Very comfortable and everything we needed for a week's stay. Lovely location and local shop and pub were excellent. A little disappointed with the outside space but overall a very enjoyable week.

Lovely cottage in an idyllic setting
Well equipped and extremely clean cottage located in the heart of the village. Local pubs and tearoom provide good food. Lots of places to visit nearby. Couple of issues that we have raised were resolved quicky with the owner .

Thank you Carol for your kind words and that you loved the cottage. I'm so sorry once again that our Neighbours renovations caused you disruption. It is so sad that our guests over the last few months are not experiencing our cottage or Exford itself, at its best.
But thank you for your understanding and I really hope we can welcome you back in the future.
Kind regards,
Tess
We had a great holiday despite the rain!
The cottage was cosy, comfortable and spotlessly clean and provided a lovely base for some excellent walks.
It was very well equipped and we lacked for nothing.
The proximity of 2 hotels/ pubs both of which provided high quality food was the icing on the cake.

We enjoyed our second holiday staying at the Old Forge. This delightful cottage is set in the lovely village of Exford. It's a perfect location for exploring Exmoor, we also visited Woolacombe, Ilfracombe, Lynmouth as well as Dunster and Minehead.
The cottage is very cosy, with everything you could possibly need. It really feels like home!
We can't wait to come back again for another holiday!

Lovely cottage. If self catering, you will need bring everything for cooking- spices etc. Nothing in the cottage.
This was perfect for me to take my 84 year old mum who used to go to Exmoor alot with my father on holidays.
The cottage is perfectly placed in the middle of this lovely little village, we used both pub/restaurants and will visit again soon! God willing.
Just what we needed for 3 adults and 2 small dogs. Village centre location perforce for watching the world go by and walking to pubs/restaurants. Spotlessly clean and great communications from host explaining everything. Highly recommend.

The Old Forge is an extremely well set up cottage on the village green. It is very well equipped and very comfortable. The village itself is the local centre of the farming community as also the base of the local hunt - people are very friendly. There two excellent pubs and a well stocked village shop - holidays could hardly be easier! We hope to return.

mention the bin collections and the recycle rules, what needs to go in which bin. Cutlery and crockery in numbers could be a bit more in numbers . We were only with two so we could get it to work. But a party of 4 would quickly run out of cups or plates.
In the main very nice stay, lovely cottage. And the neighbour was not too noisy....

Staying in The Old Forge Cottage,Exdord
Found being in the cottage very noisy with many large vehicles thundering past, sometimes very early which started our little dog barking,it seems to be a main through road for huge container lorries etc. Certainly not quiet and peaceful which is what we needed after a traumatic past few months. Double glazing is definately needed. Lovely cottage though , just furniture in the lounge area could be a bit more up to date and comfortable and recycling tips etc displayed more prominantly as we did not find them til we were leaving. If we come that way again we would look for somewhere much quieter in the village.

Hi Judith, I'm very sorry to hear you found our cottage noisy, this is normally not at all the case, I always see it like most do - a little pocket of tranquility.
But unfortunately, as you would have seen, our neighbour's are having their cottage completely renovated which has caused quite a lot of disruption for our guests over the past few months and I can only apologise but obviously it is out of my control, but it is all due to be finished by the end of 2022.
I totally agree with you regarding the windows, and we are actually having double glazed windows installed next month (November 2022). We just had to wait for the quieter months in order to do this.
Aside of the unusual noise, I'm really pleased you loved the cottage. I do hope you would consider returning once the double glazing is in and our Neighbours have finished their project.
Kind regards,
Tess
Excellent location village shop sold everything you needed including gifts fresh bread and freshly cooked pastries etc, You could also order fresh fish once a week .The Crown was across the road and served delicious food .Staff were friendly and service was excellent.
This property was in a rural setting but driving distance from the coast. There was a hitch out of anyone's control, but the owner sorted it and all went well.
The cottage was cosy. The kitchen/diner quite large. Sitting outside in the small yard at the rear was not really inviting, but there was a bench seat just outside on the village green that was lovely. The property and location suited us well.
This was just a short ‘after lockdown break’ for myself, my sister and Mungo, her golden retriever. The cottage was in a perfect location and although we did make a foray or two further afield could easily have spent every day exploring locally.. It did rain fairly constantly but that didn’t deter us and we felt very comfortable taking Mungo back to our dog-friendly, warm cottage where we were able to dry off and relax.
Everything was exellent i.e the cottage, location, local amenities, the only thig
The whole package was good ie cottage, location, amenitys I would have liked somewhere to hang a bathrobe in the bathroom and the front door gets stuck.
But overall everthing was very good and the cottage was very comfortable.
The Old Forge Cottage was exactly what it said in the advert......a cosy base, in a picturesque village, ideally located in this beautifully scenic area.
Unfortunately for us the changeable weather (Storm Francis!) did not encourage us to explore the local footpaths and bridleways of which there are numerable. Instead we used our stay to explore the surrounding countryside and coast.
Returning each day to the cottage before adjourning to either of the 2 excellent village pubs for a lovely meal made for a completely relaxing stay.
A very enjoyable stay with the cottage itself providing everything you would want and expect.

About the host
Hosted by Tess Lakin
As a family we have been visiting North and South Devon for over 40 years. It became our second home and so nearly 30 years ago we invested in our beautiful Exmoor Cottage to enjoy as a family. 10 years ago we decided that we would love others to enjoy it as much as we do and it is now a holiday let available all year round. As a family we also have our collection of 'homes by the sea'. We are very proud of them and their fantastic locations in Croyde (North Devon) and Salcombe (South Devon) We hope our guests enjoy them just as much as we do!
Why they chose this property
This beautiful cottage has been in our family for over 40 years and we are very proud of it with its original features, being once upon a time the old Blacksmith's Workshop. We refurbished it once again 8 years ago to become the quaint and cosy holiday let it is today. We still very much use it as a family but now welcome our guests to enjoy staying here just as much as we do!
What makes this property unique
Exmoor is one of 15 UK National Parks and an International Dark Sky Reserve. Famous for its wild deer and ponies, dramatic coastline and rugged heather moorland, there’s plenty to see and do. Exford is a very pretty village right in the heart of Exmoor, so if you want to go for a relaxing drive through the moors or even take your bicycle, there is so much to explore in every which way you choose!
