Individual barn overlooking open fields, dog friendly with open fire
Swallow Barn is a converted barn separate from but adjacent to our very special 16th century timber framed house. We have converted the barn to a high specification, taking into account our favourite bits of all the holiday lets we have stayed in over the years. We aim to create a sense of cosiness without loss of practicality. The barn affords lovely views over the field and is light and airy. In winter months the wood burner adds a welcoming glow to curl up with.
Swallow Barn's unique feature is that it is in a very special position overlooking open fields with no need to interact with others if you don’t wish to do so when in the property.
Whilst no property can be described as ‘Covid-free’ we adhere to guidance by providing an enhanced set of cleaning standards and have invested in additional equipment and time in order to do this. For this reason we have changed our minimum stays from 2 to 4 nights.
Swallow Barn has its' own garden which is pretty secure and which is a haven for wildlife. We commonly see a variety of birds and deer walk through our meadow and on occasion a barn owl.
We are big dog lovers and have always had rescue dogs. We are happy to accept well behaved dogs. We have a cat who is dog friendly to dogs who know how to treat him!
Dog guests will be able to share the use of our 2acre field behind the house. Please note owners will need to bring their own dog bed and bedding.

This is our fourth stay at Swallow Barn and we loved every minute.Comfy surroundings, quite area, plenty of wildlife but good eateries and services nearby.
Lovely clean property, everything you need, pub is 25 min walk, fish and chips shop 10 mins, bury st Edmunds 30 mins, diss with aldi and Tesco 20 mins.plenty to do in the area. Would like to return one day. Thank you.
Perfect little cottage in a beautiful, quiet spot with lots of wildlife around. Enclosed garden was perfect for our dogs. The dogs are made very welcome.
The owners are very friendly and helpful. Just perfect.
Rosie and Richard are two of the kindest, most thoughtful, dog loving people you could ever wish to meet and this is reflected in the quality, care and attention to detail that goes into creating Swallow Barn as a superb dog and human friendly experience. You don't often find a 'dog friendly' stay that is truly dog friendly, not just dog tolerant, that's also comfortable and enjoyable for humans too - Swallow Barn is excellent for both.On arrival we received a warm welcome from Rosie, and I was thrilled that there were towels, dog treats, toys, dog tags, poop bags, and a good quality throw allowing for the dogs to be on the sofa. I was grateful for the separate freezer in the store for my frozen dog food which made life even easier. The enclosed garden was a haven for my two dogs who loved mooching about and watching and listening to the abundant wildlife nearby, as did I. And we had access to the field beyond to explore more. There were plenty of footpaths nearby which were accessible, with dog poop bins conveniently located along the lane. To top it off, when I unexpectedly needed to visit the Out of Hours GP service, Rosie jumped into action to organise dog care (thanks Richard), and she drove me to the surgery, which I was sooo grateful for. The only problem was we were having such a laugh on the way that it hurt even more! Thank you for creating this wonderful space and sharing it with us. Rosie's art on the walls was another nice touch. Will be back.
Loved our stay, the barn is delightful. Renovated beautifully and it contents are of the highest quality. Not over fussy, so brilliant if travelling with a dog. Our hosts respected our privacy, and gave us great advice on the area.
Excellent very clean spacious one bedroom converted barn. Kitchen/dining room, lounge and large bedroom and wall in shower room. Great fully enclosed garden for dogs. Everything you need is provided. Rosie and Richard are available close by if needed. Have a lovely holiday 5* plus. Have already booked for next year
Big garde
What can I say was one of the nicest places we have stayed in . We enjoyed our stay so much that we are already looking to book for next year . Lots of nice little touches and so lovely to have a wood burner for the windy chilly evenings. Made our Christmas that little bit more special.
This is our 3rd sty at the property. Each time we return there is something new and improved. The owners keep it very clean and well presented. We feel like it’s home from home and look forward to returning again. The area is full of footpaths and easy walks. A very peaceful location and the enclosed garden at the property is a bonus for the dog! Highly recommended
Excellent location. Lovely converted barn with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Spacious and comfortable. Fantastic large garden. Rosie and Richard are nearby for anything you need but not intrusive.

As good as before
Another lovely weekend at Swallow Barn. A tranquil hideaway a 5 star stay.
Thanks to Richard and Rosie.
A lovely barn conversion set in quiet countryside.
Cosy and clean with thoughtful touches for us and our dog.
We love the log burner and open fields to the rear of the property.
We had a lovely stay at Swallow Barn. Duggie, our goldendoodle, loved the garden and observing the muntjac deer and pheasants that visited early mornings. The barn was cosy and comfy with a wonderfully hot shower and the peace and quiet was calming for the soul. The stars at night were so pretty - like a quilt of chandeliers because there is no light/traffic pollution. We had to navigate the country lanes before reaching the main road but we were fine with this and for the most part they were quiet. Our hosts were on hand if we needed them but they left us to enjoy our mini break.
Excellent property, very clean lovely comfortable bed and linen and nice big towels. Everything you need is included. Owners Richard and Rosie are very friendly. Dog friendly our labrador loved the garden and meadow. Highly recommend.
We were all made very welcome on arrival with many thoughtful touches; even dog treats and a holiday dog tag. The barn was extremely well equipped and very clean. Fully equipped kitchen,
WiFi, Freeview, etc etc We could happily have stayed much longer. Beautiful surroundings, peaceful and relaxing. A wonderful place to visit.
Swallow Barn is a great place to get away from it all - tranquil, warm and cosy. So many little touches that make you feel welcome from the start. The weather during our stay was fairly wild, wet and windy, but with a comfy sofa to relax on by the log burner - we were content! All rooms were much bigger than we had imagined, and the bedroom was light and airy, and the bed very comfortable. We slept so well with no traffic noise or light pollution. Thank you Rosie and Richard for an amazing stay - we will be back!
We had a great time at Swallow Barn. Wear a lovely conversion, much of it done by Richard, our host, a very experienced carpenter. The barn lacked for nothing, and Meila, our Collie was very happy with all the room outside for her to run free. We found lots of places of interest to Visit , and the weather was superb. We even had deer in the far garden, little owls, mother duck
with 7 babies, rabbits, hares. Do go there, you’ll love it. Brian
This is the second time we have stayed here. An extremely clean and well presented property. Lovely secure garden for dogs and lots of footpaths /walks from door. Some nice villages nearby to walk to. It’s perfect for relaxing. Comfy bed, great shower and TV too. Helpful but non intrusive hosts which is ideal. We have booked again for next year! Thank you
We all had an absolutely wonderful time. The dogs were in their elements….. we all did not want to come home.. it felt like home… will definitely be back… very soon.. thank you Rosie & Richard…. Love Julie. Rich, Lola & Wilson x
Perfect base for visiting Suffolk. Bury St Edmunds and Thetford forest not far to drive. Great for our dogs having the private garden which they loved. Accommodation is good with some nice touches. Bed very comfortable. Kitchen well equipped, although shame no microwave. Shower lovely but floor slippery when wet.
We tended to go out during the day with our dogs and have the evening back at the barn. Internet not great so unable to watch anything other than free view television which was a shame.
We really enjoyed our stay and would return again if back in Suffolk.

Why they chose this property
Thank you for your interest in Swallow Barn situated in rural Suffolk. A one bedroom holiday let for 2 people (and children < 24 months), designed for real country lovers and those seeking a much needed retreat from the pressures of daily life.
Swallow Barn is an individual, listed barn in the heart of the Suffolk countryside in the village of Wyverstone. We are based approximately 20 mins from the historic town of Bury St Edmunds (recently voted one of the most dog-friendly places to visit in the country) and Stowmarket with good rail links to London and other major cities. The impressive Suffolk coastline is also only an hour's drive away. There is a village shop and pub a 5 minute drive away or a 15-20 minute walk.
Having stayed at many a holiday let over the years, we know how hard it can be to find decent accommodation that combines a sense of cosiness with practicality. We have therefore tried to include all our favourite things about holiday lets into just one place. Imagine lying in a blissfully comfortable bed whilst looking up at the stars or, sitting in a garden overlooking a peaceful meadow, watching the swallows duck and dive in the summer months, truly magical.
Being dog lovers with a history of taking rescues, we have never felt comfortable with leaving them behind when we go on holiday. For this reason we are happy to welcome well behaved canine friends to the barn. The barn comes with its own enclosed garden and guests can also enjoy shared access to our field overlooking the property which is perfect for ball games.
We look forward to welcoming you to this special place.
