We stayed here with our children, ages 2 & 5. We use rental platforms regularly, follow house rules, and have never had an experience like this. The property was not as expected- spiderwebs, a dead cockroach, a used Band-Aid, a stained wall, and a rug that did not appear vacuumed. We had to clean parts of the home ourselves. The most serious issue was the smoke alarm. At 6:30 a.m., went off for no apparent reason & woke our family. The owner wrote it was “malfunctioning,” , and told us to remove it. He did not offer to inspect or replace it. Leaving a family with 2 young children without a functioning alarm was an unacceptable safety risk. The washer worked only if the door was held a certain way, only 2 towels were provided for 4 guests, and the coffee maker didn’t work. We followed house rules (no shoes downtairs) -loaded dishes, took out trash & stripped the beds. Our son had a severe eczema flare and scratched until he bled overnight. I washed his bedding nightly, and the blood on the sheets on last day were left on the floor for cleaners as instructed. After checkout, the host accidentally sent us a message intended for the booking platform claiming it was left in terrible conditions seeking another 150 cleaning fee, and that he did not plan to speak w us. Minutes later, he asked us we “liked about the stay.” We had planned to leave a neutral review because we try to work with owners, but this felt disingenuous. We loved Blowing Rock, but would not stay here again
