We had a wonderful stay at Captain’s Quarters! The accommodations are spacious and charming and were well equipped for a great family gathering for us, especially the kitchen. It is an ideal location for any activities in Acadia National Park, hiking on Mt. Desert Island, Bar Harbor and the surrounding area. Jan is a wonderful and very helpful host.

Amazing location!!!

We absolutely loved our stay in this quaint Maine house with a beautiful view! Great location - easy access to Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor, deer in the yard daily, and lobsters off the boat at the bottom of the hill. It suited our extended family perfectly- we will be back!

Captains Quarters

Great location for Acadian National Park. Wonderful access to hiking, kayaking, etc with short drives. House was very spacious and comfortable.

We had our entire family 8 adults and 2 children on a trip to Acadia national park . The house was perfect for us . Overlooking Some Sound with deer joining each day in the backyard. We had a great time

Family reunion on Acadia

We enjoyed the location and many fun things to do in the area. The house was large enough for a big family. The check in was easy. The home is well equipped with the things you need. There is an iga nearby for groceries when the first ones ran out.

The property was quaint and charming. However we were on Mt Desert during a hot spell and only one room was air conditioned. Beautiful views! We were visiting family in Somesville so the location was perfect for us!

Maine retreat

Loved the location! We loved sitting on the deck and watching the deer and enjoying the morning sky over the water. It's so quiet yet is still conveniently close to Acadia Park and Bar Harbor. The house is very spacious and well stocked. This is definitely a place we would consider if we return to Maine. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed our stay. Teenagers' loved the bedroom above the garage. Enjoyed seeing the deer playing in the front. Would liked a handrail or handle to help getting up the small stairs inside the front door.

View from the living room was exactly as posted in the listing. The rooms were spacious. The kitchen, towels , and soap etc. were the best stocked house we have ever stayed in. Location near southwest har or was ideal, to escape the crowds of the Bar Harbor side of the island. Our only surprise was the room over the garage was not accessible from the house, you had to walk through the garage. This is good for those who like to hibernate, but for some it my have felt isolating. Our traveler who stayed in it relished the privacy. Would stay again when in Acadia! A note of interest for those who may need to work while away, Wifi/ cell can be weak at times, but this was the entire park area, I do not think it was specific to this house. Many parts of the park had no cell coverage at all. Thank you Captains Quarters for a wonderful family vacation week

Family vacation at Acadia National Park

This property was exactly as described. We had 7 adults and 3 children under the age of 4 and had plenty of room. We ate many meals at the house and had plenty of plates utensils, pots pans, etc. This property is only 20 minutes away from the park, Bar Harbor and many hiking trials. The communication with the host Jan was outstanding. We would definitely stay here again!

Great views!

Plenty of space for 3 couples. Great water view off the deck. Saw the deer walking around the property. Water pressure for showers was weak but we made the best of it. Captains Quarters would be a stellar property if it were updated. The artwork was very nice touch.

Perfect location, beautiful views

We had a fabulous stay at Captains Quarters. The property is clean and spacious. Conveniently located minutes away from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor while affording peace and privacy. The view from the back deck overlooking the Somes Sound is beautiful. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you'd need to cook, including a lobster pot and popover tins. The beds are very comfortable and rooms are large. Jan was so responsive to answer any questions we had. We would definitely stay here again.

Western Acadia

Excellent location next door to Acadia, my husband and brother in law walked to the Acadia Mountain hike from the property. Jan is great, very responsive. The kitchen is well stocked with plenty of kitchen essentials including a crock pot which was amazing. We also had a very large group and didn’t run out of towels! The large porch on the back overlooking Somes Sound was my favorite, drinking coffee and eating breakfast there in the morning I won’t easily forget

Our overall stay was great. Very comfortable and offered many fans on those warm humid days. The AC is only in room above garage, a point which I did not see the detail on. Was exactly as advertized, we enjoyed the shaded deck and views of the sound particularly. We ate most of the meals on the picnic table on the deck. The house comfortalbly fit the group of 8 we had, the kitchen was well stocked, and was a compfortable temperature, even on the hot days (having fans in every roomm was a help). plenty of parking . As mentioned in previous reviews the decor is dated but the house is bargain priced to accommate. We had some snafus the first day upon check-in, but once we reached the owner, she rapidly resovled any issues quite satifactorily. Be aware that cell phone service at the house is spotty and many of fthe sorrounding areas are quite spotty to non-existant. Internet at the house worked well.

We enjoyed our time at the Captain’s Quarters very much. Jan was a wonderful host and was very effective in communicating directions, the check in process and recommendations of places to go/see. We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the property surroundings. The view of the Somes Sound was beautiful! The property was very centrally located and a short drive to all the things we wanted to do…Jordan Pond, Bar Harbor, Echo Lake and other trails in Acadia. We enjoyed our trip very much. *We did experience some extremely hot weather while we were there and the house became very hot. We could have benefited from an AC unit although there were multiple fans that helped a little.
