The was great at communicating leading up to our trip and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. The last of activity and restaurants was also extremely helpful. Can’t say enough good things about this place and the view is hard to beat!
The cabin has an amazing view- sunrise and sunset are magical. We also saw eagles which was very cool. The cabin is close to Acadia but removed from the hustle and bustle of bar harbor. The bedrooms are on the small side so hard to fit the crib for our baby but otherwise it had everything we needed for a great stay!
We loved everything about this little place. The porch was a little piece of heaven and it coupled perfectly with a place up the hill that Peter also owned for a bigger family vacation. (I accidentally left my original review for the chalet there instead of here.) Would definitely stay again!
We had a great stay. We watched the sunrise each morning, pleasantly surprised by eagles flying past the deck and cautiously passing deer drive in most evenings. The rustic cabin with modern conveniences offered solitude, yet close to Bar Harbor, Acadia, and Southwest Harbor. Hadly Point Beach around the corner is a hidden gem for sunsets and star gazing. Peter was a great host as well and a very responsive communicator.
My family and I stayed here early in June! We loved it! The chalet has everything you need. The owner responds quickly and is very thoughtful! He even leaves recipes and popover trays! The most memorable part of the trip is my kids collected mussels on the shore and steamed them! I will recommend this chalet!
We had a wonderful stay, check in was smooth and easy, Peter was great about keeping us up to date with possible early check-in. The Bluebery Pie and Preserves were excellent! Peter was great with communication and giving recommendations for things to do and places to eat. The binder was extremely helpful. Thanks for a great stay Peter!! We will be back!
This was a beautiful scenic retreat - cabin with a view you’ve never experienced! We enjoyed the feel of the outdoors without camping. It was all we needed for resting every night after a long day of Acadia National Park adventures. It was cold in October but there were small heaters in every room to keep us warm.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Birch Cabin. We could watch the sunrise, eagles fly past seals in the bay and lobster fisherman check their traps every morning while drinking coffee from the deck or living room window. We had everything we needed and loved being a part of the Maine’s woods and cove experience. Peter is a fantastic host and communicator. The location is very close to Acadia National Park and the town of Bar Harbor. A really great authentic Maine experience!
Pleasant space, good location, and lovely setting. A few improvements, however, would be welcome, and a note with those details was left for the property owner/manager. Unfortunately, efforts to contact property managers will on the property were unsuccessful.
The birch cottage was our ideal getaway…peaceful, cozy, and views that are absolutely breathtaking. The proximity to everything MDI has to offer can’t be beat. Rev Peter has provided a nice compilation of favorite restaurants, hikes, markets, etc that we referenced daily. We especially enjoyed the restaurants Havana and Ironboard, based on his recommendations. The cottage itself is well equipped, which made eating in easy and enjoyable. We booked the birch cottage so that we would have something pretty to look at while our toddler napped in the afternoons. The views at this property far exceeded our expectations. This is truly a gem of a property. We hope to visit again next year.
Loved Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Salsbury Cove/Birch Chalet was perfect, we had beautiful sunrises every morning. A nature lovers in delight, we were greeted by a deer on our way down the driveway. Saw all kinds of birds, seagulls, loons, woodpeckers and even a bald eagle. Had a hummingbird fly around us on the deck. Saw otters in the morning, loved the sound of the waves crashing and watching the tides change! Peter was a fantastic host, he had everything available that you could possibly want. The area was very peaceful, chalet was very cozy. Location was easy to get around the whole island, lots of great restaurants if you didn't want to cook. Would definitely come back. We would highly recommend this place.
Peter's beautiful cabin was the perfect launching point for us for visiting Acadia and the surrounding area. The view out the living room/kitchen and on the deck is simply amazing. The sunrises were spectacular and the sound of waterfowl was everywhere all the time. I saw a bald eagle fly right by the house. We also saw harbor porpoises, seals, kingfishers, herons, and other waterfowl we don't even know out on the water.
The location is very very good. You are not far from Bar Harbor, Acadia, and Southwest Harbor at all. We hiked all over Acadia and enjoyed the scenery. We also enjoyed the local stuff nearby including Mainely Meat, Udder Heaven (incredible ice cream), and putt-putt.
Peter was a great host as well. He was very responsive and even helped me recover an important item that I left behind!!!
Hope to be back one day!!
The cabin was perfect. The caretaker and the owner were open for communication even months prior to our stay. Every question I had was answered, every amenity I needed was available. 15 min from BH and Acadia, stunning views in the morning, noon and night, five minutes from a lobster pound and ten minutes from the airport….This cabin is a hidden gem and I’m hesitant to hype it up so much, because I want it to be available when I need it again! Haha! The cabin was so well taken care of and the kitchen had everything I could need…I’d live here if I could. The cabin made the vacation, trust me. I’d choose Salsbury Cove’s Birch Chalet over any hotel, any bed and breakfast, any time, any day. 10/10, I’m already looking into when I can come back. And that complimentary bottle of blueberry jam?! I already ordered a case of it from Maine. I’m hooked. Thanks Peter!!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cabin in the woods that is so convenient to so many things to do. The views from the cabin are wonderful and the pictures don’t do it justice. Owner was great!
The property was clean and easy to access, the host was great and wanted to make sure we were happy. The property was rustic but clean. The kitchen had everything you needed.
Though a bit rustic, this property was ideal for exploring all Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor had to offer. Coming back after a long day was easy and relaxing with the scenic waterfront view to look at. Sunrises were beautiful and peaceful. The cottage is older, the floors creak, are a bit uneven and the bathroom shower is a bit small, but everything worked and it made for a wonderful stay.
Lovely bay front cabin was a perfect base for exploring Acadia. We enjoyed being able to sit on the deck in the mornings and evenings. Peter was a helpful and responsive host.
My wife and I spent five nights at the Birch Chalet and this is one of our favorite vacations. Check in was easy and the location is perfect. Our favorite part was the view from the deck and how quiet it was. Waking up everyday and walking out to the deck was a highlight. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was hot. We were only 10 minutes from downtown Bar Harbor with all the great restaurants and shops, but felt like we were all alone. The property had everything we needed for our stay and Shaun even brought us an iron by for us.
The Birch Chalet is located close to Acadia National Park and all the amazing sites and hikes. It was truly a great experience for us.
We had an amazing stay at the Birch Chalet. The views from the deck were the best part. We saw bald eagles multiple times! The location is the perfect distance from Acadia National Park and downtown Bar Harbor. It is very convenient but you also feel like you’re tucked away in your own little private oasis. Owner and property manager were extremely accommodating for us. Highly recommend for a family getaway. We will be back!
Wonderful views and endless mussels just down the stairs! Watch the eagles fly by and the stars at night, this place was a relaxing retreat from busy life.
Birch Chalet was utterly charming. Tucked back into the woods with a stunning view of the ocean, this warm, sun-filled cottage exceeded our expectations and worked perfectly for our family of four (two teens and two adults). Our host, Peter, was a delight to coordinate with, always replying promptly and providing lots of very useful info about the chalet and surrounding area. Acadia and downtown Bar Harbor were just minutes away, though we felt ensconced in natural beauty and enjoyed the quiet privacy of our retreat. The chalet was very clean and well-appointed—we had everything we needed and more: nicely stocked kitchen, including everything you’d want for making an unforgettable lobster & mussel feast. Waking up to that view each morning with a lovely deck and sofa from which to sip our coffee was an experience we’ll remember for years to come. We even spotted a harbor porpoise from the deck twice while relaxing there. No doubt about it, we’ll be back!

I first came to Maine and Mt. Desert Island as an 18 year old bound for a year long volunteer assignment at Our School in Robbinston, about 100 miles east of MDI. That is when I fell in love with the land and seascapes of Maine, its natural beauty, its powerful seasons (if you haven't discovered Maine in Winter, maybe now is the time), and its rich heritage. Over the years, I returned often to Acadia and Downeast for family vacations.

Why they chose this property
After a long, tedious search for a place to buy and enjoy and after several frustrations, I found Shore Haven, although it wasn't called that at the time. It was love a first sight. Its unsurpassed natural setting and extraordinary access to all the amenities of MDI, not to mention all of Downeast and the interior as well, were strong attractions for me. In addition, Shore Haven's house (Overlook) and two chalets (Spruce and Birch) offered the opportunity of welcoming others to enjoy MCI the same way that I do with my family and friends. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do. I hope the Maine coast enchants you the way is does me. Relax, have fun, soak up the atmosphere. Welcome to Shore Haven.
