We totally enjoyed our stay. The cottage is located midway between Eastport to the North and Bar Harbor to the South and Bangor Airport to the West, each about 45 min drive. The cottage itself is quaint and since this trip was only my husband and I, we never even went upstairs to the loft bedroom space. The views from the cottage and back yard were spectacular. Mid-July and still enjoyed cool weather and a fire in the pit. The pier next door and path to beach were additional perks! The only suggestions would be new coffee cups (stained) and new cookware (very worn) and ceiling fans could use a cleaning. The water discoloration took us aback, but the explanations provided seemed reasonable and we always buy our drinking water anyway. We highly recommend and hope to return on our next trip to Maine!

We really enjoyed relaxing in the back yard and watching the boats come and go. Loved having the fire pit at night as it got cool out. I appreciated that we were on the water but there was some yard between the house and the beach. If I had brought our kids with us, that would’ve made me feel a lot better about being on the water with them. The bed was really comfy. The kitchen was nicely stocked with plenty of utensils, dishes, etc. It is a cute, comfy cottage. Really minor things that could be improved are the water in the kitchen for dishes got really hot which was great but I could never get the shower hot. It was very warm but never the temp I’d normally take a shower at. Possibly just a matter of adjusting the thermostat? The washing machine had a sign on it that it was temperamental and not to change the settings which was on towels and sheets. I didn’t love having to wash my clothes on that setting. And the detailed dusting…corners, up high, the bathroom trim could use a quick swipe. Overall, it was perfect for our 20th anniversary trip! The town is great too, though small. Coffee shop down the road in the grocery and with a drive through window, the diners in town were delish (44 degrees North had the best crab cakes and fish I’ve ever had). The people are all so friendly at every place we visited, including the church we went to. We would definitely stay here again if we are ever lucky enough to make it that far east. We appreciate the hosts making it available!

Perfect stay

Our stay was excellent. The house and property are as pictured. The house is charming and has a pefect layout. Our teen enjoyed the loft. The check-in and check-out was easy. The owners are very friendly, accessible, and have very few demands except to take care of the basics and to enjoy the stay. We definitely recommend this property to anyone who wants to explore Downeast Maine.

Amazing Little Gem

Everything with this property is excellent. This cottage is not only pretty, it is also clean and has all basic things you need in a home away from home. The view is spectacular. When we first arrived, in a late afternoon, we were greeted by the amazing water view, which instantly gave a wonderful feeling. Our drive from the cottage to Acadia National Park and Schoodic Point was also easy. Our little stay in Acadia was truly wonderful. Thank you!

Birthday Getaway

I love the coast of Maine esp in the late Fall when the cold is setting in. The working dock made for a great view for us. Lobster is just 1/4 mile down the road brought in by their own boats! This property was very accomodating will full size appliances and very warm. Lot of windows with a NEast view providing amazing sunrises. Owner was very quick in responding to my communication. King bed was extremely comfortable. We will definitely stay again.

Great place to stay.

This property was amazing! It was great just sitting outside watching the boats. A pier is right next door but I never got woken up by them. It is a nice quiet place to get away from everything. The town is only a few minutes a way and has a few good restaurants and stores. The house can get a little warm and stuffy. But if you keep the fans on and open the windows its fine. The breeze from the bay helps. It has it's own little beach a little ways from the house. The owner has put together a helpful binder for any questions you may have. It also contains menus for local restaurants. I will definitely stay here again.

Our week in Milbridge Maine

We loved the cottage and the view was incredible. My husband even saw an otter in the water early one morning. For me the cycling was great on Wyman Road and even route one did not have too much traffic. Our only disappointment was the brown color of the water. Although it was described as potable , I like to take baths which were definitely muddy in aappearance. Overall we had a nice stay.Thank you.

Fell Short of our Expectations!

Read the description of any VRBO carefully, I missed the detail and upon arrival (July 2022) we discovered the home did not have A/C. It's not uncommon for homes in Maine to not have air but unfortunately, it was warmer than usual the week we stayed and very humid. We turned on the ceiling fans and found a box fan in the main bedroom which was needed because only 1 of 2 windows could be opened. The other was broken and marked keep closed. The first night the sheets did not smell clean and I had to wash the linens for the remainder of our stay. The home definitely needed a good cleaning as there was dog hair and a buildup of dust especially around the vent over the stove which I had to clean prior to cooking for my family (visible from the loft area especially when the sun shined through the large windows). The large windows were great, but they heat up the inside on a summer morning. With the humidity plus the additional heat from the sun we had to leave early in the morning because it was just too hot inside. A grill is available, but we were unable to locate grilling tools. We worked around it. Beware: the photos posted for this home are taking during winter. In the summer there is no open area as shown for kids to play as we found it filled in with weeds or brush though it was described as a meadow and the beach had some old tires and trash so we did not go down by the water. We enjoyed watching the boats go out and come back and the noise from the dock didn't really impact us but will if you're a light sleeper. Due to the water and the time of year we visited we could not sit outside on the small patio without being attacked by mosquitoes. Even using the grill was a blood fest! Bring mosquito spray. The citronella candles were well used and did not offer any support outside. Overall, the home provided a place for us to sleep but there were too many unexpected details that fell short of our expectations. The home is secluded and about an hr and 45 mins from the main area of Acadia. However, from Millbridge don't miss out visiting Schoodic Point before the long drive to the main part of the national park... absolutely stunning! We also visited a few times for crab and lobster Chipman's Wharf. Fresh off the boat, cooked on site, seating upstairs to enjoy lunch, and very nice people.

Stay was okay

The view is beautiful. The cottage is a nice size. We enjoyed watching the lobster boats. Sunrises were amazing. We never received check-in information so we had to contact the owner. We did get a quick response and he was helpful with questions. However, as others have mentioned, there was activity in the lot 10 feet from the house 24/7. It gave an uneasy feeling. Trucks were peeling out. The lobster boats began going out at 2-3am. Conversations were loud. The lights were bright shining right in making it impossible to sleep. We had our dog with us, and there was nowhere for him to do his business. No grass and poor drainage so puddles were very large and the ground was saturated. We had to take him to the campground/park down the road twice a day. The cottage is in need of maintainance. Tiles were off the wall, light switches broken, the vacuum didn’t work and there was no hot water in the kitchen to do dishes. They are simple things to fix and would allow for a better experience. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. And an overall cleaning was needed. I am a huge dog lover but coming in to a couch covered in dog hair is a turn off. We ended up leaving early.

Anniversary trip

Overall the place was very nice. Beautiful view! Milbridge was such a cute, friendly town. The place could use a few updates and there were quite a few things that needed maintenance.- Weeds blocking the view, broken window and Keurig, and it was so dark in there at night. Definitely could use more lights.

Watching The Boats Go By

Great location right next to an active fishing pier. We have stayed here before and enjoy the open area that combines the kitchen and living room. There's a nice TV (around 55 inches with Roku ) to enjoy for the days you just want to hang around . There's a fire pit that my husband loves while watching the stars at night. You can get firewood at several places within 10 minutes of the place. The beds are comfortable and the master bedroom on the first floor has a new air conditioner which we only needed one night. The other days we opened the windows and got a nice coastal breeze in the house. A few minor things to improve would be to update the plates and utensils. Access to the shore was limited due to the weeds in the field being high and no easy way to find your way to the beach area. Overall, it's a great place to stay, relax and enjoy the fishing boats all day.

About the host

Hosted by Jeremy Ray

Host profile image
I am currently the Superintendent of School in Bidderford, ME. The property was owned by my grandfather who once operated a sardine factory in the town of Milbridge. We have been renting this location for the past 4 summers and are currently adding a second cottage to the location so that people can travel with family and friends. My family and friends still live about a 1/2 mile from this location.

Why they chose this property

The most unique working waterfront view in all of the area!

What makes this property unique

The house offers a private setting on a working waterfront. I don't believe you will find a setting like this anywhere else. It is unbelievably close to the ocean and lobster boats.
