Peaceful Getaway

The property is amazing! Beauty every where you look. So peaceful and relaxing. John and Ann were wonderful hosts. John helped carry our luggage to the cottage. They left us a bottle of wine and cheese and crackers upon check-in. Very helpful with things to do in the area. Lovely little tree top cottage. Convenient to area attractions. Would stay here again in the future.

Wonderful!!

We had a wonderful time at the Treetop Cottage. Beautiful views of the bay, along with lovely gardens surrounding the homes helped us relax from our long drive. The cottage was comfortable and had everything we needed. It was so nice to return to after our adventures during the day! We highly recommend. If we ever get back to Maine, we would definitely stay again!

A Week in Paradise

Everything about this property was amazing! The hosts were always quick to respond before our arrival and made sure we didn’t need anything during our visit. They have everything you need there and the views are stunning. We felt so relaxed and comfortable during our stay and definitely plan to return soon. We sat on the deck a lot and just enjoyed nature. Definitely a 10/10 experience!

Tree house with a view

It was a beautiful, clean, tree house with gardens, and beach front views. The hosts greeted us and left fresh flowers and cheese, fruit and wine. We felt very special. They also took us out in their boat which we will always remember. We would stay here again. It was wonderful.

Wonderful Stay

John and Anne are wonderful hosts who went above and beyond to make us feel so welcome. The property is even more incredible in person. You can tell that so much thought went into designing the cottage and main house. Loved having dinner on the deck and spending evenings on the screened-in porch overlooking Cadillac mtn. Great location out of the way, but still accessible to Acadia. Really look forward to returning-thanks for everything, John!

Fantastic cottage and host!

This cottage exceeded our expectations. From the moment we pulled up and were welcomed by our gracious host, John, to our last morning cup of coffee on the deck, we were able to enjoy and relax. We HIGHLY recommend John’s cottage and we plan to return!

Lovely cottage and views

As our second time staying here, the views do not get old! Such a wonderful home base from our trip. The cottage is so comfy and had everything we needed. The deck, the screen porch, the deck by the water! Already planning our next stay! The hosts are amazing, friendly and full of good information about the area hiking and places to eat. You will not be disappointed about anything staying here. We miss it already!

Solitude in Paradise

This cottage is appropriately referred to as in the tree tops, close to the main house yet very private. Very beautiful and extremely gracious of the host to allow full use of his property walking through the gardens and walking down to the water. John is nearby either in person or by phone to support you and whatever you need for your trip. The bottom line is would I stay here again and the answer is yes and that’s all you need to know

A trip to remember

My partner, Samuel and I were more than pleased with everything about John’s lovely cottage in the woods. It has everything you may need, and is a short drive from many great hiking and food spots. Samuel and I would occasionally see John and his golden retriever, Brandy, in passing during our stay. He is an amazingly knowledgeable and kind host, and Brandy could not have been more friendly. We could not have imagined a better place to stay while visiting Acadia. We hope to return in the future.

Second wonderful stay!

This was our second trip to John’s place and it was just as lovely as the first time. We enjoyed the screened in porch and incredible view of the mountains and ocean. John left us some wine, cheese, fruit, and crackers and helped us with our bags. We had a relaxing week hiking, visiting Bar Harbor, and just hanging out at home. We were even able to see tons of fireworks from the porch on the 4th of July! There’s also a new deck and dock for kayaking and exploring low tide. We had a lovely stay and would recommend staying here highly!

Heaven on earth

This was our third time staying at Treetops and each time it gets better. John is a wonderful host, ensuring that you have everything you need. He also took us on a wonderful boat cruise for an afternoon. It’s far enough from the crowds but close enough to the action. There is so much to see and do that you can never be bored. I look forward to our next visit.

Best VRBO Experience Ever

We were heading to Maine / Acadia National Park for the first time and were fortunate enough to find this absolute gem of a property and the best hosts we’ve ever had. The cottage is in the treetops of the Schoodic Peninsula across from Bar Harbor, just down from the main house. Breathtaking views in all weather. We dined in quite a bit to relax in the peaceful serenity of the 2nd floor screened in porch. Comfortable bed, all the amenities you need, and a host that goes above and beyond to make sure you have the trip of a lifetime. Kayaks onsite for your use plus recommendations for great hiking and biking trails. Thank you John and Ann for one of our best trips ever!

Amazing view of Acadia/Bar Harbor

Our stay here was amazing!! John is a great host (with the sweetest puppy co-host), and the cottage is a great place to get away from the crowds and relax. You can see Cadillac Mountain and Bar Harbor across the Bay. There is a small walk down to the boat launch with kayaks there to see the Bay. Kayaking to the small island right across the water was a highlight. Although it was foggy and buggy the first night, my boyfriend and I had a wonderful trip and plan on coming back as soon as we can!

Best Maine Getaway

The house was the best choice for us. It had great views and was set up nicely. John & Carolyn go above and beyond to welcome you and provided everything you could need. It was a home away from home. The location was in close proximity to several sites (Schoodic Point was our favorite). We’ll be returning one day! Nothing negative to say it was perfect there!

Wonderful Lakeside Cottage

What a lovely, spacious retreat for my husband and I as we explored the Acadia area! We loved the view looking down through the trees to the bay from all three levels. It is much quieter on the Schoodic peninsula than on the main island, but the cottage is still only about 50 minutes from the hikes and sights near Bar Harbor. We also loved going to Schoodic Point to watch the waves. John and Ann graciously took us for a delightful ride in the bay on their personal boat. They really thought of every amenity we might need, as well as the welcoming touch of flowers, fruit, cheese, crackers and wine. They were available when needed but gave us privacy as well. Their insights and information of the area were also helpful.

Outstanding Place To Stay

Wow, what a fantastic place to stay during our visit to the Northeastern shore of Maine! Everything about the place was first class, starting with John, the owner! He formally greeted us and helped us carry our luggage to our phenomenal retreat in the woods overlooking the beauty of his land and the ocean in the near distance! This was a short drive to Bar Harbor and many other scenic towns and Acadia National Forest! We were here 6 nites and utilized every minute of our time to enjoy the sites, the hiking, the FOOD and great place to stay. I could go on and on about be! I want to thank John again for the welcoming basket of treats, and the fabulous and very informative boat ride! AND, I can’t forget our “official” BRANDY the dog! It made us want to find a dog just like her! Thanks again, John for everything!

Unique relaxing experience!

We (3 of us- my husband & adult son) totally enjoyed our stay at the unique Tree Top Cottage. The cottage was tastefully decorated with many special touches from fresh flowers, telescope to view the stars and a well stocked kitchen. We loved relaxing on the screened porch (no bugs), enjoying the view of the water & Acadia , after a full day of hiking & exploring the surrounding area. We would definitely recommend this property.

Best Place Ever

So we should preface this to say we never write reviews. But I guess that is because we have never stayed here before. This place is amazing and has an incredible view. The hosts are attentive to all your needs and respectful of your privacy. This part of Acadia is a gem after spending time on the bar harbor side with the crowds. It is quiet and peaceful. Loved our time here and hope to come back to relax again some day.

Acadia getaway

Everything about the stay was to good for words. John and Carolyn were just the best host ever, and puppy brandy. The property was better in person than in the pictures. John and Carolyn had everything ready for us and gave us great ideas of what to try to do and see in the area. We needed more than a week to take it all in. Acadia was beautiful and if someone is thinking about going this would be the perfect place to stay. If not I would definitely add it to a bucket list of places to go.

John made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived complete with the bottle of wine, snacks and fruit. He was a great source of information on dining, sightseeing, wild life and hiking and was instantly available when we had questions about the house and beyond. The house is a gem-- beautiful, tasteful, comfortable and equipped with everything for cooking. The boat trip on French bay was an unexpected bonus. Thank you, John, for a great week. Bob&Gary

Sweet Retreat

I spent a week at Treetops Cottage two years ago, just as the pandemic was at its height and decided to return for two weeks this year and to share this special place with an old college friend. It was just as wonderful as I remembered. John is the perfect host, helpful and full of useful information about the local area. My friend and I spent a lot of hiking, birding, eating delicious seafood, and watching the leaves turn. The cottage is comfortable and well-equipped with views from every window. I'm already planning to go back.

Couldn’t be better

This property was located with views of Frenchmen’s Bay. We had a number of meals and drinks on the deck early in the morning and evenings. The property was well equipped and spotless. John was a most gracious host as was his dog Brandy. It is a great location, less than an hour to Bar Harbor and Acadia NP. Only minutes from the Schoodic area of the park and Winter Harbor. Gouldsboro is much less hectic than Dessert Island and we really enjoyed the quiet solitude. There was easy access to numerous restaurants and Lobster pounds. Our week there was fantastic and went by much too fast. Highly recommended.

Dream Vacation!

John’s Treetops Cottage is all that is promised and more. From his personal greeting (including the tail-wagging welcome from Brandy the golden retriever) right up to a private tour of the bays on his vintage boat, it was a perfect vacation. The cottage is absolutely beautiful and felt just like home away from home. This is one of those rare VRBO gems that is even better than its photos…the cottage itself and surrounding scenery are just so lovely. We had everything we needed, and we so enjoyed all the amenities including a kayak trip out onto the waters of the bay right out front. We enjoyed the screened in balcony during a rainstorm, and the outside deck in the sunshine. The place really feels like a private retreat. This is truly a special place and we hope to return someday soon.

Why they chose this property

This property immediately impressed us, and so obviously met every criteria for a home on the Maine coast: VIEW!! An amazing panoramic view of Frenchman Bay, the waterfront of the property, the beautiful mountains of Acadia, the lights of Bar Harbor at night, and the charm of the Schoodic Peninsula, with a spectacular section of Acadia Ntl. Park in our neighborhood, for biking, hiking, paddling, and exploring the many villages and arts activities.

What makes this property unique

A short drive if you want to visit Mt. Desert Island and Bar Harbor, or just 15 minutes to Winter Harbor: restaurants, galleries, shopping, and the beautiful Schoodic Section of Acadia Ntl. Park.
The cottage is very private, roomy, completely and tastefully decorated and supplied, and quiet, surrounded by perennial gardens and 2 outdoor spaces, both with gorgeous views.
