About this property

Stunning Mountain Home for the Naturalist, Athlete, & Families

Lake Co. STR License: 2023-104
Unwind at the foot of Mt. Elbert, the highest peak in Colorado, in this modern log home. A perfect place to set up your remote office (with high-speed Wi-Fi), or unplug and connect with friends and outdoor activities. This large cabin is built with sweeping views and has a wrap-around deck, a great room, and a large, fully-equipped kitchen.

Located above the town of Twin Lakes with mountain and lake views, on secluded sunny acreage. Close to hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing trails, with fishing, boating, paddle boarding, and kayaking on the lake. Within short driving distance to ski areas (Ski Cooper, Copper Mountain, Monarch), rafting in Buena Vista, Mt. Princeton Hot Springs, and many horseback riding outfitters. A 40-minute drive to Aspen in the Summer months where you can explore galleries and restaurants.

Take an unforgettable hike around the lake to discover Interlaken, one of the most popular resorts in the 1890s. Interlaken's Dexter cabin is open to the public and offers the chance to explore life at the turn of the century.

This spacious and modern log home is a wonderful oasis for families, book clubs, athletes, trainers, or small groups. The first floor has a large, open great room with a large table, well suited for entertaining with a fully equipped kitchen and adjacent laundry room. A primary bedroom with a king bed and bath is located on the first floor (great for Grandparents).

The second floor has three family-style bedrooms and a large bathroom, with two sinks, a tub/shower, and a toilet. The Mountain View Room has a king bed with high ceilings and sweeping mountain and lake views. The Yellow Room includes a king-size bed and bunk beds with high ceilings and views of Mt Elbert. The Blue Room includes a queen bed and a double bed, and a secret “kids only” playroom that is fully equipped with a kids-style play kitchen and table. The third floor has a library-style ladder that heads up to a cupola with a 360-degree panoramic view of the collegiate range, great for reading, wildlife viewing, office space, or a panoramic star gazing, sleeping loft for older kids (small fold-down couch single).

The cabin has a large deck and provides warm and sunny outdoor reading and sketching nooks with panoramic views. This cabin sleeps up to 8 adults, great for multiple families and grandparents.

Our guests agree this cabin is ideal for groups with multiple interests! Enjoy easy access to family hiking and mountain-biking trails and serious hikers are close to La Plata Peak and Mt. Elbert trailhead. The cabin is located at the midway point of the famous Leadville 100 Ultra Run and you are ¼ mile from the famous Colorado Trail. The lake is a short walk through town and has nice sandy beaches, high mountain lake fishing, and beautiful open views. Fly-fishing is popular on the Arkansas River and the best river rafting in Colorado is located in Buena Vista and Salida (30 miles away). Historic Leadville is 28 miles away. In the winter, enjoy snowshoeing, and alpine and cross-country skiing. Cross-country skiing trails are close by in the winter up Independence Pass or South Fork with groomed flat trails in Leadville. Snowshoeing for multiple abilities is available out the door. A fun (but safe) sledding hill is located right outside the cabin. Downhill skiing at Ski Cooper (45 min), Copper Mountain (1 hr), Monarch (1 hr), or Vail (66 miles).

Perfect mountain home with epic views!
We loved our stay here! Everything was as described or better and the hosts were extremely helpful. 4 nights went by way too quick but we’d definitely return again. The little community of Twin Lakes was the exact, non-ski resort pace we were seeking. This was the best stocked kitchen of any VRBO I’ve rented and there’s an awesome puzzle selection. Perfectly located to access great hikes from Independence Pass, rafting in Buena Vista, walk to the the lakes or just roam around the property.

Great place with incredible views
We had 8 adults stay very comfortably at this very large cabin. The bedrooms are all large and the kitchen/living room was plenty large for our entire group to spend time together. The views from the deck (and pretty much every window) are the reason we went to Colorado. Brian was very easy to communicate with and I will try to book this cabin again if we return to the area

Our family has been vacationing at Twin Lakes for generations. Our Log Home was remodeled to accommodate our large extended family. We love this area and the outdoor adventure opportunity it provides!

Why they chose this property

We have traveled all over the world and I believe Twin Lakes is one of the most beautiful spots. This cabin offers outdoor winter activities (skiing, x-country skiing, snowshoeing) along with Summer activities (hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, climbing, trail running, mountain biking. rafting, paddleboarding, kayaking, fly fishing, hot springs) and easy access to Aspen (Summer only) and Vail valleys.

What makes this property unique

Spectacular hiking, long walks, open views. Our family loves to take a long hike in the morning and spend late afternoons with a picnic basket, books and sketchbooks reading on the sandy beach at Twin Lakes. The kids canoe, raft, swim, and fish in the lake - although the lake, fed by snowmelt, is pretty cold year round. Close to skiing (Ski Cooper(40 min), Monarch Mountain (1hr), Copper Mountain (1hr), rafting guides with easy to thrilling trips in Buena Vista, Mt. Princeton Hot Springs (multiple temperature pools, waterslide, spa), and horseback riding nearby too.
