About this property
Mtn. Chalet With A Tranquil Setting - Close To Everything!
I fell in love with the Smoky Mountains since the first time I set eyes on them. I came down to Gatlinburg for some R&R and next thing you know we bought a chalet to eventually retire in. I fixed it to my liking and now family, friends and YOU are able to enjoy relaxing and a great adventure…hence the name “Secondhand Lions” (a favorite movie of mine). Conveniently located just a few short minute’s to downtown Gatlinburg or to the top of Ski Mountain (Ober Gatlinburg), quiet walkways and, of course, the Great Smoky Mountain park entrance where the adventure really begins.
“Secondhand Lions” …Tranquil setting with all the comforts of home! The great room is decorated in Native American art. The bedrooms are equipped with a pair of Jacuzzi Hydro Message Tubs for that deep relaxation after a long day of hiking or shopping- whichever you prefer.
Surrounded by trees and wildlife make this a very relaxing and comfortable stay. ( Warning: we have bears frequent our deck and seem to be able to open unlocked car doors). Please take a photo of your stay and send me if you encounter a bear on the property. We will display it on our refrigerator.
Special weekly rates and off-season rates…call or email to find out. Enjoy in season Owners Club facilities (choice of 3 on the mountain).
Thank you for choosing our “great mountain getaway”!

Driveway and parking is difficult very steep hard to get into, downstairs shower little water pressure couch not very comfortable limited seating for more than 4 jacuzzi was nice pretty view outside from porch jacuzzi tubs in each room is nice if you like that there was a problem with ants and spiders as well.
This was our first-time visiting the Smokey Mountains and using Vrbo. We had the feeling of being at home with all of the same comforts. Wish we could have stayed longer. Convenient, round 5 minutes from downtown yet quiet and peaceful.
This cabin was quaint and nicely located, though the road leading there was a bit daunting. The property was exactly as described and the location was peaceful but close to downtown Gatlinburg. This was perfect for us because we needed to take our dog with us. One of the few pet friendly rentals around. I would definitely book this property again in the future.
It was a nice property overall. The driveway was a bit steep. The only thing that needs attention is some cleaning. The kitchen needed some extra pots or pans that were newer and under the kitchen sink there was a lot of stuff that shouldn't have been in the kitchen.
The cabin was just perfect, cleanest I've seen since coming on vacation and will definitely stay again. Smelled good well kept, no issues at all. I highly recommend this cabin to everyone looking for a quiet place to have a wonderful vacation. IF only one thing we did not care for was the challenging driveway but we made it work so all was good.
Cozy, clean and comfortable. We loved this cabin. So many reviews voiced concern about the driveway. My Traverse with a low scrape guard did fine once we realized you just need to pull in as far to the left as possible. Don’t let the driveway stop you from experiencing this house. The location is close to downtown but far enough away to experience being “in the mountains.” There’s a small mart around the corner run by very friendly people that is stocked with more stuff than you’d expect. Our family highly recommends this wonderful cabin!
The cabin is very nice and cozy. The driveway is a little tricky to get in and out of. Keep your vehicle locked and all food out of it, bears can smell crumbs, the reason i say this is because there is a resident bear. I am actually surprised that it has not bothered the bee box that is at the side of the cabin but i did not see any active hobey bees so maybe tgat is why. Be careful of wearing just socks on the stairs, they are a little slick, all in all a nice stay

Need new cleaners
I was excited to stay at the chalet. I wish I could have given a better review. Unfortunately I had to bring my child to the Dr. Because of a rash that had developed during our stay. Turned out to be bedbug bites. Very disappointed in the cleanliness. The hot tubs were not clean either. Other than that we enjoyed the place. Very unfortunate it was dirty.
This was our first time using vrbo, so I was little worried about getting charged if they found dog hair so think I cleaned floors better than when I got there. But other than that it was a great cabin. Driveway would scrub in our vehicle. Beds slept well. We love staying in chalet village so this house was perfect for us. Only thing was you can't check in early, I asked no response. We always come early and usually our cabin rental place will call us soon as the cleaners are gone to let us in. Otherwise we loved this cabin. Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your little piece of the mountain.
We love staying with Dave at his beautiful chalet! He is an excellent host, and the location is perfect...close to the park, Gatlinburg, and the bypass. We'll be back next year!!
This place was exactly as described. So clean and very cozy. The driveway was steep but will not prevent us from staying here again. Loved that it was pet friendly. Would highly recommend this chalet.
This property was very nice could use some better cleaning on the jacuzzi tub for the jets but other than that very well maintained. I liked it a lot I for sure will come back. Very sad I didn’t get to see any bears but a bear was there while I was gone. Hill is very sharp turn to go into backing into is the best way to do it if able. I would recommend cutting a section in to put a fake grass area for a dog to use the bathroom in for them because when you got a sissy dog like mine they are very picky. She finally went but it’s not good for them to hold their bladder or poop like that. She didn’t poop at the property till the last day. Thank you David for allowing us to use your property!
Beautiful property, loved the pools.Wish there would have been an area for my puppy to feel comfortable however she did learn fast to use the driveway. The home was everything we needed and more. Beds were comfortably house was roomy and so nice to be able to space out and watch tv in different areas of home.Porch was nice to set on and enjoy the evening.
Loved it so much we will be back. Everything you need we stayed all week it was easy to get to both towns very quite loved it. the host was great and very friendly. We will be back
Wonderful chalet! Super close to downtown (light 10) but felt miles away and secluded. All amenities needed for a little getaway. Will definitely stay here again.
The property was everything that was stated in the description. It was very clean, well provided for, and we had everything that we needed for a pleasant stay. The only thing that it lacked was a view. As far as the driveway is concerned, it was easily navigated, even with a large truck. It just required a reroute from Gatlinburg going through the entire neighborhood. No biggie!
We LOVE this chalet! We have been coming here for several years now. It almost feels like our own vacation home, thanks to Dave sharing his home with us!
The chalet is located close to downtown Gatlinburg and to the bypass to Pigeon Forge, but still beautifully set in the mountains.
The chalet is very clean and has every amenity we could need. Dave is an excellent host making the reservation and check in process a breeze. We have never had any issues while staying here and look forward to returning next year!
This cabin was very nice. It was close to town & the park. It had everything we needed. Communication was great with the owner when needed. The hot tub on the front porch was a nice surprise.
We did see a bear & a few foxes right from the porch. Unfortunately, we did not get pictures of the animals.
My only negative was the angle of the driveway entrance. For my Jeep Wrangler, it was difficult (but not impossible) to pull into from Ski Mountain Road. If I took a slight detour & came at the cabin from the opposite direction, it was much easier to navigate the driveway. I'm pretty sure this is the case for most cabins in the mountains.
The place was awesome. Immaculate. Quiet and secluded. Thanks for sharing your little piece of paradise!

About the host
Hosted by Dave Lyons
Vered and I are two souls that love the outdoors. We climb mountains and hike all over the nation and internationally. We have climbed Mt. Rainier, Mt. Washington and Mesada in Israel. We're always looking for an adventure!
Why they chose this property
We were in Gatlinburg just passively looking at properties. We came across the one here at 991 Stans Road and fell in love with the potential. We refurbished it but still have big plans...for instance a waterfall with hot tub on the edge near the big windows. We want this to be our oasis because we love the area...it's like living a vacation!
What makes this property unique
'Secondhand Lions' is uniquely positioned. It is close to just about everything...not far up the mountain....just right! It's cozy but very spacious...very relaxing while viewing nature out of all those windows.
