About this property
Heart Stone House: 1-bedroom cottage; walk to town, bike path; close to beaches
This well-appointed peaceful and centrally-located place is a sunny and spacious modern one-bedroom cottage located in the heart of historic Wakefield. Relax inside this beautiful light-filled home or sit out on the deck overlooking the gardens and town.
We're minutes from many RI beaches and 30 min from Newport and Providence. Stroll down hill to a lovely park on Saugatucket River, then cross the charming footbridge into town. Here you'll find a variety of restaurants, cafes, and ice cream, plus excellent community theater, yoga, and interesting shops.
The main entry accesses a spacious combined living room and kitchen. The room has a high whitewashed knotty pine ceiling, and a very attractive floor made of reclaimed fir, which is laid throughout the cottage. There are ceiling fans and mini splits for heating and cooling. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a gas range. There is a delightful 10 x 20' hardwood deck off the south side with an outdoor shower.
The bedroom has one queen size bed, with room for a crib. There is a closet and an antique dresser for storage. There is a ceiling fan/light and a wall-mounted mini-split for heating and cooling.
There is a modest bathroom with a tub, shower, and vanity. There is a utility room with a stacking washer and dryer.
Hosts live on the premises in a separate dwelling. Both parking and entrances are private. We're happy to answer questions about the area and share tips on the best places to visit depending on your interests.
This lovely space feels like a sanctuary. We have hosted guests from all over, and we welcome folks who will treat our space with care.

About the host
Hosted by Marjory Stevens
Marjie and David live in the old Victorian house on the property. This is their only rental property, and they are almost always reachable. The cottage is decorated to reflect their love of music and art. They love their grandkids, gardening, travel and the outdoors.Marjie is a retired high school science teacher, and teaches yoga locally at All That Matters Yoga and Wellness. David is a retired ER nurse, plays music (fiddle, guitar, banjo), and loves qi gong, wood fired baking, community gardening and more.
Why they chose this property
Marjie and David have lived in this neighborhood since 2000. We love the proximity to our historic Main Street in Wakefield, and being so close to the beautiful Saugatucket River. We love our neighbors and having a little space in a quiet* part of town. *in summer, there are nights that aren't so quiet, with town festivals bringing a bit more energy and excitement. You will love it!
What makes this property unique
Marjie's gardens (vegetables and flowers) are always a hit, and we have some very large trees on our property, a copper beech and catalpa. Dave is happy to bake fresh sourdough bread for guests with at least a week advance notice. Plain organic whole wheat, or ww cranberry walnut, or ww pumpkin seed sunflower seed
