About the host
Hosted by Selah Moss
Hi, I'm Selah! I'm a therapist, registered nurse, nature lover, and the owner of Hummingbird Hollow. I live in Columbus, Ohio, but have always felt drawn to the quieter pace and natural beauty of southeastern Ohio. When I first discovered this property during the pandemic, I fell in love with the rolling hills, the woods, the wildlife, and the sense of peace that seems to settle over the land.
I created Hummingbird Hollow as a place where people can step away from the busyness of everyday life and reconnect with what matters most. Whether that means spending time with a partner, enjoying a solo retreat, gathering around a fire with friends, exploring nature, reading a good book, or simply taking a deep breath and slowing down, I hope guests find the space restorative in their own unique way.
When I'm not hosting, I enjoy hiking, gardening, traveling, spending time with my family and animals, and exploring the many ways that nature supports our well-being. I'm also passionate about creating welcoming, inclusive spaces where people can feel comfortable being themselves.
One of my favorite things about hosting is hearing how different guests experience Hummingbird Hollow. Some come for adventure, some for rest, some for celebration, and some simply for a change of scenery. No matter what brings you here, I'm grateful you've chosen to spend part of your journey at Hummingbird Hollow and hope your stay leaves you feeling refreshed, grounded, and connected to the beauty of the natural world.
Why they chose this property
Hummingbird Hollow is nestled in the rolling hills and hollows of southeastern Ohio, an area known for its scenic beauty, winding country roads, abundant wildlife, and slower pace of life. The cabin sits on private wooded acreage, offering guests a sense of seclusion and tranquility while still being within easy driving distance of nearby attractions.
One of my favorite things about this area is how quickly it invites you to slow down. Mornings are often filled with birdsong and mist drifting through the trees, while evenings bring stunning sunsets, star-filled skies, and the sounds of crickets and frogs. Throughout the year, the landscape is constantly changing—from vibrant spring wildflowers and lush summer greenery to brilliant autumn foliage and the quiet stillness of winter.
While the cabin feels wonderfully tucked away, you're only about 25 minutes from Athens and Ohio University, where you'll find locally owned restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, live music, farmers markets, and a vibrant arts community. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore nearby hiking trails, state parks, lakes, and countless opportunities for kayaking, fishing, birdwatching, and nature photography.
The area is ideal for anyone seeking a break from busy schedules and constant connectivity. Many guests come here to unplug, spend time outdoors, enjoy a campfire, read a good book, reconnect with loved ones, or simply enjoy a few days surrounded by nature.
What I enjoy most about this corner of Ohio is the feeling that there is still room to breathe. It's a place where you can wake with the sun, spend the day outdoors, and end the evening under a blanket of stars. Whether you're looking for adventure, solitude, creativity, or rest, southeastern Ohio has a way of making people feel welcome and helping them reconnect with the things that matter most.
What makes this property unique
What makes Hummingbird Hollow special is the combination of privacy, simplicity, and intention. While there are many cabins in southeastern Ohio, few offer the same sense of seclusion while remaining so accessible. Nestled on 7 private wooded acres, the property provides space to slow down, unplug, and enjoy nature without feeling rushed or crowded.
The cabin itself is intentionally simple and cozy. Rather than focusing on luxury amenities or constant entertainment, Hummingbird Hollow offers something many people find increasingly rare: quiet. Guests often tell me that one of their favorite parts of their stay is listening to the wind in the trees, watching the stars, gathering around a fire, or simply spending uninterrupted time with the people they care about.
Another feature that makes the property unique is its camping platform, which allows guests to expand their outdoor experience and enjoy the surrounding woods in different ways. The acreage offers opportunities for exploring, wildlife watching, hammock lounging, stargazing, and enjoying the changing seasons.
Hummingbird Hollow is also proud to be one of Ohio's only openly clothing-optional, naturist-friendly vacation rental. While naturism is never expected or required, guests who appreciate body acceptance and the freedom to enjoy nature in a comfortable and respectful environment are welcome here.
Most importantly, Hummingbird Hollow was created with the hope that it would feel less like a rental and more like a sanctuary. As a therapist, nurse, and lifelong nature lover, I wanted to create a place where people could step away from the demands of everyday life and reconnect with themselves, their loved ones, and the natural world. Whether you're seeking rest, adventure, creativity, romance, or simply a quiet weekend away, my hope is that you'll leave feeling refreshed, grounded, and eager to return.
