About this property
Riverfront Cabin w/ Porch & Firepit - Peaceful Retreat Near Murphy, NC.
Situated on the beautiful Nottely River, Murphy, this cabin is perfect to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
Perfect spot for a family vacation, it will accommodate a family of 6. (the rental agreement stipulates no more than 6 guests) You will be surrounded by nature but close to town, which is 15 min away. you can find supermarkets, restaurants, fast food.
This lovely cabin is located facing the Nottely River and the Nantahala National Forest. Because the cabin is located in a dead-end road, there will be no movement of vehicles, which makes it even quieter.
This cabin has two rooms, a living room with a fireplace, and a kitchen. All of them facing the river.
The cabin has a beautiful porch where you can relax with the sounds of the river, or you can sit by the wood firepit and enjoy some marshmallow.
For those who like a more active vacation, there is canoeing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, boating, horseback riding, hiking trails, mountain biking trails, and ATV trails, all within a few minutes drive.
For the trout fisherman, the Nottley River has a special interest. It is not stocked, but supports quite a population of wild rainbow trout, which is unique to our area. The spawn is in April. Access to the river is limited and there is little to no pressure of over fishing. Significant hatches of small grey caddis (sizes 16-18) occur in March to April and caddis (all day) and baetis mayflies (sundown) hatch all summer. So you can start your day just jumping into the river and catching the best fish of your life.
For those who like the wild life, you could have the lucky opportunity to see some of the native species. Because of the stable climate in the Murphy, NC area, wildlife is abundant along the banks of the Nottley River. Beaver and otter are seen in addition to raccoon, opossum, groundhog, turkey, and deer. A gorgeous selection of birds can be seen throughout the year. Indigo buntings stay all summer along with tiny hummingbirds. Goldfinches can be found all year long and put on a beautiful show. Titmouses, bluebirds, house finches, and wrens are here all year along with chickadees. There are many bright red cardinals, which also happen to be the state bird of North Carolina. There are also two kinds nuthatches. Junkos are a nice addition in the winer as well are the geese and ducks that fly into local lakes. There are red-breasted and pileated woodpeckers, and in May, there are even some migrating cedar waxwings.
The town of Murphy is about 15 minutes away. Murphy, North Carolina, is the county seat of Cherokee County located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. Murphy is an old town with its origin dating back to the 1830s.
Downtown is beautiful with flower and tree lined streets and many historic buildings restored to their original state.
Murphy has restaurants, many unique shops, and other interesting establishments all within walking distance in the heart of town.
Another beautiful place to go is Blue Ridge, Georgia, which is 30 minutes away. Blue Ridge was recognized by Southern Living Magazine as one of the 2022 South’s Best Mountain Towns. Take a ride on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, following the Toccoa River to the town of McCaysville. Sample craft breweries, wineries, surprisingly upscale shops, galleries and restaurants. Hike to a local waterfall on the Appalachian Trail, tube or kayak the Toccoa or go whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River.
Another attraction to go is Tail of the Dragon, which is like an hour and 20 min. from the cabin. The Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap is considered by many to be the best sports car and motorcycle road on the East Coast. Otherwise known as US 129, it's an extremely technical road that poses a challenge to even the most experienced drivers. While you can run the Tail from either direction, most start in Deals Gap, North Carolina. Then, they take the 11- mile journey across the Tennessee state line. After a challenging and enjoyable ride, the Tail of the Dragon ends at Tabcat Creek Bridge in Tennessee.
About 20 min away we have Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino and Hotel. Here you can enjoy 50,000 square-foot casino with over 1,000 slots and 70 table games, a five-outlet Food Market, UltraStar MultiTainment Center.
