About this property

Westgate Cottage (Thornham), Thornham, Norfolk

Westgate Cottage is a wonderful holiday home with a fabulous garden in a great position, tucked away quietly from the road in the very popular coastal village of Thornham. With supremely comfortable beds and four bathrooms, it offers lots of privacy and space for larger families or a group of friends.

The cottage has a great kitchen leading through to spacious dining room, with conservatory off that and a good sized sitting room with two three seater sofas beyond the dining room. There are four bedrooms; two doubles, one single and one family room with a double and single bed, three en-suites and a family bathroom with cloakroom, making it easy to get ready when there's a full house. The house is comfortable and easy to live in and very practical too with solid oak floors throughout the kitchen and reception rooms.

This large single storey family-friendly holiday home comes with a fabulous enclosed large garden, lovely and private, laid mainly to lawn with mature trees and shrubs, making it a perfect place to spend sunny afternoons relaxing and long evenings catching the last of the sun's rays. With two terraces, one at the rear of the property and one set within the main garden area, and garden furniture and gas barbecue there's no excuse for not dining al fresco.

The cottage is within easy walking distance of all the excellent pubs and restaurants in the village, including the ever popular Thornham Deli, The Orange Tree, The Lifeboat Inn and The Chequers and at the further end of the village there is Eric's Fish and Chips, Gurney's fishmongers and the fabulous Drove Orchard's farm shop with facilities to pick your own fruit.

This property is also available as a sleeps four option using two of the bedrooms, listed as Westgate Cottage (4) (Thornham).

A great place to stay

My wife and I booked this place for a week to celebrate my 50th Birthday. For the initial weekend we had 5 friends stay over. There was room for everyone and we loved the entertaining area was separate from all the bedrooms, so those who wanted to retire earlier were not disturbed. The rooms were a good size, comfy and everyone had their own WC. This is the best equipped holiday rental property we have stayed in. It did get a bit cold and the heating took a while to warm the place up, but the wood burner got well used and the lounge provided a great place to socialise and warm whilst the other areas warmed up. Although we never made use of it the rear garden it looks very well kept and had we booked in the summer, would be a lovely place to sit and relax after a long day enjoying the local surroundings. We would love to book this again.

A Wonderful Christmas Break by the sea

West gate Cottage is a welcoming, cosy, friendly, inviting place to stay. The location is fantastic. Thornham has two pubs, a fabulous restaurant and a deli. It’s walking distance to the sea and everything you could want for a holiday. We had days with long walks on the local beaches followed by delightful evenings in front of the fire or having a meal at one of the local pubs. The cottage was exceptionally well stocked and had everything you could need. Norfolk Hideaways has decorated it with Christmas decorations and it was such a relaxing stay.

Good stay, but not as good as previously

We stayed in the cottage 10 months ago and had a really good stay. Clean, spacious, well equipped, great location, lovely garden. However on this occasion there was an ant problem (not good when you need to put ant powder down and you have a 2 and 4 year old) and we found the bathrooms to be in a poorer condition and in need of refurbishment.
Response from VrboOwner on 25 May 2022
Thank you for your review on Westgate Cottage in Thornham. We are glad that you had a good stay and you found the majority of your stay enjoyable. We will be speaking to the owners regarding the ant issue as often at this time of year, they can come out to play in times when we don't want them to. We will also pass on your comments regarding the bathrooms with the hopes that they will consider refurbishment if they so desire it. This all being said, we are glad to hear that you had a good week and we welcome you back to Norfolk in the near future.

Great cottage

Very comfortable and well equipped cottage. Having taken a 1 and 3 year old we were very impressed with the children’s toys and books in the cottage. The kitchen was very well equipped. Useful entrance lobby and ulitily room. Lovely well cared for rear garden and large driveway to fit 3/4 cars. Having stayed in Thornham before we knew there are plenty of places to eat and plenty of beaches nearby. My only query is that I’m not sure how you can use the trunk bed in the single room as you cannot pull the lower bed out and still open the door. We have booked the cottage again for next summer.

Definitely be returning

We visited the cottage last week and all we can say is wow! The cleanliness was above and beyond the layout was fantastic especially having young children. The kitchen was completely stocked with everything you need. The house was fully equipped my young grandchildren providing them with games, toys and films. The beds were absolutely amazing (so comfortable) location was good and close to all amenities needed, 5 minutes drive to Hunstanton beach front. Will most definitely re book to stay again

Westgate cottage

Could not fault it in any way . We really enjoyed our stay and the garden was beautiful and quiet. We did think a bench at the front of the property would be handy for weary walkers to sit on while taking boots off. Lovely to have a big freezer.

Perfect for our stay in North Norfolk

What a wonderful cottage everything you could possibly need inside and a lovely garden to enjoy as well. We had four generations in our party ranging from a 3 year old to an 83 year old and everyone thought the place was amazing. Would highly recommend it .

Lovely setting and location, well equipped spacious family cottage.

Well equipped spacious cottage with a lovely secluded garden, plenty of room for the children to run round. Also good to have a large family gas barbeque. Very quiet location with a shared private drive leading to the property with plenty of parking for three cars. In our party was an allergy sufferer, this is one of the reasons we choose this cottage as there was no dogs and hard floors in main living quarters. All beds were very comfortable and the cottage was very clean on arrival. There are three good pubs serving food within 5minutes walking distance and a café deli shop. I would recommend this cottage.

Perfect in every way!

We fell in love with Westgate Cottage the first time we stayed there. We have stayed a further two times and, although I'm sure there are many lovely properties in Thornham, we wouldn't consider staying anywhere else because, for us, it's just perfect. It is a thoughtfully designed, spacious property, furnished and equipped to a very high standard. It is well maintained and spotlessly clean. The large garden has a good sized patio for outside eating and plenty of lawn for little ones to play. Each of our visits have been over Easter and the garden provides the ideal place for an Easter egg hunt!

Good weekend break

The cottage was large enough and more than comfortable for our family to be together for a special birthday. The welcome wine and crisps was a lovely gesture and the facilities provided were excellent.

Lovely village and the cottage was easy to find. On opening the door the freshness and space was a great feeling. The local pubs where lovely and very friendly. Lovely walks around the area , although the weather wasn't very good. The curry night at the farm shop on Wednesday night was lovely and a good price . Overall the holiday was great .

Great accommodation in an excellent setting

This is a high quality cottage in a great location within Thornham.Spotlessly clean, Beautiful garden, spacious rooms providing an excellent stay. We had a problem with some of the doors whilst there which after a couple of calls to the agent was rectified quite quickly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to others, particularly groups of friends or multi generation holidays

Lovely cottage in a perfect location

We had a wonderful stay at Westgate. There was plenty of room for 2 families and the cottage was so well equipped. The children loved the toys and games in the conservatory and the garden was an amazing space to relax in. Thornham is a great location for a holiday - lots to do on your doorstep and wonderful places to eat. We will be back!

A great time had by all

We were an extended family aged 5 yrs to 78 yrs.We all enjoyed the lovely property and garden. The weather was very hit and miss but we managed to amuse ourselves. We especially enjoyed bird watching in the garden and a visit from a stoat and two toads. The children made use of the books and games. Westgate cottage was lovely and clean,it was well equipped in the kitchen. The bedrooms were very comfortable with en suite facilities.Situated in Thornham we were central for visiting other towns and villages. All too soon our stay came to an end. We have used Norflok Hideaways for several holidays now and have never been let down with the quality of the properties.

Wonderful

Absolutely wonderful house and garden, we didn't want to leave. We all would like to live here forever. The house is large enough for big families but cosy enough to make you all feel welcome. The garden was really great and secure for our 3 grandchildren to play in, they absolutely loved it. The TV in every bedroom was a bonus as it wasn't mentioned in the details. There was everthing you could ever need with extra touches which we much appreciated. You won't be disappointed if you stay here. The kids took over the conservatory and loved the toys and books. There was 3 families in our party but with all the bedrooms and bathrooms we all had plenty of space. Great house we hope to go back again soon. :-)
