Cozy, Relaxing Mountain Cabin - Updates Coming for Fall 2026!
Our cozy cabin in Todd is a serene getaway: kayak the New River, appreciate the cool mountain air, explore autumn leaf season, enjoy family time, or rip up the ski slopes. New for for Summer/Fall 2026: updated lighting, surfaces, and decor! New office, game room, man cave, and exercise space! Just 20-25 minutes from Boone and App State. Enjoy all the high country has to offer: tubing/paddling & fishing the New River, charming towns, App State, cruise the Parkway…or stay in and relax on the porch or by the wood-burning fireplace. Up to date furniture, mattresses, bedding, and the cookware to satisfy most foodies.
The Space: "Lady Elaine's Cottage" is a nicely-appointed, recently-updated 3 Bedroom/2 Bath retreat on 1.5 acres in the woods that comfortably sleeps 8 (+1 with air mattress). The stone fireplace is the centerpiece of the vaulted living room, and the wood floors & natural beadboard give the space a warm, cozy feeling while the wifi gives you all the streaming and connectedness you desire (bring your login credentials!). Have your morning coffee on the covered porch and enjoy the view...grill your burgers and steaks on the front deck in the afternoon...and play some ping-pong in the basement before you finish the day with a movie from your favorite streaming service. Master suite features a King bed and a large soaking tub; 2nd BR has a Queen bed; and 3rd BR sleeps 4 with two bunks. Sheets & towels are provided along with starter paper products, and checkout is hassle-free. Plenty of parking with space for 4-5 vehicles. Two kayaks stored in the garage are also available for guests' use on the nearby New River. (Seasonal notes: if it gets humid in the spring and summer, you can turn on the central air conditioning - which is not universally available in the high country; the driveway is steep so AWD or 4x4 may be necessary if it's icy or if winter weather turns severe.)
Access: Guests have access to the entire house and property, including the finished basement office and garage spaces with ping pong table/game room, man cave, and exercise area. The gravel road leading through the neighborhood will take you up the hill to our cottage, where you'll find ample parking in the driveway. Note that the driveway is somewhat steep, but there is a flat parking area to make loading and unloading easy. You can enter the cabin after 3pm on the first day, using the electronic door keypad at the top of the stairs that lead to the back porch. (Key codes & other instructions will be provided a few days before check-in.)
Other notes: With the cabin built on a mountainside, guests will need to walk up some outdoor stairs to get to the main level (although there is an alternate entrance with fewer stairs - message us if you need more details), and there is an interior stairwell, which does not have a door or gate, that leads to the basement & garage. Three external security cameras are installed. Some firewood is usually available but you may want to provide more (Plan B convenience store, Dollar General, or roadside stands). There is a twin blow-up bed available in addition to the 8 traditional bed spots, in case it's needed.
Necessities: Linens and towels are provided/set out. For your convenience we provide an initial supply of paper towels, toilet paper, and hand soap. You will need to provide additional paper products, dish detergent, laundry detergent, etc.

What a great stay we had in Todd! Home was delightful and very accomodating, very user friendly. We did not get to use the kayaks due to the weather, but was great that they were there, if needed!
We had a great stay at this cozy little cabin. Located in a great area. Close to New River and Boone and West Jefferson. Very secluded without being too secluded. Plenty of room and great view! Love the porch in the mornings.

We really enjoyed our stay. The house is warm, inviting, clean and well stocked. The rear deck has a private beautiful view and is a great place to relax, eat and play games. Loved the wood burning fp and tub in the master bedroom. We will absolutely stay here again.
This was the perfect place to stay. Close to everything yet not on top of other people. Cottage had everything you would need. Everything about this cottage was perfect.

Super clean and pics are an honest representation of the house and property. The wood interior and decor gave a cozy cabin feel. Hope to make it back late spring to use the kayaks! Beautiful area to visit! Definitely 5 stars.

Thanks Michael, the kayaks don’t get enough use - so please do come back!
Lady Elaine's cottage is an ideal location for your High Country getaway. We enjoyed App State football, exploring Todd, the Old Barn Winery and a round of golf at Mountainaire. The cottage is cozy, comfortable setting for gathering with family.

Kim, thanks for your kind review - we're so glad it was what you were looking for. This is exactly the experience we want our guests to have! All the best.
Our adult family really enjoyed this cabin. It was spacious and cozy at the same time. The kitchen had everything we needed. There were lots of games that we enjoyed. It was clean and well maintained. We would definitely stay here again. The only suggestion I have is to note in the description that the fireplace is wood burning, so we could have brought firewood if desired. In our case, the weather was actually too warm for a fire! In December!

Sheila, thanks for staying with us - we enjoyed hosting you! And please come again - you’ll love the upgrades we’re making in 2026!
It was a strangely warm December! Thanks for the feedback, we definitely want to highlight the wood-burning aspect of the fireplace - it makes it even cozier.
Beautiful place off the beaten path. Remote but close to everything that you go to the mountains to do. Very clean
and comfortable. Would recommend for sure!
We really enjoyed staying in Lady Elaine cottage. It was a very comfortable stay and perfect spot for our family to get together. We enjoyed many things in the area. Tubing on the New River and putting our toes in the water at Todd Island. Also convenient to many breweries. We also loved the shops in West Jefferson. We can’t wait to come and we would stay again.

Teresa, it was great to have you - you were a great guest. We like the breweries too…we’d be happy to host you again!
House is beautiful, has all you should need for your stay away from home. We had a great time while staying there. There are neighbors close enough to hear/see if you are both outside. The full/trundle beds are more for kids.

Lovely cabin with many nearby attractions. The cabin was spacious, comfortable, cozy and clean. Beautiful views from the large front porch. Plenty of games and books for the family. The ping pong table was a big hit for my family. We had a very short trip but found the cabin to be perfect for our visit. Instructions were clear and communication with the owners was very good.

Thanks so much Lacey for the kind words. We’re glad you enjoyed the holiday with your family at the cabin. It was a pleasure to host you all. Please come back any time!
Residents of Greensboro, NC since 2007, we made our way there via the midwest, Oklahoma, and Atlanta. We have 3 children and love being just 2 hours from the peaceful High Country.
Why they chose this property
When my wife's mom moved to NC from the western US, she wanted a piece of property in the Appalachians. She purchased this home in 2011 and we have very fond memories from our time there with her. Now, it's been passed on to us.
What makes this property unique
We love the cozy feel of this cabin, with the wood-burning fireplace and 1500+ sq. ft. that make it big enough for a family but small enough to stay connected. The covered back porch, in the woods and with a view of the mountains, is perfect for a cup of coffee on the cool mornings, and is even a great spot to enjoy a rain shower. The neighborhood is quiet but not completely remote, so you can stay in touch while you get away.
