About this property
Victorian home, family and pet friendly close to beaches, harbor, restaurants
Located in the East Gloucester Square Historic District this charming Victorian is in ideal proximity to all the beauty of Gloucester. Three Bedroom 1 bath home with interesting design features. It has a fully fenced in yard . Off street parking
In walking distance to Smith Cove ( at the end of Plum St), Niles Beach (1.0 mile), Good Harbor Beach (1.8 miles), Cripple Cove (0.5 miles) and Rocky Neck Beach (0.6 miles and dog friendly)
Captain J.E. Wennerberg, inventor and commander of the water boat “Wanderer,” was a familiar figure in Gloucester Harbor from the 1870’s until his death in 1914. During his tenure in Gloucester, he resided at 19 Plum St., as did members of his family after him. Nautical details in the house are meant to remind you of the Captain and his contribution to Gloucester’s fishing
history. While charmingly historic, this quaint house also has many desirable features, including
wifi, eat-in kitchen, and off-street parking for two vehicles. The expansive side yard has
beautiful gardens and is fenced for pets who can access it through a pet door off the kitchen.
Amenities outside include a deck with furniture and BBQ grill, a firepit with further seating, a
private and idyllic outdoor shower area, and a bonus bungalow outbuilding which can function
as extended hangout space. The yard is a veritable bird sanctuary – with seasonal views of the Gloucester Harbor! Close proximity to so many Gloucester businesses and attractions makes it truly special. Just steps away at the end of Plum Street are the laundromat and Duckworth’s Bistro, where you can get gourmet coffees, pastries, and delicious sandwiches for your day’s outings. Also here are Pirate’s Lane, where you can look over bucolic Smith’s Cove, and Beacon Marine Yacht Basin and sport fishing dock. It is a five-minute walk to The Lobster Seafood Co-op for fresh-off-the-boat seafood and views of a real working harbor. Also very close is Rocky Neck, the oldest working art colony in America. You can visit Rocky Neck Beach for panoramic views of the breakwater and Gloucester’s Outer Harbor, and will want to dine at The Rudder or The Studio, both excellent, or sip wine at the Salted Cod artists’ co-op wine bar. From Plum Street, it is only two miles to the heart of downtown Gloucester, where there is so much to see and do. Check out Castaways Vintage for coffee, small eats, cool clothing, and a hometown vibe. And be sure to visit Design of Mine, a clothing boutique owned by your host. Please ask for further recommendations or directions should you desire them. You will love Gloucester and Captain Wennerberg’s Place!
