Charming Oceanfront Home on Ali'i Drive

Located on a quiet oceanfront property just south of commercial Kona, this two-bedroom two-bath vintage cottage boasts a large covered lanai, classic Hawaiiana furnishings and a grassy yard with parking. With one queen bed and three twins, it’s ideal for a small to medium family or a couple wanting some well earned space. The kitchen, which offers both a bar and a dining table for four, has ocean views to the north and south, where whales splashing about offshore can be seen regularly from November-March. Two surf spots are located just out front to either side — one for all levels and one for experts only — guests can check out Pacific Vibrations Surf shop in downtown Kona for all your surfboard rentals. Having been owned by the same family for three generations, this charming cottage has the upside of mixing time with labor of love.

*NOTE: This home is located on the marathon route for the Ironman World Championship that occurs in Kona every October, and will be affected by road closures related to the race.

Right on the Coast

The location was amazing. We would listen to the waves crashing at night and see the surfers in the morning. It was an easy jog into Kona for food and fun. Snorkeling in the area was great. We visited over Christmas and, overall, we had a fantastic time in Kona!

Perfect stay in Kona!

We loved our week spent in Kona. This vintage cottage was perfect for our family of 4 (including 2 teenagers). The lanai and private bay were so peaceful and relaxing we spent all of our time here when not scuba diving or mountain biking. Heidi was the best host and was very quick to provide recommendations and answer questions. We really hope to return to this amazing property!

This home is a Hawaiian dream. It was spotless and lovingly maintained... incredibly well stocked with everything you could want. The lanai is where we lived...day and night...it doesnt get better than this. Surfing to the left and to the right!!

PERFECTION!

I cannot say enough great things about this place. My husband and I stayed 10 days here for our 10 year annniversay trip and have never felt more at home at a vacation rental than we did here. The house is everything you want it to be. The locationnis perfect. Its private, quiet, and clean. The ocean views and daily sunsets were magical. We spent each day adventuring around Kona and couldnt wait to settle home here on the Lanai watching the sunset and having dinner listening to the waves, watching the survers, the sealife and the relaxation. I cant tell you how many times my husband fell asleep out there! When we come back to Kona we will look to book this place again. THANK YOU so much for givingnus a home away from home!

Mixed Experience with Incredible Views but Room for Improvement

We recently stayed at this VRBO in Kona, and the highlight of the property is, without a doubt, the lanai. We spent most of our time there, soaking up sunsets and enjoying the ocean views. If you love outdoor spaces and don’t mind spending your vacation mostly outside, this place might suit you well. We found the inside of the house very musty/dusty, it is definitely something to keep in mind if you’re sensitive to dust or allergens. We knew it had no AC, but we had to make a Walmart run to buy air-purifying spray. We also ended up buying two large box fans since the ones provided were either too small, didn’t work, and were very dirty. For the price of the rental, we expected better upkeep. We messaged the host asking if there were options for us if we decided not to stay due to the dust leading to sinus issues for one of us. We were told they needed to speak to the owners, but unfortunately, we didn't hear any further so just dealt with it best we could. If you’re all about the view and are okay with the quirks of tropical living, this place has its charms. But for the price, be aware of the trade-offs. This rental could be perfect for sunset lovers and lanai enthusiasts, but travelers with allergies or higher expectations for cleanliness and upkeep might want to explore other options.

Reviewer Comments: We arrived on Christmas Day, Monday Dec. 25 and left on Monday, Jan. 1,New Years Day. The only problem with arriving on a Monday that is a Holiday, no trash pick up. So the entire time we were there we had no trash service. I tried texting the number I was given if there was a problem and the reply from the text was, I had the wrong number. Mind you it was the number listed at the rental on the information page for tenants. If it wasn't for the trash issue I would give all 5 stars for the rental. The location is perfect, saw sea turtles everyday right down in from of the house on the water, Sunsets beautiful. I feel it's best for a family or couple. It would have been difficult if it was 2 couples, one bedroom had 3 twin beds the other a queen. There are 2 full bathrooms and the kitchen sink overlooks the ocean which made doing dishes wonderful. I would recommend this property. Snorkeling, paddle boarding, bogey boarding, hiking you name it it's all there. We had a wonderful time.

Nice and cozy home with a central location between shopping, restaurants, and beaches. The cons seem like nitpicking but you should be aware of them. Traffic on Ali’i can be distracting if you wake easily, and since the neighbor seems to have a used car lot at his house getting out of the property can be difficult and could really be helped with some mirrors. The management company says they have a concierge but we never got a response with three attempts after the initial contact. Wth all that being said, I would definitely stay at this house again.

Not sandy beach babe t we were not looking for beachfront. Relaxing lanai and terrific location for watching surfers and sunsets. Overall, comfortable but pricey. For the cost, the beds are rock hard and can leave one stiff. Driveway needs mirrors in order to safely pull out onto road. Neighbors park vehicles on shoulder eliminating view to oncoming traffic. Great place for an unplugged stay that does not suffocate as resorts can do. I would recommend with eyes wide open on bed comfort.

This is an authentic older house with great summer cabin feel- open shutters and doors for breezes and ocean sound. We loved our spot for enjoying full day access and viewing of the ocean and lava rocks (with turtles) right out front. The generous linai, the well stocked kitchen, the comfy living room were all as pictured and wonderful. Easy access to town and anything Kona right off Alii Dr. The one slight issue was noise in in the bedrooms from Alii, but the road calms down a lot at night and doesn't impact the living spaces at all. If you are looking for an authentic cabin on the water from which to explore both the water and Kona- this place can't be beat!
