Rustic 125yr old cottage. This cozy cottage is the perfect family get away. The kitchen is well equipped and linens and towels are provided. The home has 5 bedrooms & 1 bath. There is a queen bed & private balcony on the upstairs master and a queen bed right off the living room in the downstairs master. There is a gas fireplace in the living room for chilly evenings, a flat screen TV with a dvd player, there are also many games, books and cards for your enjoyment. It has a large yard with lots of room for little ones to play. Look out of your glass enclosed porch with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee and watch the ferries shuffle people to Mackinac Island. There is a public boat launch waiting for your boat 300 yards away. The cottage is in a perfect location for access to all the interesting points in the U.P. Only a few blocks I-75 or US-2 and only about a mile from the Mackinac Bridge. You can easily make day trips to Mackinac Island, Tahquamenon Falls, Pictured Rocks or Sault Ste. Marie, but don’t forget about all the happening in St. Ignace itself. Fireworks every Saturday (in season), movies in the park, music on the Bay, wine tasting in town, and so much more.

Great quiet neighborhood. Great place to stay. Close enough but far enough away from tourist traps ! Mystery spot is a must see when there ! It was cute & family friendly
This property is lovely. It has all of the old charm of a country cottage and the most amazing location. It is very close to downtown St. Ignace and the ferry docks. The view from the upstairs patio was amazing.

Great location in St Ignace. Great price for the number of bedrooms. Bathroom and kitchen could have cleaner and the cottage structure was very quirky.
Stayed 2 nights on our first trip to the upper peninsula with my wife and son. Nice house as advertised with everything needed to be more than comfortable

Convenient Area
Very close to St Ignace and Bridge. So the area was great! House not so great.
We had a great stay! The house is close to everything. You can see the water and island from the house! The beach is only a couple minutes down the road and so are all the shops and places to see or go! We will be back most likely!!! Thank you!
We booked the house for 5 nights and had a great time. It is centrally located so was near the ferry’s, restaurants, shops, etc. There is a grocery store right up the street and a family dollar. The house is old but has a lot of character with a great sun room and deck off an upstairs bedroom. Mark, the owner, is great to work with and very responsive when needed. We will be back next time we make it back to Michigan!

Quirky with a great location
Five adults travelling with two devices each could not find enough outlets to charge everything without negotiation. Not all the bedrooms had lighting. Those with lighting didn't have enough bulbs. We fixed that, because, we were seniors, light is imperative. None of the floors were level. If you are unsteady on your feet, this place is not for you. Remember we were five seniors. We loved the location and laughed about all the quirks, because we felt the rent was fair for the level of accommodation offered.
House is a shack. Falling down around you. From the floor leaning to the cracks in the walls and ceilings from the foundation giving away. None of the doors close bc they are not square. 1 inch gaps in each door from left to right. The whole house is leaning. Hope this help the next group.
3 generations taking my parents to cross off one of the few remaining states off the list of ones they’ve not been to. The property manager was so kind and considerate 🥰 he checked in on us to make sure all was well. The home was huge for being built when it was! We had plenty room to roam around. Very well appointed also. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals when we decided to.
You could really feel the history and the love that went into this house ❤️. Thank you Mark for making my parents last road trip a memorable one!
The property was easy to find, affordable, and in a good location. The house is old so it definitely has its crooked quirks, but functions well for the purpose. It was well stocked with bedding, towels, and essentials. We were pleasantly surprised with the showers water pressure and no hard water! The yard could use some upkeep from weeds and dog poo. The owner offered the cleaning fee back if we were able to do the cleaning as the typical crew was not available. We didn’t have a problem doing that for a $100 refund, which was quickly refunded through Vrbo. Overall we were happy with the accommodations.
The property is quite old as advertised. The condition of the property isn’t good. Slanting floors, musty odors, etc. the refrigerator wasn’t clean. It had spills and hair in side.

A Work in Progress
Pros:
Nice 2nd floor deck; washer and dryer available; plenty of room, convenient to attractions
Cons:
Still a work in progress--unlevel floors, doors, that need work, unsightly ceilings, noisy location, limited TV package (no ESPN, CNN, FOX news), needs some paint and cleaning. No A/C

Not as it Seems
People pay a mortgage payment or more for vacay. They want a place that's better than home, this is not. True, this is a 125yr old home, but one that has a serious foundation problem. There's things the owners could do to make better, like caulk, shim, fix the roof and ceilings. No AC, but only one ceiling fan, have stationary fans, but not enough. Soot on walls from furnace. It could use freshening up. Location is right by municipal building, trucks start out at 5:30am. So if you think you're going to sleep in, think again. True, it is a good center for getting around the area. Neighbors dog runs loose and craps in the yard. We made the best of it. I wouldn't suggest for people who aren't stable standing or walking, floors are very sloped because of foundation.
This shack was nearly crumbling from the foundation to the roof. It had none of the rustic charm advertized. It was rusty, not rustic. It smelled of natural gas and mold. The furniture and beds were probably claimed from dumpster diving. Many of the lights had no bulbs or didn't work at all. We stayed one night and requested some tefund from the host for the other four nights. He refused to reply to our texts.
When we first arrived and opened the back door we saw the ceiling tiles coming down and it just got worse. The house had not been cleaned so we notified Mark and he had forgotten we were coming. Had to wait for cleaning people to come and then 2 hours for them to get beds changed, etc. Mark did apologize . Front door and balcony door upstairs would not open found that very unsafe, food left in frig and dust and spills on the shelves in frig. Some of the plug outlets were black. I feel that the pictures really misrepresented where we stayed

Needs Major Work Done!!
We had reserved this place for four nights on our vacation to St. Ignace and it was so gross we ended up getting a hotel...it was dirty, creepy, and it smelled awful...the oven had burnt cheese on the rack and bottom of oven from previous renters, the bathtub was black from dirt, no a/c so had to leave windows opened and large very loud commercial trucks started going by at 4:30 am, dishes were dirty, electrical wall sockets hanging out of wall, floors slope bad, furniture was very uncomfortable, it smelled like mildew and mold. Needs major repair or as my son says needs to be condemned. Sorry for leaving such a bad review but I want others to know its bad!! Save your money and go to the Breakers Resorts just down the road...plus they have free breakfast!!
Let me say, I wish I could upload some new photos on here. The ceilings were black from the heat, the bathroom tub was so sketchy, the room with twin beds felt like the floor joist had given in, there were huge cracks and holes in the walls upstairs. The kitchen drawer fell off in my hand when I went to get a spoon. There was a huge crack at the back door where old air kept blowing in and the floor was rotten where I assume rain or snow got in. I could go on and on. We have rented numerous times through VRBO. This is the only time we got burnt. We also couldn’t take the trash out because there was no trash can outside. We waited to place it outside when we checked out. We couldn’t earlier because the neighbors giant dog came running up and barking when we would pull up. Just keep looking.

Comfortable.
The initial picture as shown here indicates the best beach in the world - sloping and great for the little ones.
Led me to believe this was a part of the view we saw from the cottage.
It is not. There are very small beaches near and most of them quite rocky. You need to leave your shoes on to even walk into the water.
The house does have very uneven floors but after the first day we didn't even notice.
The best part of the vacation were the people in the town. They are incredibly friendly. We enjoyed the small town immensely.
The Indian Museum and exhibition was amazing.
Since the beach was a large part of what we wanted to do; and in this case required planning, we would pick another location next time..
However, we had a very relaxing, good time. Maybe not what we had thought; but maybe what we needed.
Called Mark with a question about wifi (there is none), and he was very quick to respond.
The house was clean and comfortable and the kids did enjoy the yard.
Michigan is beautiful and welcoming.
Seeing a 4.1 rating I did not feel it was necessary to check the reviews. Boy was I wrong! This was my first and likely last time I will be using any vacation rental sites to book a vacation because apparently the owners of the property submit photos of any kind and can get away with it. We took 17 photos which have all been submitted to VRBO for review and I filed a complaint with St. Ignace code enforcement office regarding this property. This house is literally splitting in two! After messaging the owner and stating I’ve seen his stance when others have asked for a refund but I was at least going to try…I was given a photo of a text message exchange from someone who supposedly stayed there the week before us who seemed happy with their stay. I can only assume that they were happy with their stay meant the location itself and not the house. He blamed me for not reading the reviews and didn’t even acknowledge my request for a refund. We spent 40 minutes in this property, the majority of which was searching for an actual place to feel safe and comfortable in for our weeks vacation. All communication stopped with the owner after he said he was frustrated because someone else could have rented the house and enjoyed themselves and I stated I wished he had scammed someone else out of the money and not us. Please read the reviews and do not give this owner another dime!
Lori & I have been coming up to St. Ignace for twenty two years. Being professional photographers we loved the scenery and fell in love with the people. After ten years of looking for our own little piece of heaven we stumbled upon The Love Shack.
Why they chose this property
The location of the love shack is perfect. When we bought the home it had been vacant for many years. Noone saw what we saw. We have redone almost everything but as we all know the work of an older home keeps us jumping. It is close to town and all the happenings. The views are wonderful and with 4 children in our family the playground is right down the street.
