and restful environs 15 mins from the hub bub of bar harbor. Aldo short drive to Acadia. You can watch sunrise from the deck. And see it set down the road at Hadley Point.

About the host
Hosted by Peter Miano
I first came to Maine and Mt. Desert Island as an 18 year old bound for a year long volunteer assignment at Our School in Robbinston, about 100 miles east of MDI. That is when I fell in love with the land and seascapes of Maine, its natural beauty, its powerful seasons (if you haven't discovered Maine in Winter, maybe now is the time), and its rich heritage. Over the years, I returned often to Acadia and Downeast for family vacations.
Why they chose this property
After a long, tedious search for a place to buy and enjoy and after several frustrations, I found Shore Haven, although it wasn't called that at the time. It was love a first sight. In addition, I purchased the adjacent property, which has a Cape house. Shore Haven's unsurpassed natural setting and extraordinary access to all the amenities of MDI, not to mention all of Downeast and the interior as well, were strong attraction for me. Shore Haven's chalet's (Overlook, Spruce, Birch), and Cape (the Cape Lookout), offered the opportunity of welcoming others to enjoy MCI the same way that I do with my family and friends. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do. I hope the Maine coast enchants you the way is does me. Relax, have fun, soak up the atmosphere. Welcome to Shore Haven.
