Why they chose this property
This house was originally built by a mason, who was working on the Croton Dam in the early 1900s. It survived through the Great Depression by having a convenience store on the first floor. At first it was a small farm house, but with time, it grew into a large house with several apartments.
Even though Croton on Hudson is a relatively small village, it is not “lost in the woods” and has a walk score of 62. The roads may be somewhat active during rush hour, although there is no traffic jams or congestion in the village, to and from train station. As soon as you leave the populated area and go into a natural park like the Tea Town Lake Reservation, you can enjoy nature to its fullest with 1000 acres of protected terrain and 15 miles of hiking trails.

What makes this property unique
Croton on Hudson is a quiet and welcoming community 45 min away from Grand Central, NYC. Croton has beautiful views of Hudson river nearby, surrounded by wooded hills and creeks. Rich with history, art and nature it is truly a weekend retreat. It is a place of several seasonal festivals like Clearwater Music and the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze.
• Close to the train station (‘Croton Harmon’).
• Walking distance from everything.
• Black Cow – a great local place to have a cup of coffee.
• Blue Pig – a local ice cream shop with a great selection of seasonal flavors.
• A pedestal “dummy streetlight”, on the way to coffee shop you will pass a street light, one of just three left in New York State, a little piece of history.
• Parks, bicycle trails and hiking.
• There is also a ski area (‘Thunder Ridge’) a short drive away.
• Teatown Lake Reservation has 1000 acres and 15 miles of trails.
• Croton Gorge Park has 97 acres by the stunning waterfall from the New Croton Dam. Weddings and picnics often take place here.
• Van Cortlandt Manor, a National Historic Landmark, built in 1665 by the Dutch. Hosts the Lantern Blaze in the fall
• Croton Landing Park offers beautiful views of the Hudson River and the Palisades. Contains a 9/11 memorial tribute. Great location for cycling or picnics.
• Croton Point Park hosts the annual Clearwater Festival in June (since 1966) with 15,000 visitors and live music.
Although having a car makes it easier to get around, there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself in the area without one. A respectable walkscore of 62 with a plenty of sidewalks in the village and places to eat and drink located relatively close. There is Enterprise car rental in Croton.
