About this property

3 King Beds * Game Room * Heated Garage * Trails

Every morning at Mountain View Lodge, you'll wake up before your alarm because the Black Hills sunrise coming through those floor-to-ceiling windows is simply too good to sleep through. You'll brew your coffee, step onto the deck, and watch the light change across the pines while a family of whitetails grazes in the yard below. This is what you came for — and you haven't even hit the game room yet.
Mountain View Lodge is a 2,450 sq ft Black Hills retreat built for people who want it all: stunning mountain views AND a 60-game arcade, king beds AND a heated garage, wildlife out front AND Deadwood 15 minutes away. It's the rare place where the adults actually compete for who gets to play the arcade first.
THE SPACE
The main floor opens wide — living, dining, and kitchen all connected by natural light from oversized windows framing the surrounding forest. The kitchen is fully stocked for real cooking (not just reheating), with all the appliances, tools, and counter space a group needs. The dining table seats four, and the bar adds five more — plenty of room for the whole crew for meals, card games, or both.
Two king bedrooms, a third bedroom with a king and queen, and a lofted living area with sleeper sofa sleep up to 10 guests comfortably. The bedroom with the king and queen is perfect for kids or as a dedicated space to spread out your clothes and gear. Every bedroom has blackout shades and comfortable mattresses that guests consistently mention in reviews. Two well-appointed bathrooms serve the house, and a Pack 'n Play is available for little ones.
THE GAME ROOM
This is what sets Mountain View Lodge apart. A 60-game arcade cabinet (classics + fan favorites), air hockey, foosball, ring swing — the game room is where evenings happen. Kids disappear in here while adults claim the recliners. No one ever complains about a full day.
THE GARAGE
A rare find: a heated two-car garage with room for a crew cab pickup. Your vehicles are warm when you leave for Terry Peak in the morning. Your gear is dry. Your trip is smoother. It matters more than you'd expect in a Black Hills winter. Driveway parking for two more vehicles, plus street parking for RVs and trailers.
THE OUTDOORS
One deck with mountain views, a private backyard, outdoor furniture, and a gas grill for evenings. Wildlife shows up most mornings — deer and turkeys are regulars. The Mickelson Trail is 0.8 miles away. ATV trails are minutes out. Terry Peak Ski Area is 5.3 miles. Spearfish Canyon is 21 miles.
LOCATION
Lead, South Dakota puts you at the center of the Northern Black Hills. Downtown Deadwood is 4 miles (dining, history, casinos). Downtown Lead is minutes away. Mount Rushmore is 50 miles. You won't run out of things to do — but the lodge is good enough that you won't feel obligated to leave either. Two dogs (≤50 lbs) welcome with a deposit. OwnerRez rental agreement required at booking — it's quick and painless.

We're Jim and Julie — we've been ranching together since we got married and have lived in the country our whole lives. Grew up in rural Nebraska, raised two boys who love hunting and fishing, and about eight years ago added a brewery to the mix. It sits out in the pasture with horses, cows and sheep grazing right next to it. That's just kind of how we do things.
The Black Hills drew us in the same way rural places always do. Good land, good people, and enough going on that you never run out of things to do.
We're not a big operation. It's just us, and we take care of our properties like they're our own. If something comes up during your stay, you'll hear from us directly. We're genuinely excited to share the Black Hills with your family and hope it becomes a place you come back to.

Why they chose this property

Here's what makes Mountain View Lodge the right choice:
The location is hard to beat. You're tucked into the Black Hills with deer and turkeys showing up most mornings, but downtown Lead is five minutes away and Deadwood is fifteen. You get the quiet without the tradeoff.
Inside, there's room for everyone. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a game room with a 60-game arcade, foosball, and air hockey keep ten guests comfortable and entertained. The kitchen is fully equipped for real cooking, the deck has outdoor seating and a propane grill, and high-speed WiFi keeps everyone connected.
The Mickelson Trail is less than a mile away. Terry Peak Ski Area is five miles. Spearfish Canyon is a short drive. There's no shortage of things to do — and the lodge is the kind of place where staying in feels just as good as heading out.

Two dogs (under 40 lbs) welcome with a $125 pet fee. Non-smoking property.

What makes this property unique

We privately manage this property ourselves, which means you'll actually be able to reach us. You'll have Jim's cell number from the start — text anytime with questions before or during your stay and we'll get back to you.
Before you arrive we'll send you a detailed online guidebook covering everything about the home plus a local guide to the area — places to eat, things to do, and the spots the locals actually go.
Whether it's a romantic getaway, a girls' trip, or a family vacation, we want your time here to be worth the trip. That's the whole point.
