This historic Fort Screven structure has been fully restored and thoughtfully renovated. Redesigned by Layla Palmer of The Lettered Cottage, a recipient of the Tybee Island Historic Society Preservation Award, this remarkable home blends timeless character with fresh coastal style. Originally built as one of three Mess Halls for the fort, it has lived many lives—including a memorable chapter as a boarding house.
This beautiful home offers 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, open living, dining, and kitchen areas, and a large screened in porch. Enlisted Men's Mess Hall also features tall ceilings with ceiling fans, extra large windows in every room, hardwood floors and did we mention wrap around screened porch.
Located in the historic north end of Tybee, where the beach is close by and the streets are very walkable, this is part of a duplex with Screened Inn on the other side with its own private entrance. These2 homes can be rented individually or together.
The outdoors area of this property features a fenced-in yard with beautiful landscaping, including large palms and live oaks.
Two blocks from the North Beach, 5 minutes from the Tybee Light House Station and the North Beach Bar and Grill restaurant. The Jaycee Park (ball fields, walking path, playground) is located directly behind the home.

Complimentary off-street parking for 2 cars. Parking is parallel to the white picket fence on the grass or you can pull into the right side of the picket fence.

House was so cute with amazing history. The hosts could not have been more accommodating. They even turned the porch lights on for us when they learned we would arrive after dark! Highly recommend Mermaid Cottages and this house. We walked everywhere and others staying in the neighborhood were all friendly and respectful. The fenced in yard was perfect for our dogs. Would definitely stay here again.

Yes, loving because we do love it! And the management gives us everything we could possibly want or need! Gracious people always!

Perfect Spot for a Tybee Vacation

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Enlisted Men's Mess Hall! The location was very convenient to the beach and to other things on Tybee Island as well. The cottage was cute and well appointed and the property owners were available as needed. We would definitely stay here again!

Gorgeous cottage

We absolutely loved our stay at the Mess Hall Cottage. The kitchen was well equipped, the porch was a lovely place to spend our non-beach time and the beach was just a short walk away. We would definitely stay here again.

We loved the cottage and the details done toward historic preservation. Mornings and evenings on the screened in porch were so peaceful. The fenced in yard for the dog was great. Convenient access to the beach.
