We had a great stay! Hosts were, friendly and accommodating making everything easy and comfortable including a late check-in due to delayed flight. Conveniently located close to Asheville attractions and Warren Wilson College where we were visiting our daughter. Highly recommend!

Great little place! Cute and cozy, good location and lovely communicative owners. Would have been a five star except for the crickets and spiders that came into the place every evening. But this is due to it being fall and a basement apartment. Just more than we could handle.

Great Rental

This rental is cozy and well equipped. It has a lovely outdoor seating area and is surrounded by a wonderful garden in a quiet neighborhood. There is easy access by car to downtown Asheville and the surrounding area.

Mother/Daughter trip

The booking process was very easy, informative and prompt. The location was perfect for us to do some hiking, shopping and dinning. We were able to walk to the downtown area or easily drive and park in one of the decks. Our hosts were very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. The house and apartment is in a quiet secluded neighborhood but close to everything. Very satisfied with our choice and would definitely recommend.

Lovely apartment

We loved our stat here. The basement apartment with its own entrance was private, adorably decorated, spotless and cozy. It made my husband and I dream of building a little cabin of our own. The sleeping pod creates a fun, separate sleeping space - add that to a full kitchen, laundry and convenient location and it is a winner!!

The hosts were super friendly and very easy to talk with. The spay was exactly what my friends and I were looking for. Quiet neighborhood that was super convenient to downtown. I slept in the pod and I had a great sleep each night. Already missing that pod.... next time in Asheville, I'll definitely try and stay here again!

Autumn Adventures

The GrayScott was a lovely home base to enjoy an incredible Fall week. We cooked-in for daily brunch and a couple of evenings. The space was very comfortable and welcoming. AVL exceeded our expectations. We came to see a band at the Orange Peel & celebrate milestone b-days. We enjoyed the LEAF festival and the Hammam at the AVL Salt Cave was amazing. We had an incredible dinner at The Bistro & thoroughly enjoyed the Gardens & Antler Hill at The Biltmore. We had fun at Sat night karaoke at LaZoomRoom & the LaZoom comedy tour was a great way to explore AVL. Other fun finds: Craggy Mtn Train Line, Botanical Gardens, the Arboretum, the Pinball Museum, Blue Ridge Mtn Prkwy drive to Craggy Visitor Center, coffee at Double D’s & Summit Coffee Co. (Grove Arcade), cocktails at Capella on 9 (rooftop), and dinners at the Exchange, Laughing Seed & Early Girl.

Meka has been in Asheville since 2004. He is a full-time massage therapist, working from home and at the Asheville Salt Cave downtown.
Since 1995, he has also made his livelihood consulting and teaching Natural Building systems such as Adobe, Cob, and Straw-bale, locally and around the world...with a specialty in wood fired ovens and Rumford fireplaces.
David is a Sales Manager for a privately owned Sales Group in the Pet Industry.
We both enjoy puttering around the property (Meka was a Permaculture landscape gardener for 7 years; David loves to tend the gardens and maintain the home and grounds. GrayScott is our home and we hope you will love it too.

Why they chose this property

On our first walk through of this 1942 house, we entered through the basement (what is now the Garden Suite), and were immediately enchanted by the 15" thick stone foundation walls and fireplace. We were looking for a fixer upper with good bones and discovered good bones AND teeth!
We did all the demolition and were hands on in the renovation process from start to finish. The house has all new electrical, plumbing, and central air system.

What makes this property unique

The apartment is a one of a kind labor of love. Meka spent 5 months doing the renovation, adding unique features and special touches to the space. We strive to make sure it is clean and inviting for all who stay with us...even providing fresh ground local coffee and half & half, shower and hand soaps, and tissues/toilet paper.
As avid outdoor people, we hand built the stone wall running the length of the house and are continually creating new planting beds for expanding the garden. Our goal is to create a lush food forest for visitors to enjoy. So far, the edible gardens have fruit & nut trees, berries, native and medicinal herbs, shitake mushroom logs, and seasonal vegetables. Our newest additions are a flock of chickens with a cute chicken coop/garden shed made of repurposed materials.
