About this property
Maine Coast Experience. Full 180 Degree Ocean View. 275ft of frontage.
If you need an escape for the whole family (or perhaps from the whole family), a couples retreat, or simply the solitude of Maine's beauty; consider The Point.
Located on the southernmost tip of Gun Point peninsula in Harpswell, The Point has many amenities that few have the chance to encounter. Guests will enjoy over 275 feet of Maine's beautiful shoreline. With two pebble beaches, rocky ledges and a tide pool your stay is at much more than just a house with a view, it is a place of experiences.
The beach sits just 75 feet from the front deck where you will have sweeping southern views. You will see half a dozen small islands, working lobster boats, sailboats, Great Blue Herons, and Ospreys almost every day of your stay. “A spectacular location!" are always the words of first-time visitors to The Point.
If you need a change of pace, you have a full sized 20x40 solar-heated saltwater pool and a deep water dock on the property for you. The house is at the end of a two mile private road so a quiet afternoon walk is another way to break from the flurry of everyday life. A fire pit on the front lawn, and only steps from the ocean, is a cozy way to watch the stars. Whatever you choose, you will be lost to your surroundings - Maine’s natural beauty.
The main house has five bedrooms and will accommodate eight comfortably. (If your party has more than 8 guests, we have a fee of $40 per guest per night ) No more than 10 people . The first floor has an open floor plan with a combined kitchen, dining and living area opening out onto a large front deck. A brand new bedroom is located on the first floor, with a king size bed, and attached full bath, which are both airconditioned per heat pump. (the only air conditioning in the home) The other 4 bedrooms are located on the second floor. The full kitchen has all the equipment you need to prepare meals or to host your own traditional Maine lobster bake. An oversized, six burner gas grill is also at your disposal for more cooking options. For the rare occasion when you find yourself indoors the house has WiFi, cable TV, a diverse reading library and family/couples board games. The home is clean and comfortable with the owner available (a mile up the road) in case of emergencies. Not overly fancy, but with everything you’ll need for one of the most memorable times of your life.
Site amenities include an outdoor gas grill, patio furniture, and a fire pit. The saltwater pool is solar panel heated. With prior arrangements, boaters have access to the deep water dock and mooring located on the east shore in a sheltered cove. If you choose to bring your own boat it can be launched directly from the beach in front. There is plenty of room to park two vehicles as well as a boat trailer.
If you haven't already, take a moment to view the photos. They only hint at the experience you'll have when you book your next getaway at The Point.

Our stay at the Point was just what we were looking for, relaxing, quiet, fantastic view. We appreciated having access to the pool and fire pit! Great seafood restaurants were not far away. Communication with Sheri was timely. We would definitely consider visiting again!

The Point
The house was comfortable and clean, and my family enjoyed the access to the pool (even though it was a little cool during our stay) and the canoe. There is an incredible view of the beach where we searched tide pools for crabs, shells, etc. It was a quiet and beautiful place to stay, and we would love to go again sometime.
Views were incredible. Location was approx 2 miles on a dirt road from the main road. It was nice to walk every day up the road with very little traffic, and what traffic there was, cars drove very slowly.
We did not use the pool, but people on the other cottage used it every day.

Thanks so much, Nelson ! I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the views, as well as the location! We'd be happy to host your return anytime!
We loved this home! It had everything we needed, including easy access for my elderly, limited mobility mom. There is a short step up/down to transition from the back deck & the driveway, and besides doorway transitions, no other obstacles. This worked very well for her.
The views are outstanding! It's very quiet. We enjoyed the fire pit with some local friends, and fed the crabs our lobster shells, per house instructions (that was fun!). Would def recommend this house - spacious and warm! We had a great time!
This property was gorgeous, very comfortable, and very well appointed with everything one could need! The Point seaside view from the main porch was awesome! We were very entertained by the sea activity! The saltwater heated pool was wonderful, we used it a few times!
Our dog Zuzu was so at home, only tied when we were inside and she was out. Otherwise, she was with us, on the front octagonal perch or just loose keeping watch over us! Wonderful place for dogs! Even cousin Jake loved it there.
We have rented in Harpswell a number of times, love the area! But this property was by far our best yet! We spent 95%of our week right there!
Jack was easy to work with and was very accommodating with whatever we needed.
We would highly recommend and would love to come back!
Amazing location with picture perfect views- zen-like
My stay here was fabulous! The description of this property is very accurate. The views are amazing and can’t fully be captured in photos. The deck affords a perfect view of sunset and these sunsets (I witnessed 7) were gorgeous. No two sunsets were alike but they all were breathtaking. The property was well maintained and management very communicative. The pool was well maintained, the decking was in need of update but the pool itself was kept clean with plenty of floats and toys available for use. For indoor entertainment there was a TV with Roku and plenty of puzzles and board games. There was a fire pit with wood available. The gas grill was large and was like new, very clean, with all grilling tools at the ready. The house was so close to the water. The inlet there had many tide pools to explore and rocks to climb. The house is at the end of a long private road that was easy to find. Although there were many houses around, it felt secluded and was very quiet. Overall, it was an amazing stay. As I was driving away I was already planning on when I could get back! That kind of serene location is a rare gem and was zen like.
Even better than the pictures and description. House and pool were clean and well-stocked with the basics. Front porch with ocean views and sounds made the week outstanding!
This was the perfect place for our one vacation since the pandemic began. We along with my parents (and likely everyone else) we’re quite burned out after the past year and a half, and so we’re craving a true getaway while still being convenient to Portland in case I went into labor. This place far exceeded any expectations we had when picturing an ideal getaway spot. The pictures don’t even come close to capturing how amazing the view and surroundings are. We arrived to a rainbow, sun-shower, monarch butterflies everywhere, and 2 bald eagles flying by, perching in a nearby tree. Just amazing. Our 2 year old loved exploring everything about the property - we even used the pool numerous times despite chilly air a few days. Beds are comfy, there’s plenty of space to gather or spread out for some alone time, and the kitchen had everything we needed.
Only suggestions for improvement are some wd40 on the bedroom doors so they don’t squeak when you open them, and if there’s a way to fight the fruit flies and deer flies (they were there when we arrived) that would go a long way. We made traps and kept everything put away and that helped a lot during the week. The one major drawback was construction happening every weekday next door, which shattered the pristine magical quiet we so enjoyed the first 2 days. Doubtful this will be an issue often, just a bummer it fell during our week. Naps, quiet time, reading uninterrupted etc. just couldn’t happen during the days. Will always make sure to ask about surrounding property work in the future no matter where we go.
All in all it’s an exceptional place, like no other. Truly magical, and we will happily stay again in the future.
This property is amazing. The location is private, with incredible vistas, and the home has everything you could ever need. We loved our time here and wished it could have been for much longer. We would love to come back. 5 Stars
We can't say enough wonderful things about our stay at The Point. Wonderful house, spectacular setting, delightful pool, fabulous location and great hosts. This was our second visit and we are ready to book our third! The kids and grownups alike had the best time. Thank you Dostie family for letting us enjoy your lovely property for the week!
I'm just returning from a glorious stay at the Point, hosted by Jack and Nancy. We were a family of 6 adults in search of peace, quiet and tranquility --- and goodness we received all 3 in spades! The view is INCREDIBLE and there's plenty of space on the property to spread out (in the yard, on the deck, at the pool or on the beach). We also brought our rescue pup Gracie Jane and she had a ball! I HIGHLY recommend staying at the Point and I'll absolutely be back as soon as humanly possible! Cheers, Mc
My husband and I travelled to The Point with our three daughters in early October. We were amazed by the tremendous natural beauty surrounding Jack's family home. The location of the property at the tip of Gun Point Penninsula is unparalleled in terms of beauty and solitude. Our daughters loved the chance to search for crabs, clams, and oysters on the beach and swim (with wetsuits) in the large pool next-door. We loved the opportunity to stargaze and make smores at the fire pit. The house was comfortable, well-equipped and clean. Truly a magical location, highly recommend to all. Thanks to the Dostie family for allowing visitors the chance to experience your beautiful property.
we enjoyed everything about this house. The location was perfect. Quiet, secluded, and fully equipped.
As I was making coffee my first morning at the house, I spotted a Moose out the window! While I understand this isn't common, it made the whole experience just unbelievable. We watched Moose walk out onto the rocks and swim across the water.
We cooked Lobster for dinner one night and the house was perfectly equipped with everything. The grill was perfect for other meals. We sat by the fire pit most nights and enjoyed the moonlight over the water. Highly recommend this house for a family getaway. Wifi was perfect for children doing online school also.
We spent a week in this most amazing property. We have been fortunate to travel the world and visit amazing places... but who knew that this house at the end of a dirt road offered the most spectacular spot we've ever seen. We enjoyed the lovely coast of Maine, its sea, its fauna, its big blue sky. For that alone, there is no way I could rate our stay less than 5 stars.
Why isn't paradise perfect? One main reason we chose this property was the availability of a pool which we presumed was private as there were no indication on the VRBO app to suggest otherwise. This is super important for us as we are strictly adherent to social distancing. On arrival we learned the pool was shared with a nearby cottage. It turns out it was listed on the website and in the lease agreement that Jack shared with us. We notified VRBO of the discrepancy. Ultimately it was not an issue as the pool could not tear us away from the rest of the amazing things to do including just chilling at the beach.
Other notes: perfectly comfortable clean house in need of rejuvenation, great broader area to explore, loved canoeing to nearby Oak island but would have liked to have a kayak. We met Jack and Diane who were great hosts, welcoming us with a nice bottle of wine, cheese, crackers, mustard dip... The house had everything we needed and more (large supply of wood for amazing bonfires at night).
In summary, we spent the most amazing week in this most amazing place. We are certainly coming back.
An amazing house with a beautiful ocean view. No need for tv with the pool, tidepool, deck & balcony
The house had everything. What a great experience with a helpful owner very close. Private setting. Something for everyone to do. Swim, wade, canoe, relax, great kitchen and bath. Comfortable for our group of 8. Cant say enough about how lovely it was to wake up oceanside and look out at the ocean.
a special place - per prior reviews, warm clean pool, fun fire pit, and mostly spectacular wrap around views, not fancy but its about being outside not in
Amazing getaway. Our 3 and 5 year olds loved the pool, beach, canoeing, and exploring the rocks (as did we). Super peaceful sitting on the porch or in the yard overlooking over the ocean. Great grill, kitchen had everything we needed and more. Highly recommend.
We had the most amazing week at The Point. The kids were busy all day between the tidal pools, climbing on the rocks, canoeing, swimming in the beautiful pool and playing in the yard. The views are absolutely spectacular and hard to describe. The house was wonderful, comfortable and perfect for our two families. We also did wonderful nearby hikes. The owner was helpful and nearby in case of any questions. We didn’t want to leave. We cannot wait to return again! Thank you.
The house was just as listed but better. Watching the tides change, the clouds roll in, the lobstermen at work was Maine magic at its best. It was one of the best vacations ever. My family thanked so much for finding this place. It was top drawer all the way.
We had a great time at The Point. It's a very beautiful spot in mid coast Maine. Our hosts were very friendly and we appreciated the lovely welcoming gifts.
We rented this lovely home over July 4th for a family get together. We had 6 adults and 2 children. We were very lucky as the weather was perfect. The house had everything you needed to enjoy Maine. It has a 180 degree view of breathtaking scenery. We used the pool everyday..it was well maintained and solar heated. We would definitely stay at The Point again. We had a wonderful vacation and hated to leave.
Comfortable house, beautiful setting, great local attractions ! But the pool makes it perfect for a multi-generational extended family. We look forward to next year.
We had a wonderful time at this house at the end of Gun Point. Wonderful for exploring the tide pools and if you’re brave enough (like my kids) swimming in the pool in early June. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

About the host
Hosted by Sheri Blackstone
This gorgeous piece of land is now owned and maintained by the three eldest brothers of the Dostie family- Paul, Jack and Dan. They all live on various spots along the peninsula.
"We are so happy that you are able to enjoy The Point as it truly is a special place."
Why they chose this property
The Gun Point peninsula has a rich history beginning with Native Americans, later including pirates, bootleggers and smugglers. There was also abundant industry here for a time. At the turn of the century, Dan’s Ice Pond (a freshwater pond located more inland on the peninsula) was created to harvest ice. Ice was shipped all along the East Coast as far as Florida. During the Colonial War supplies were blocked by the British; subsequently a “salt works” was built on Gun Point Creek to process sea salt. Since then, the peninsula has served as a docking area for lobster fishing, clam and mussel harvesting, seaweed harvesting and a fabulous vacation spot. In the early 1960’s, Jules and Yvette Dostie with partners and friends, bought the entirety of Gun Point; built the road and developed the land.
What makes this property unique
Located at the very tip of the Gun Point peninsula, you can experience spectacular views that will make you fall in love with this unique place. While enjoying morning coffee or dining al fresco on the front deck, you can watch lobster boats getting their daily catch, and sailboats on their way to Boothbay Harbor. It is an exceptional place where you can enjoy the pool, walk the beach, collect sea glass and shells, or just relax and enjoy the summer days.
