About this property
Rustic retreat with amazing views, abundant wildlife, convenient location.
This 1950's log cabin vacation rental in Estes Park, Colorado(approval 20-NCD0371), offers 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a large covered front porch, outstanding views, a fully furnished kitchen, laundry room, free internet, 50+ inch smart TV with DVD player in the Living Room and tv’s in the Master Bedroom and both upstairs bedrooms. There are breathtaking views from every room in the house. Effort has been made to maintain the vintage charm while updating and furnishing the home. Many of the items are unique, vintage, and one of a kind. Although it is very close to Estes Park and all the activities, shopping, and restaurants, it sits just off the main road and is surrounded by open space so you are away from the road and have a private feel. You can be in town or to the Rocky Mountain National Park entrance in about 7 minutes and there is fishing as well as a trolley stop .2 mi. up the road in front of Estes Park Campground at Mary' Lake that runs during the summer. The 2 car garage interior has been finished so it is now the ultimate picnic shelter right across from our outdoor picnic area. It is stocked with outdoor games and extra tables and chairs for those who would rather sit under a roof.
Outside there are numerous places to enjoy the view. Our favorite spot is from the covered front porch, which is furnished with rocking chairs during summer months. There is a custom picnic table in the front yard . To the north of the cabin is an open area with a fire pit, iron benches, and log seats where you can play games or sit, enjoy s’mores, view the stars and overlook the valley. We have badminton , corn hole, and a giant Jenga game for outdoors as well as many games, puzzles and books inside for all ages. There is a convenient ramp so you can enter the cabin without having to carry your belongings down stairs. When you exit there is a road through the field that connects back to the road. We see elk and deer, along with many other forms of wildlife, almost every time we visit, especially in the early morning and evening. They love to drink from the pond and munch on the Aspen and Willows that grow along the stream.
The living room features beautiful hand made aspen furniture, a comfy queen sofa sleeper, 50 inch TV, wood burning fireplace and several rocking chairs, including a recliner. The dining room features a pine trestle table that was hand made by Mennonite craftsman and 6 sturdy pine chairs. There is also a pine bench for additional seating and a corner cabinet filled with games and puzzles. There is a fully furnished kitchen with newer appliances and everything you would need to cook for your group, whether it be a casual dinner or a full Thanksgiving meal. We have a set of nicer stone wear as well as melamine dishes and cups. There are several coffee makers, crock pots, microwave safe options for cooking and heating, waffle maker, electric griddle, toaster, all new cookware and utensils as well as a few vintage items for your use during your stay. The Master Bedroom, on the main floor, has a queen log bed, bench, TV stand with storage and ample closet space. One upstairs bedroom has an antique queen bed, a comfy leather chair poised to take advantage of the views, a dresser, nightstand, and closet. The other upstairs bedroom has 2 single bed options, log dresser, and a closet. The upper level also has a reading/nook with a desk where you can work while enjoying the view. There is wi-fi access to a myriad of viewing options using your online accounts such as Netflix, Amazon, and Roku, and a library of DVDs, books, puzzles, and games. We have installed a retractable gate at the top of the stairs so that if you have smaller children you can close and lock it when you are upstairs. We have also kept all cleaning supplies up and out of reach.
We are a licensed vacation rental . A recent survey suggests over 70% of the vacation rentals operating the Estes area are illegal. Legal licensed vacation rentals in the Estes area must meet local building codes, safety requirements, parking requirements, pay taxes and provide commercial insurance. Illegal unlicensed vacation rentals can be shut down anytime, even during your vacation. They often don’t meet local code and can be unsafe for you and your family. Always ask for the license number for any vacation rental you are considering using for your vacation. Aspen Acres was available for the first time to the general public in July of 2017. All the beds are comfortable. The city does require a lodging tax for rentals of less than 30 days. We provide complimentary coffee, tea, spices, paper products, shampoo, soap, firewood and other convenience items! We challenge you to compare prices and features. We believe once you visit, you will become a frequent returning guest. We have complementary coolers, travel thermos, refillable water bottles, shopping bags, freezer bags, etc. for your use during your stay. We are continually improving and adding items we think visitors will appreciate and enjoy. So far, everyone who had stayed at our cabin had just loved it and left us wonderful notes and reviews. We strive to provide a 5 star experience. If you are coming to celebrate a special occasion let me know and for a little extra I can have banners, cake, etc there and ready for you. There is a Country market and deli within one mile near the corner of Mary's Lake and Moraine Ave so it is easy to stock up on your way to the cabin.

Mary responded quickly to all questions. The cabin was very clean and cozy. Being just minutes from the park and the downtown grocery shopping was perfect. There was plenty of privacy and we were fortunate to see elk and deer near the cabin. Hope to return in the future!!
It was an excellent location near Estes Park and Rocky Mountain NP but it still felt removed from the busiest parts. The house suited our needs and was a comfortable place to relax after busy days exploring the area. We enjoyed seeing elk and deer on a number of occasions.
We really enjoyed our stay here. I would recommend it to anyone.

Great location, beautiful setting this was perfect accommodation.
Looking for a place for myself and some relatives to stay that was close to Estes. This was perfect, quiet and quaint destination for my two year old niece as well as both my Aunts and my cousins. Great homeaway!

We enjoyed this property very much. The beds were comfortable, and the cabin was completely stocked with anything that we would need. This property is very close to shopping and restaurants in Estes.

The cabin was a great choice! Mary made sure everything we needed was available for us to use.
The cabin was a great place to relax after hiking all day! Everyone enjoyed the deer and elk walking through the front yard. It wasn’t far from town when we went shopping yet provided a serene place to relax. We would definitely return for another stay!

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! We hope you make it back soon.
My family and I stayed here for the Rocky Mountain National Park part of our Denver family vacation. The hosts were responsive and lovely, the entire place was fully stocked and great for a family trip. The outdoor games were a favorite of my kids (especially the foosball). One of the best experiences we have had.
Beautiful view adequate size great location overall very nice! Truly enjoyed our stay! O e of the most well supplied homes we have ever stayed in. The kids enjoyed yard and the views.
Thanks
Property was better than expected! House was clean and super cute. Saw deer in the yard almost every morning. Owner was great to communicate with. Short drive to RMNP
The cabin was very well equipped/stocked with anything that you would normally have in your home. The owners were very accommodating and available at all times. There is abundant wildlife (i.e. deer, birds, rabbits, etc.) to watch at dawn and dusk and the view of the mountains was beautiful. We will definitely rebook on a future return trip!
This cabin was perfect for our family of 6 from 2.5 years to 68. The location, accessiblity, and being just far enough away from the city bustle was perfect for us. We loved how fully stocked the kitchen was to meet our daily needs and how relaxing the set-up was in the rest of the house. The gliding rockers were perfect for snuggling with our grandchild. Mary was a perfect hostess, responding quickly to our every need.
Cozy home. Gorgeous views. Comfy beds. There was enough room for all 6 of us! Fully stocked kitchen. Nice location. Minutes away from RMNP entrance. Also a nice grocery store that we love to shop at! We saw elk and deer in the yard! Would definitely recommend!
We had three people staying at this property for a week in the summer season. We liked the location, as it's a mile or two outside the summer crush of downtown Estes Park, but within quick driving distance of a grocery store and gas station. The cabin itself was well-appointed, and sits on three acres that is frequented by elk and other wildlife that drink from a small pond. If it had a dishwasher, I'd have given it 5 stars. Nice place to stay.

I have to say I'm disappointed that you are one of very few people not giving us a 5 star review. You knew when you booked that it didn't have a dishwasher and the review should have been for what was actually there. I even went out of my way to notify you about items left behind and priority mail them to you at my time and expense. We may not have a dishwasher but we have many amenities and a setting you will not find with many other listings that might have a dishwasher. I hope you don't downgrade any future listings you stay at for things they can't change or that were accurately advertised in the listing.
Property is amazingly authentic and comfortable. Everything you want. Such attention to details and necessities to make you comfortable. Saw elk several times. The view is incredible. The proximity to the park made hiking expeditions in the park so easy. Would definitely recommend and stay here again!

Thank you again for staying and for your kind words. It’s a simple cabin but it’s our happy place and we strive to make it comfortable for all who stay. We are so glad the elk came to visit while you were there.
The listing was accurate. The property is very close to the entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. They also have tons of toys my baby enjoyed playing with. As mentioned in the listing, there isn't AC. It isn't a huge problem but when the high is 80 degrees, it does get a little warm in the upstairs bedrooms. Other than that, it's a perfect place to stay, and we would definitely stay here again!

An Enjoyable way to spend Christmas with the family
We enjoyed ourselves completely. The cabin was comfortable and had everything we needed. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas. We just added our Christmas stockings and were ready to celebrate Christmas. The grandkids enjoyed exploring the outdoors with their dad. There was enough room for them to run around and run off some steam. We are hoping to do this at some other time. It was great fun and beautiful. Vicky

Mary Doty, the owner was very kind and assisted us with all needs. We enjoyed our stay.
As is the case with life nothing is perfect but this cabin came close. I would only suggest that the upstairs bathroom needs a latch to use the bathroom in priracy, also one of the upstairs rooms has no heater and the room get cold at night. Lastly we found a dead mouse in the lower cabinet when pulling out a pan to use and this was a bit upsetting for the girls but on a positive note we saw mouse traps. Our overall experience was positive and we are thankful for this. We would come back again because the cabin is cozy and the area so beautiful.

Thanks again for staying. There was a latch on the upstairs bathroom so perhaps someone broke it since we were there last. Sorry about the mouse. It’s the first one we’ve found inside since we started renting. Our cleaner found the outside doors open when she cane to clean last week so the little critter had a chance to sneak in. The main heater in the dining room is actually enough for the whole cabin but the 2 additional ones were added for the comfort of the guests as well as we recently installed new windows in all bedrooms to help insulate against the weather.
We loved the location. Wildlife through the property each day. The house was very well stocked. Nice having privacy around us on the lot. Communication with host was good.
The only thing keeping us from putting 5 starts is a mouse that was in the lower bedroom and ate and got in a lot of our food in the kitchen. This alone is not good but our host new this was an issue. It would have been nice to have been made aware of this so we could keep our food not in the fridge in harder to place contianers or areas.

Mice were an issue earlier this summer after not having guests for 3 months but it had been weeks since we saw one. There is a trap that is in plain view in the laundry room. This is the first time anyone has actually seen one or had an issue all summer. We did catch 3 about a week after you left. Sorry they caused you grief.
Check in was easy, the doors were unlocked and everything was ready for us.We did a lot of cooking. The kitchen items were ok, it would have been nice to have a little bit better cookware and utensils. We used the laundry room, it would have been nice to have a basket to put clothes in. We didn’t think to bring that. We loved the front porch! The chairs were comfortable and we enjoyed sitting outside each morning and evening, watching for deer to make their way through. I wish we could have opened some of the downstairs windows to get a breeze through the house, sometimes cooking really heated up the kitchen area. Something we didn’t realize in advance was that there were other houses very close by. Our crew gets kind of loud sometimes so that’s something to note if you’re bringing your kids! We were visited by the owner one morning and he was very friendly and helpful.

Thank you for the feedback. I’m sorry you didn’t see the collapsible laundry basket in the laundry room. I will look into some new cookware. I’ve replaced several times and went with stainless steel since guests scratched the non stick I had even though I provided wood and plastic spoons etc to use while cooking. All homes in the area are on acreage and I doubt if anyone could hear your kids no matter how loud they screamed. If you open the kitchen window , bedroom window on main floor and entrance door so that the screen door is exposed you can get a great breeze going. All rooms upstairs have windows and fans as well.
Mary's cabin was very comfortable for our group of 4. The kitchen was well equipped and contained everything necessary to prepare meals, including basic supplies such as cooking oil and spices.
The front porch, while facing a road which was heavily travelled at times, was a great place to relax at the end of a day in the park.
There was a well-stocked market and gas station nearby and the primary eastern entrance to RMNP was just a few minutes drive.
The downtown area was also only several minutes away.
One possible concern for anyone with mobility issue is that you must manage several stairs in order to access the property from the driveway.
The other being that there is no AC, and while the windows provide great airflow, hot weather may make the cabin uncomfortably warm, especially in the upstairs bedrooms.
Overall, though, a great place.

Greetings, we hope you enjoy your stay at Aspen Acres in Estes Park. Mike is a welder, who also went to school for construction. Mary is a fiber artist, has a background in Outdoor Education and has been a Realtor since 1994. Together we have remodeled 4 older homes and have owned rental property for over 25 years. We love older homes and strive to reuse items salvaged from the property to create new and unique spaces. The upstairs bedroom wall was designed using windows found in the garage. All the upstairs doors were adapted and installed for your privacy and a retractable gate was added at the top of the stairs so families with children wouldn't have to worry about the stairs.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with Estes Park a long time ago and have spent many weekends exploring the Estes Valley. When we saw this property with the acreage setting, the log cabin with knotty pine walls and the large covered front porch, we felt that this was a perfect family get away and the one for us. The original one room cabin and 3 car garage were a bonus. We were grateful that the previous owners had just updated the electrical, plumbing, and heating. We have worked hard to furnish the cabin, enhance and improve the setting and make the updates needed to be a vacation rental. It is now ready and our first guests arrived at the end of June, 2017.
What makes this property unique
If you want to experience Estes from a safe, comfortable location, in a real log cabin with all the new modern conveniences that premium properties have to offer, Aspen Acres in Estes Park is guaranteed to exceed your expectations. The setting provides privacy, a convenient location, a great view and lots of animal life. We want our vacation rental guests to arrive at our log cabin and never want to leave the cabin during their entire stay. There are plenty of things to do in and around the cabin. In addition, you can fish, hike or snow shoe at many nearby areas. If you want entertainment, it is less than a mile to restaurants, bars, groceries and shopping.
