About this property

Idyllic Lakefront Retreat--The French Rooster

Only 2.5 hours from Chicago or Detroit, this quiet lakefront year-round retreat on Upper Scott Lake offers the perfect setting for a family or group of friends looking to relax, play, and reconnect in an idyllic setting. This large 3 bedroom/2 bath home on 2 wooded acres is bright and airy and is tastefully decorated in a Country French theme. Enjoy stunning views of the lake and beautifully landscaped yard from a comfortable chair in the large great room or from the huge deck under the massive old oak trees, and watch the sun rise on the water from the pier. In the evenings enjoy a campfire and the star-filled night sky at the lakefront fire pit. The large family room on the lower level is perfect for watching movies or playing games, and the sun room provides a quiet place to curl up and read a book or write in your journal.
The fully equipped kitchen is designed for casual cooking or preparing gourmet meals as it is equipped with an all new stainless steel double oven and 5 burner gas range, microwave, large refrigerator, and dishwasher. Dine at the large antique French table that seats 8, on the screened- in porch, or "al fresco" at the large custom built country table on the spacious deck overlooking the grounds and lake.
This is truly a four-season retreat: it is equally beautiful as the new growth emerges in the spring, in full summer splendor, as the colors change in fall, and the quiet snow covers the ground in winter.
This is a smoke-free home so your cooperation is appreciated and expected.
Weekly rates are for 7 nights. Check-in is Saturday at 3 pm, check-out is Saturday at 11 am.

We Love This Place
First time we’ve stayed here in the winter but it was just peaceful (actually more so) and nearly as beautiful. Sunrises and sunsets over the lake, when we could see it but we had a great stay as always. The home is beautiful and spacious and pet friendly, which means we don’t have to board our baby. Jill, as always, was helpful and responsive. We love this place and look forward to our next stay.

Beautiful/Peaceful spot
What a beautiful property. We had a wonderful stay. If there is anything I’d suggest, it would be to perhaps update the sofa/chair upholstery in the main room, add a Smart TV in the basement and refurbish the dock to allow for sitting/relaxation. The property is close to Fennville (Crane’s Pie Pantry, Fenn Valley Vineyard), Saugatuck (Oval Beach and plenty of shopping), Douglas (Summerhouse Lavender Farm) and Holland (Apothecary Gift Shop, Boatwerks restaurant) which is a big plus. BUT, it’s far enough away to get away from the crowds.

Total Relaxation!!
I stayed at “The Rooster” last July/August for 4+ weeks. It was a great home base to explore the area. Sat on the dock every morning with my coffee watching a Bald Eagle catching fish. The evening dock time was perfect for watching the stars. I enjoyed watching multiple families enjoying the lake on their boats. Saugatuck and South Haven were great tourist destinations. Sunset cruise out of Saugatuck is a must. Hit the Dutch Farm market up the road a couple miles. Fresh produce and baked goods were amazing. Saw a Hognose Snake the first day. That was cool.
