About this property
Rushing Creek w/Mountain Views! Perfect Cabin for Family/Couples Getaways!
Rushing Creek, Mountain Views Make Cabin a Perfect Vacation Getaway.
Enjoy the best of both worlds----the peaks of the Continental Divide and the rushing waters of Brown's Creek. You get spectacular mountain views from our upper and lower decks. Plus, enjoy our creek with firepit seating, patio, picnic table and hammock. Wireless even extends to the creek. Enjoy all from the comfort of a private cozy cabin set on three acres of meadow and aspens, spruce and cottonwoods.
And now we have high-speed internet for streaming entertainment.
For outdoor enthusiasts, we're in hiking/rafting/biking country. We're 1 mile east of the Colorado Trail trailhead, and just 3 miles up creek from the Arkansas River where it has carved out historic Brown's Canyon National Monument.
This well-appointed home has all the amenities. It was furnished with a family in mind, but is equally comfortable for a couples’ getaway. The charming décor is rustic with a touch of retro.
The homey living room has a river-rock fireplace, comfy couch, club chairs with ottomans and an electric recliner. Two six-foot windows face the mountains. The living room also has Roku, DVD player, plenty of books, and a collection of board games and jigsaw puzzles.
The kitchen is fully furnished with two sets of dishes, pots and pans, bakeware, mixer, crock pots, rice cooker, blender, electric griddle and more. The kitchen window above the sink looks onto the creek and aspen. Next to another six-foot window is a pine dining table which seats eight, and comes with placemats and bandana napkins. Right off the kitchen is a full-sized washer and dryer. All linens are furnished, including beach towels for water activities.
The large upstairs master is 20’ x 20’ and has a vaulted ceiling and king-sized bed. The room also has a ceiling fan and a sliding glass door which leads onto a deck with bench-seating and mountain views. The decorative (non-working) fireplace is set with candles for a romantic escape. At the top of the stairs is a full bathroom. Towels are provided of course.
The main floor has a full bath (tub/shower).
The main floor features a wrap-around deck with a gas grill and a patio table with umbrella overlooking the creek. On the mountain side is a bench glider and side table, perfect for morning coffee or a glass of wine as the sun dips behind the Continental Divide. Step off the deck into the aspen shade for the picnic table, fire pit, hammock and Adirondack benches by the creek.
The area borders millions of acres of National Forest wilderness for hiking. The cabin is just minutes from the best rafting in the west, fly fishing, mineral hot springs, trail rides and golf. Visit the nearby ghost town of St. Elmo and feed chipmunks. Rent a jeep or ATVs in Buena Vista or Salida.
Sample both mountain towns of Salida and Buena Vista—the cabin is exactly between these Arkansas River tourist getaways---just a 15 minute drive in either direction. Enjoy the many restaurants, including the Boathouse Cantina and High Side Restaurant, where you can sip a drink and watch kayakers on the Arkansas River. Amicas microbrewery offers wood-fired pizza and salads. Currents restaurant has good food and live music many evenings. Afterwards, stroll along the river and browse the numerous art galleries and shops.
Plan your own getaway, or we can provide you with links to area activities and attractions.

About the host
Hosted by Rick Wolff

We live in the Kansas City area, and enjoy exploring Colorado. In the fall, we hike trails to mountain lakes and waterfalls, and we enjoy watching the aspens turn golden. During the winter and spring break we ski Monarch, relax at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs and return to the cabin for crock pot steak soup. Summers are awesome for white water rafting and enjoying area festivals including FIBArk (First in Boating on the Arkansas), Art Walk, Brewers Rendezvous, Fine Arts Festival, Gold Rush Days and Fourth of July fireworks in Riverside Park.
Why they chose this property
We grew up in a small town, and love returning to Salida and Buena Vista for the community feel. This area has all that a Colorado vacation can offer and it is very affordable. Locals call the Upper Arkansas River Valley the Banana Belt; the geography and weather patterns bring more moderate winters.
What makes this property unique
The cabin lets you get away without being too remote. Enjoy the restful seclusion of our creek. Ready to get active? We're one mile from the Colorado Trail with access to Brown's Creek Falls, and we're 3 miles from beautiful and challenging Brown's Canyon--now a newly protected national monument.
Drive 40 minutes north to historic Twin Lakes and experience a relaxing hike to the 1800s Interlaken Resort. Or a bit further north is the mining town of Leadville; catch the scenic train to 1,000-ft. above the Arkansas River headwaters.
Or turn south and take a day trip and picnic to the Great Sand Dunes National Park, an awesome geological wonder; afterwards, cool off at Zapata Falls. Or on the way home soak in Joyful Journey Hot Springs where you can watch the Sangre de Cristo range turn pink at sunset. Just over the Continental divide is the awe-inspiring Black Canyon of the Gunnison.
