A perfect oasis! Dawn is an incredible host and the animals (dogs, cats, singing frogs) on the property provide a unique charm. Highly recommend for those looking for an atypical lodging experience.

Mahalo so much for your kind review! I’m so happy you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the unique atmosphere here. The dogs, cats, and even the coqui frogs are all part of what makes this little rainforest oasis so special. It means a lot that you embraced the experience and took the time to recommend it. Wishing you safe travels, and I hope to welcome you back to the Big Island someday! Aloha! 🌿🐾

4 nights at Mermaid Layer

We had a great stay! The host does a great job providing everything you need for a very unique experience staying near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The surrounding area is dark with some rough roads, but it is worth it given this excellent stay.

Wonderful stay

It was such a cute little cabin that we stayed in, open to the elements but also felt secluded. We were greeted by two excited puppies and it made the stay feel more like home. Would highly recommend.

Absolutely beautiful!

The property is amazing and Dawn is so sweet. It’s the perfect size space for one or two people and the views were so beautiful. I took a shower while looking into the rainforest.

We enjoyed our stay very much. It is a fun and unique cabin. The only issue was checking in after dark was hard. We hit a rock in the driveway and had a hard time finding the cabin.

Thanks for your stay and review :) it was lovely to host you both! It is very dark on our island in general as we are part of the “dark skies project” since we have Mauna Kea Observatories here. We want low light pollution so since there are not a lot of street lights, I give very detailed directions to get here :) We also have rope lights leading to the cabin. Blue lights for the blue cabin and green lights for the green cabin. This is the best we can do, those wanting more light or a more “normal” hotel experience should definitely stay in Hilo or Kona. We provide a secluded, rainforest stay :)

Absolutely magical!

I cannot say enough about this place! Dawn thought of everything to make this stay wonferful. Gorgeous location in the jungle and a beautiful cabin! Perfect if you want to explore the area and feel close to nature, but dont quite want to do the whole camping thing. My only complaint is that we didnt stay longer! :)

Dawn is awesome and was working hard every time we saw her. She has a beautiful property here and we had a wonderful experience. A whole different world from back home in Indiana. We wanted to steal her awesome cat Mary Jane Its very rural here, a good thing, so get anything you will need before arrival as its a good 20 minute drive to any supplies. Once you hit the sketchy roads your close. All part of the experience and a great one at that!

Thank you so much for this thoughtful review! It was such a pleasure having you both here. I’m so happy you enjoyed the property and got to experience a little slice of our rural Hawaiian life, it really is a whole different world from Indiana 😊 Mary Jane definitely loves the extra attention from guests! Thank you for giving her some love :) I also appreciate you mentioning the drive and the rural roads, it’s all part of the adventure, and I always recommend stocking up before heading out so guests can fully relax once they arrive. I’m so glad you embraced the full experience and had a great time. You’re welcome back anytime 🌺

Hidden Rain Forest Paradise!

Get away from everything and everyone. Dawn’s space is a perfect abode for relaxation and aloha! The nights are filled with the sounds of nature. Dawn is an amazing host and so knowledgeable for all of our questions. Bonus is her sweet doggos that are in for all the pets and kisses. Great amenities, hope to stay again in the future!

Cool property, comfortable stay

Very cool property. Easy to get to, if a 15min drive from the highway. The host provided excellent suggestions for how to make best use of our stay in the area. There could be more lighting in the unit, but everything else was great. Rustic, but comfy.
