As always, this home was perfect. You feel as though you have stepped back in time. The house and the property are lovely and private. We will stay again.
Our family had a fantastic time here as a stay on our "Revolutionary Road trip"!He was very responsive and knowledgeable about everything in the house and suggested a restaurant just down the road that ended up being our favorite eats on the entire trip (Williamsburg/DC)!
We had a fantastic time! The owner spent a lot of time answering all of my son's questions (he had a lot)! The house is beautiful and we really enjoyed the decor and reading the notes the owner had about them.
Staying at this rental house is like living in a dream come true. Everything inside is beautiful and yet fully functional for all ages, from children to the elderly. Our family has stayed there four times now, and we all love it so much! The house is always clean and fully ready for us. The host responds to questions quickly and kindly. We could not be happier with this rental house!

The house and grounds were beautiful. You can tell that the owner has put a lot of time, effort, and money into the residence.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lightwood Forest! Convenient to colonial Williamsburg with only a short ferry ride away. Simply wonderful if you appreciate historic restoration.
My mom, sisters and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The clean, welcoming property was so much fun to explore and enjoy. Staying at this historic property added so much charm to our vacation which included Jamestown and Williamsburg. We enjoyed taking the ferry each day and found this property to be in a great location.
Amazing! Everything was perfect!! We are looking forward to booking this house soon! Cliff left great hx about the house and clocks to read about! Loved that it was kid and pet friendly!
My daughter and I enjoyed our stay at Lightwood! The house has great character and history! We enjoyed also the location and going to Jamestown. Great place for families and those enjoying history!
We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful historical home! From the timeless antiques to the peaceful views, every detail made our time here so special. Our children especially loved exploring and discovering little treasures throughout the house and grounds, while we enjoyed the quiet, relaxing atmosphere. It was truly a refreshing and memorable getaway. We are so grateful for the hospitality and highly recommend this charming place to anyone.

Thank you so much for the nice review. It was a pleasure having you as guests, and we are pleased that you enjoyed yourselves at Lightwood. And, thank you for leaving the house in such tidy shape- it is much appreciated! Please let me know if we can be of help in the future.
Charming historic home on expansive property. Beautiful furnishings felt like we stepped back in time. Convenient location to the ferry that will take you to Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg. Would definitely stay here again.
This is the third time my family and my brother's family have rented this house together for a long weekend, and each visit has been more wonderful than the last. By now, everyone has their favorite bedrooms, favorite chairs, favorite places to hike through the woods -- it has become a place we both remember fondly and look forward to staying at again.

Thanks for the nice words. It was a pleasure having you as guests!
If you love history and are visiting the Williamsburg area this is a perfect place to stay. The house and grounds are amazing and filled with all types of historic anecdotes. The beds were super comfy and there is ample space for a large family or multiple groups. We are agreed that after spending a week visiting all the historic sites the Williamsburg area has to offer staying at this property was the highlight of our trip. Thanks so much!
What an amazing house! It was a very different vacation, but one of the best! We made great memories here 💙

Very nice guests. We knew it was going to happen eventually, but after hundreds of reviews on several different platforms this is the very first non-five star review we have ever received in 19 years. Ok, 4 stars is still good, and this was a very nice review, but a little bit of a shock after so long. We will continue and strive for the next 18 years to receive all five stars!
This property was an amazing way to experience the historic area. My kids loved their attic bedroom and all the nooks and crannies. We enjoyed the art and especially the antiques that Cliff and Joy used to make the home feel authentically 18th century. Cliff was so kind and spent time answering our questions about the property upon arrival. I highly recommend this space for any family who wants to experience a historical getaway!
Outstanding property! A place one can relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Conveniently located to ferry’s. The small town of Surry has friendly people. I highly recommend a visit to this property.
We loved staying here. We enjoyed doing the puzzzles, reading a good selection of books, and looking at all the historical antiques.
The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, and the grounds lovely. It fit right into the history we were wanting to learn about in this area. Would definitely recommend it.
If you want to step back into time and history this is ideal. Our pet loved all the adventures on the trails and running around the yard. The dinning room was my favorite room. We ate all our meals in there in front of the fireplace. I felt as if we were eating and living in a historic home in Williamsburg, but better because of all the private land around us! Finding the Fairy Tree was a bonus.
