A private, comfy 3bd-2ba historic home in the heart of downtown Petaluma!
Designated a Heritage Home of Petaluma, this three bedroom, two bathroom craftsman is over one hundred years old. Built in 1911 it maintains much of its original charm and character... and a few quirks. Through the original diamond-paned front doors a cozy living room awaits. The open dining room features the original built-in hutch with additional access from the kitchen. A professional Wolf range and stainless appliances accompany a farm sink with butcher block counters and a coffee bar. (We’ve got you covered for your first rise + shine!) The vintage sideboard turned eat-in island features a black granite countertop and is the perfect place to gather for hors d'oeuvres or meal prep. Swing the French doors open and mingle between indoors and outdoors.
This home offers multiple opportunities to take in the well-loved garden. A large conversation pit of Adirondack chairs sits beneath a majestic Redwood –– one of Petaluma's Registered Heritage Trees. The side yard features dining al fresco with twinkling cafe lights above. The deck is a perfect place to enjoy breakfast under the market umbrella or hang out while dinner is on the grill. The front porch is an especially lovely place to take in the pedestrian traffic on a busy Petaluma weekend, whether from the stoop or while foraging for berries in the garden.
Just off the kitchen you will find a laundry room complete with washer, dryer, staples, ironing supplies, reusable grocery bags, recycling bins and access to the downstairs bathroom. This Jack + Jill style bathroom is also accessible from the main floor's bedroom, which is off the dining room.
At the top of the stairs you will be greeted by an open landing with a nice work table and large closet. Off the landing are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and space for a portable crib, and another with a queen bed. The upstairs is filled with odd-bungalow-angles, little nooks and curious doors. One bedroom opens up into a bonus space which was once the most magical playroom. While this room still boasts an easel, a dollhouse and a formidable lego collection, today this room serves as a place to watch TV, read or catch a nap while the kids are busy. The upstairs bathroom features a claw foot tub in addition to a separate shower stall and double sink vanity.
Each of the three bedrooms features a queen bed, feather pillows, two down-alternate pillows, high quality sheets, down comforters with duvet covers and extra blankets should it be chilly. The bathrooms are outfitted with plenty of towels and toiletries. The coffee bar has enough supplies to get you through your first morning and there are basic condiments available in the kitchen. The prime location of this home is what drew us here to begin with. We instantly became daily shoppers, walking to the market to fill a bag for our evening meal — a little urban touch in the most charming small town on the edge of some of the most beautiful countryside… right outside your vacation front door.

Wonderful house, location, and owners! We had a great time and appreciated the spacious house, outdoor space, and kid/teen-friendly space!Only hiccup was we thought the photos showed twin beds in one room but there were only queen beds in the whole house. Would return and stay again.
We were on a girls trip with 4 women and love staying at The Roost! The location was absolutely perfect, just across the street from downtown where we found so many restaurants and shops nearby. The house is charming and we truly felt like we were staying at another friend's house with all the homey amenities. The beds were super comfortable and the rooms and bathrooms had lots of hooks. We loved all the sitting spaces - in the living room, at the table, around the kitchen island, out back on the patio and also on the deck. It was a great location for wine tasting in Sonoma. I would definitely rent this house again if I am back in the area.
This property is truly amazing. If you are a fan of charm, style, and distinctive architecture, this home is for you. And if you like the convenience of restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, a fitness center, and tons of great shopping within 3 blocks of your home, this property can't be beat. I'm already looking for reasons to come back to Petaluma so we can stay here again!

Thank you Antoinette! We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at The Roost! Please come back again! - Matt & Ginny
The house was perfectly located a block away from shops, restaurants, grocery store, and beer garden. The house was exceptionally cute and comfortable with a fantastic back yard and front porch for people watching! Highly recommend!
We absolutely loved our stay at The Roost. The property is incredible. The house was stocked with everything you could need. It feels much bigger and spacious than the pictures. The location is amazing as we could walk to all that Petaluma has to offer. Highly recommend staying here.

From beginning to end, our stay at The Roost was perfect. The house is beautifully decorated, clean, welcoming, and full of everything you need. The house felt more spacious than it appears on the website. Matt and Ginny, the homeowners, were great communicators throughout our stay. It is located in historic Petaluma, within walking distance of everything.
We were 3 couples traveling to Petaluma to visit friends and enjoy the wine country. This house was in a great location and we could walk to church, the Petaluma Market, restaurants and we did some shopping. The house was beautifully decorated and had just about everything you wanted and needed. We did notice there was not a microwave and only one TV upstairs. We didn’t miss either one but some people might. There is a bedroom and bathroom downstairs and two bedrooms and another bathroom upstairs. There is a small nook off one of the bedrooms with the TV and board games. In back they had a small circle of Adirondack chairs and beautiful landscaping. The large deck has a grill but we didn’t use. On the side of the house there is a lovely dining area lit with lights. The owner is very responsive to questions and we would definitely stay here again! Thank you Matt & Ginny for sharing your beautiful home with us.
Thank you so much for hosting me and my friends! We loved the house as much as you do. It is very welcoming and provided everything we needed from coffee to hair dryers. We loved the close location and easy navigation. Will definitely make a return one day!

About the host
Hosted by Matthew Hautau
We consider Petaluma our hometown and The Roost to be our forever home. This is where we raised our three babies and our first chickens. It is where we learned to grow food all year long, on little water and lots of love. The Roost is Ginny's basecamp for Urban Cowgirl Design in Petaluma. You can feel the creative energy in and around The Roost. Ginny would tell you this home is an extension of our family -- a living, breathing energy source with good bones, a sense of humor and a long memory. Homes are like that, she would say. Maybe that's why she loves what she does.
Why they chose this property
We hope you find staying here as magical as we do. Waking up to fresh air and mariachi music on the weekends is perhaps one of the best reasons to climb out of bed for a cup of coffee on the deck. The pedestrian traffic is a joy to watch from the front stoop. But the best part of living here is that everything you need is just outside the door, from good neighbors to superb food.
