Historic Beach House Built by FDR's Cousin | 5 BR 4 BA | Heated Private Pool
Step back in time to a charming home built in 1954 by engineer Nicholas G. Roosevelt, a cousin of FDR. Originally located on the adjacent lot, this Isle of Palms beach house was later moved and elevated to incorporate a garage underneath. After Nicholas and his wife Emily passed, they bequeathed the property to their niece, Emily Whaley, a renowned gardener and writer from Charleston. You can still visit her famous garden on Church Street in downtown Charleston. The hardwood floors in the home are original to its construction.
Situated across from beach access with an ocean view, this home features a beautiful screened porch, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee while listening to the waves. The residence includes 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, featuring the Sand Crab Suite—a nod to the original name of the property—complete with a small kitchenette, a bedroom, and a full bathroom.
The home has recently been updated with renovated bathrooms, new appliances, and fresh paint both inside and out. A heated saltwater pool at the back of the home leads directly to the beach entrance across the street. This tranquil area of Isle of Palms is quiet and family-oriented, just a short hop to Sullivan’s Island. The Boat House, within walking distance, is an excellent spot for a drink and watching the sunset.
Amenities include standard kitchen appliances (fridge, freezer with icemaker, oven/stove, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, blender, wine cooler, etc.), an additional fridge in the garage, and a full-size washer/dryer set.
Please note: No smoking, no pets, and no parties or large gatherings are allowed. All guests must sign a rental contract before staying in the home. There are Ring cameras at the front of the house for added security.
Heated Pool - No Additional Charge - In the event of unseasonably freezing or cold weather, it is possible that pool heating may not be operable or available, as heating temperatures typically only reach 15 - 20 degrees higher than current outside temps and may still not be warm enough to enjoy.
Beach Gear - Guest reservations of 3 to 21 nights receive a valuable credit to use towards beach gear rentals during your stay! You may use your credit for bicycles, beach chairs, umbrellas, beach carts, kayaks, stand-up paddle-boards, and more – the choice is yours! Bonus for booking your vacation with IOP Escapes!
Linens / Toiletries - All bed linens, kitchen towels and bath towels are provided for your convenience. Also included is a "starter set" of toiletries such as toilet paper, bath & dish soaps, shampoo & conditioner, paper towels, etc. but please keep in mind you will most likely need to purchase these items after your initial arrival.
Parking - A maximum of 6 vehicles can be parked at this property.

✧ You acknowledge that you may be asked to provide a copy of your official government-issued photo ID, confirm your contact information, provide a valid credit card with a name that matches your ID, and pass through our verification portal and, in some instances, complete a criminal background check. The information is collected for screening and verification only and is not stored or used for any other purposes.
✧ You understand that your check-in instructions might be withheld until you have successfully completed the rental agreement and provided a copy of valid ID.
✧ Any guest who confirms a reservation will be responsible for damages in an amount outlined in the rental agreement. An authorization hold in the amount of $750.00 will be placed on your credit card. It will be removed once you check-out and if nothing is damaged.

1) Local guest reservation requests are subject to further review and questions. Please provide full name, # of guests, and reason for booking.
2) Reservations should include the correct number of guests staying. Please ask the host for permission to bring visitors over to the property.
3) Isle of Palms Noise Ordinance must be followed. Any violations of the noise ordinance are cause for immediate removal.
4) Please be courteous and respectful of the other neighboring residents and guests. Any behavior that results in a complaint by a neighbor, building resident, or HOA is considered violation of this rule.
5) If you have any issues during your stay, please notify us immediately. At check-out please leave the place as you found it upon your arrival. Any costs to repair or replace an item, fixture, or furnishing found damaged after your stay must be compensated by you. All damage and replacement costs include a labor charge.
6) Smoking, Vaping, and Parties of any kind are strictly forbidden.
7) Guests agree to follow the cancellation policy at the time of booking, and agree to any cancellation fee that may apply in the event of a cancellation. Guests agree there are no exceptions to the policy including illness, travel restrictions due to weather, and reasons related to Covid-19. Travel Insurance is offered to cover losses for cancellations during full penalty cancellation period.
10) Guests should inspect the property upon checking-in and notify Management of any issues, damage, missing amenities, or unsatisfactory conditions. Should there be an issue, guests will allow a reasonable amount of time during business hours for Management to address or provide a solution for any reported issues, or unsatisfactory conditions.
11)Pet fee required for all pet friendly rentals
* It is the guests' responsibility to ensure they have all their belongings before checking out. If guests would like an item shipped to them, there is a minimum of $25 shipping and handling fee plus the cost of shipping. We will hold items for 1 week if guests would like to coordinate a pickup of an item.
