Experience the Timeless Elegance of Nile Lodge in Galway
Welcome to Nile Lodge, the most exclusive private rental house in the City of Galway. Built in 1807, this landmark Georgian residence offers an exceptionally high standard of elegant and spacious accommodation in one of the city's most historic and imposing homes.
Perfectly located in the heart of Galway City, Nile Lodge is a mere five-minute walk from the famous Quay Street, brimming with excellent restaurants, pubs, and shops. The beach and seafront are just as close, offering opportunities for leisurely walks or invigorating jogs along the seaside promenade on the shores of Galway Bay.
Nile Lodge is exquisitely furnished with beautiful antiques and fine décor, featuring vaulted ceilings and elegant chandeliers. Guests can unwind or work in privacy across three reception rooms, each exuding charm and comfort. The interior retains period features such as original fireplaces, wooden floors, and high ceilings, blending historical character with modern luxury.
Set on over an acre of mature, landscaped gardens, this outstanding property provides ample parking and a serene retreat. The high-walled private garden, lawn, and atmospheric patio area make Nile Lodge a particularly desirable rental.
The house comfortably accommodates ten guests, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms on the lower garden level. Each bedroom is thoughtfully decorated, ensuring a restful stay.
The house is quite traditional in layout with a stunning entrance hall and bright, spacious rooms with large windows.
The drawing room and dining room are on opposite sides of the hall and both have a wonderful formality and elegance, while still being comfortable and welcoming. Both rooms are ideal for entertaining on a fairly grand scale. The vaulted ceilings have beautiful plasterwork and marble fireplaces, exquisite hand cut chandeliers, beautiful Irish carpets and superior quality antique furniture all add to the grandeur of Nile Lodge.
There is a luxurious living room at the end of the entrance hall which also has a high vaulted ceiling, magnificent antique furniture and large open fire making it perfect for relaxed, intimate conversation. The living room opens onto a period conservatory which, in turn, opens onto a furnished Italianate patio, the perfect place for summer evening barbecues, relaxing with a glass of wine.

About the host
Hosted by Maire MacDermott

I took over the care of this historic house in 1995. I have a great interest of Irish history and culture I have enjoyed hugely looking after this beautiful house and grounds.
I very much enjoyed researching the lives of the previous owners of Nile Lodge, especially the Captain and Commander in Nelsons fleet , William Hutchinson of Nelsons fleet who was its first occupant in 1807.
The famous Rev Peter Daly, was an equally colorful Galway character and in the 1770s was rector of the beautiful St Nicholas Cathedral in the city center.
I love walking the old streets of this city and looking at the pieces of medieval architecture, which can be seen in the beautiful old doorways of Galway.
I also enjoy exploring the nearby countryside and love finding special places to explore
A brisk walk or jog on the nearby seaside promenade which is the longest in Europe is so good for fitness.
Why they chose this property
This house is a place I have always loved. I am very happy in the location near to the sea and city center and have long enjoyable walks near the sea taking in the beauty of Galway Bay. This house was part of the social life of the people of Galway for many years and it is wonderful to see guests enjoy the comfort that it gives.
