Performance may vary based on the number of devices being used. • Note: AT&T cell phone service works well in Bass Harbor, but Verizon and T-Mobile offer only spotty service. If you have Verizon or T-Mobile, you may want to make park and other reservations ahead of time.
***A Note on Cleaning: We follow our routine cleaning between tenants with EPA-registered disinfectants to kill germs on commonly used surfaces such as kitchen counters, appliances, doorknobs, cabinet knobs, light switches, faucets, toilet handles and television remote controls.***

This property was an affordable way to have an enjoyable stay near all the sights of Acadia. The ability to do laundry during our trip was a big plus as well as 4 twin beds for 4 adults with room to spread out. Generally we spent time exploring Acadia and Bass Harbor but having the house allowed a day of relaxation and puzzle assembly for some while others spent more time hiking. Owners were fantastic!! Would stay again.
Enjoyed our time there. Laundry facilities were great. Kitchen facilities were great. Couldn’t get the tv work. No coffee. Liked proximity too seafood restaurant. Great communication with the manager. Easy checkout.

Thanks for letting us know about the coffee. We usually leave a starter pack out, so will check on why that didn’t happen. Not sure what the trouble was with the TV. Next time, definitely reach out as we might have been able to have solved that for you. Thanks for the feedback!
Our family had a great visit to Mt. Desert Island, staying across the street from a wonderful boat cruise and delicious restaurant. The nearby Seal Cove Auto Museum was also a must see. The house was exactly as marketed and perfect for our stay.Thank you!

Thanks for taking the time to review us, and glad you had a terrific day. We will have to check out the Seal Cove auto museum!
The house is older but comfortable, functional, and clean. The kitchen is stocked with plenty of pots and pans and such compared to other VRBO rentals I've stayed at, which is very nice.
The home was superb. My wife and I loved the spaciousness of the kitchen and dining room area. We also truly loved having all the normal things we would use at home (colander, different utensils, alum foil, etc) available. It truly felt like home. My wife especially loved the deck outside the living room for morning coffee or tea with the view of the harbor. As no one else was staying next door she was able to move the deck chairs further down the front lawn for some gorgeous sun and peace. We also loved how dark it was at night with little light pollution to see the stars. The home is close to everything we needed. We truly enjoyed it and would love to come back in the future.

Thanks for this lovely review. Please come see us again sometime!
Wonderful experience staying right on the harbor! We were in the area during the busy 4th of July time and loved visiting Acadia and Bar Harbor. The best part was coming back to our quiet hideaway to rest up for our next day of exploring. There was an issue with our heat that was taken care of immediately. HIGHLY recommend this spot--oh, and be sure to check out Echo Lake, which is super close.
Awsome place in the wonderful village of Bass Harbor
Our family enjoyed spending our vacation in Bass Harbor, hiking, fishing, swimming, eating lobster rolls... in Acadia National Park. This house is great to visit the park!

Thank you so much Pauline. I’m glad you had a great stay with us and Maine!
It was a very clean and lovely house with plenty of space and a great view! If I were coming back to this area again, I would absolutely stay here again. Very friendly and well-prepared hosts who had a plethora of things you could do on the island written out for you
located on the "quiet" side of the island, the proximity to the cove, lighthouse, sunrise view points, echo lake and a myriad of hiking trails made this a wonderful place to stay.

Thanks for your gracious review of the house. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay!
Our family absolutely loved our visit at this home! We loved how quiet the little harbor area was, despite how busy the island was for the 4th of July holiday, and the quaint old home gave great authentic Maine vibes. Host information was helpful, and they were attentive when we needed to contact them.
This place was perfect for our two nights stay near Acadia. It’s about a 35 minute drive during the busiest week of the year. Our favorite restaurant was Thurston’s lobster pound across the harbor. And we really enjoyed a nature cruise around the corner with bassharborcruises.com

Thanks for reviewing us! We have taken a lot of the nature cruises, and that is far away the best one. I’m glad you enjoyed your time in Bass Harbor!
We had a wonderful time. The location was just what we needed to have access to Acadia national Park. The area is beautiful and so many outdoor activities. Thanks so much for letting us stay.

It was in the 50s when we got in but the thermostat downstairs was pulled out of the wall. Without heat, we were directed to the cellar area in the adjoining unit to turn on the main boiler and open windows to control the temp. With all the windows open, the house was almost 90 degrees the remainder of the night. The choice was too cold or too hot, so we were exhausted the next day at the park. Total bummer.

Charlene, again, my apologies about the thermostat snafu on your first night. As I mentioned, we are in the process of upgrading to smart thermostats, but hit a glitch with that one. Glad we were able to install the temporary thermostat for the remainder of your stay so that your group could be comfortable. Please know that if you were to rent with us again, the thermostats will be fully functioning. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
It was comfortable and the area was just perfect! Super close to the light house and the Seawall picnic area where we went to stargaze. We watched the sunset 2 mins away from the house as well. Honestly perfect for what we needed!

About the host
Hosted by Bobbie Turner
My family has been coming to Mount Desert Island (MDI) since 1991. We love the character of Bass Harbor village--the slower pace of life here, the sound of the bell buoys on the water, and the unique beauty and history of MDI. There really is no place in the world like it!
As my parents have gotten older, the next generation has stepped in to manage our summer vacation home for visitors. Our goal for each of you is to allow you to experience the simple beauty of the island and to fall in love with it, just as we have.
Our house is divided by an interior wall into two separate homes: Harbor View Cottage in the front (https://www.vrbo.com/1565813) and Bass Harbor Hideaway in the back (this listing). Harbor View Cottage is larger, more updated, and offers a picturesque view of Bass Harbor from the living room bay window. Bass Harbor Hideaway is less updated, more rustic, and offers a great value for this prime island location.
Our family also owns a ski townhouse rental property in Breckenridge, Colorado: "BreckenDen" (https://www.vrbo.com/892238). Please let us know if we can answer any questions about our rental properties. We'd love to have you stay with us!
Why they chose this property
Bass Harbor is a active fishing/lobstering village with a mix of vacationers and year-round residents. We love that our side of the island---known as the 'Quiet Side'---is not busy or commercial, but has held onto the original character of the area. Stay with us and you'll get a true sense of the beauty and slower pace of coastal Maine (away from tour buses and traffic!).
Because our home is right across the street from the harbor, visitors enjoy cool sea breezes and the sounds of bell buoys and fog horns--all things you'd miss with rentals that aren't at the water's edge.
What makes this property unique
Bass Harbor Hideaway is functional, clean and comfortable, but has not been updated. For this reason, we are able to offer it at a price that is significantly lower than other area rentals. It's a great value for the area!
Bass Harbor Hideaway is across the street and up the hill from Bass Harbor, a scenic marina filled with lobster boats. It is also walking distance to the Seafood Ketch restaurant. Step back in time as the fog rolls in, imagining the area's nautical history, which includes the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse and surrounding seafaring community.
