Filled with tall trees, beautiful gardens and historic homes on large lots, Hyman Heights residents are very friendly and will say hello as they walk their dogs or ride their bikes.
We are the third owners of the Blue Door Bungalow. Built in 1943, this home was lived in and loved by one family for over 70 years, beginning in the 1950s. Our goal was to honor the Blue Door Bungalow's history as we brought it up to 21st-century standards.
We are proud to say that the Blue Door Bungalow now has air conditioning from a new HVAC system, as well as a brand-new kitchen and bath. We have also updated many things you can't see, which will make your stay more comfortable and reliable.
The home has one large master bedroom with a queen-sized bed and a large closet, plus a second bedroom with two twin beds. All mattresses are the same high quality bamboo-topped cooling mattresses made in North Carolina. There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the interior space or look out the windows. There is a dedicated workspace and office chair, plus plenty of other sitting/working areas inside to soak up the light. There is also a large covered porch. Western North Carolina is a porch culture, and you can see the mountains from our front porch, which is filled with chairs and a small table and chairs.
The backyard is large and filled with mature trees,. There is a hidden area under the master bedroom with a picnic table and chairs should you want to eat a meal while enjoying the greenery. There is also a picnic table and brand new propane grill in our new grilling area.
The home has a brand-new washer/dryer in the basement, as well as a large driveway that can accommodate up to three cars parked back-to-back. There is also ample street parking.
The neighbors are all lovely and will welcome you to Hyman Heights! We can't wait to host you at the Blue Door Bungalow!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The kitchen was well stocked with spices and oils. Plenty of dishware. The furnishings were nice. Roku tv in living room. The location was only like 6 minutes from downtown Hendersonville. Would definitely consider staying here again.

Thank you for your lovely review, Sandy. You are such a wonderful guest. It was a pleasure hosting you at the Blue Door -- and we look forward to welcoming you again!
Thank you, Victoria, for a terrific couple of days at the Blue Door Bungalow! This property is everything advertised to be and more! We were so happy with our first experience with Vrbo. You were so responsive to all questions. The kitchen was well appointed. The washer and dryer were large size and very efficient. You have a huge TV in the living room! We didn’t use the bicycles or any of the other outdoor activities as my husband was not able, but it was there for our use if we wanted to and the Ecusta Trail is very close if you want to go biking or hiking. There is a café and brewery down the trail a little bit from the cottage where we enjoyed a very nice dinner. You will not be disappointed if you stay at the Blue Door Bungalow! Downtown Hendersonville is a delight to explore, and you are not far from the Biltmore and many other wonderful places to visit. If you are flying in, you will come into Asheville and again that is a hop, skip and a jump to the Blue Door Bungalow. I don’t usually post a review, but this place goes beyond our expectations and deserves to be well received in the Vrbo world. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did ours!Charlotte

Charlotte-Thank you so much foR such a lovely ans detailed review. We were so happy To host you and your husband at the Blue Door — and we wosh you both all the best!
I love to travel and have explored much of this beautiful planet. I was introduced to VRBO by my co-host, Toria. Staying at a VRBO makes me feel like a local wherever I go. In 2022, Toria and I created our first vacation rental, Sadly, Hurricane Helene destroyed our much-loved Grey Dove Cottage. Now, we've come back stronger with the Blue Door Bungalow. We hope you'll enjoy feeling like a local in one of the best small towns in Western North Carolina!
Why they chose this property
Hyman Heights is a close-knit historic neighborhood, diverse yet very close-knit. People walk their dogs and sit on porches in chats. Mature trees, historic homes, walkable to Seventh Avenue, the Farmers Market, and Main Street. We think it's the best small town in Western North Carolina.
What makes this property unique
We are just the third owners of this 1943 home -- and we have lovingly brought it into the the 21st century with new HVAC, kitchen, bathroom, paint, and more! It has a historic feel but all the modern touches. It is set on four lots with a huge backyard and mature trees. A great front porch with morning sun and lots of flowers, too! We are at the top of Hyman Heights, very quiet, on a cul-de-sac. All the neighbors know each other and welcome guests! You'll love it here.
