About the host
Hosted by Jane Grupe
Our parents had this duplex built in 1963, when we moved from West Newport to the San Fernando Valley. They used one unit for family and friends, while renting out the other unit. When our mom left us the house in 2021, my brother, sister, and I decided to redo the upstairs unit (taking longer than we expected) and rent it out monthly. We are finally ready!
My husband and I like to travel and discovered staying in homes rather than hotels. We love this place want to share it with you. We understand sometimes you like privacy and other times want to have interaction with the host and neighbors, so we will take it from you to let us know what you want. Our brother lives in Hoodsport, Washington with his family. My sister and I are used to driving between our homes and Newport since we did so on a daily basis during COVID to visit our 90+year-old mom.

Why they chose this property
The Balboa Peninsula makes you feel like you're on vacation, even when you have work to do! We have wonderful long-term neighbors who watch out for each other. It's a very walkable community with the ferry to Balboa Island and many shops and restaurants nearby. A drugstore and library are also a short walk away. There are vacationers walking by the house on their way to the beach or to a fishing expedition. You can easily walk or ride a bike to the Wedge, the Balboa Pier, and the Newport Pier.
What makes this property unique
There are wonderful homes all around our neighborhood, but few have the fantastic views we have from the rooftop deck. Our photos show the view, but there's nothing like seeing it in person to experience the amazing sky as well as water, mountain, and twinkling lights at night.
