Lovely short break
We stayed at this quaint and quirky cottage for a lovely short break in October half term and were made to feel very welcome by the owners. As well as having lots of character, it is also very well equipped, with a modern bathroom and kitchen. Directly across the green is the village shop which was very handy and we also enjoyed being able to walk a short distance to the Punchbowl pub for dinner. Lots of lovely local walks and only a short drive to Ullswater, so a great location. We really loved the cottage and would happily visit again.

The cottage was adequate, certainly not luxury as described .
We frequently holiday in cottages and we can't say this was really bad but it wasn't one of the best and it wasn't cheap either.
No heating on arrival it was freezing. No welcome pack of logs. The beds were really uncomfortable and ancient , I was nearly frightened to turn over it wobbled that much.
On the positives it was clean and kitchen facilities good.

Cottage was as described. Well-equipped and clean with luxury linen and efficient heating.
Directions led us directly to the cottage. Perfect, central location in the gorgeous village of Askham, across the road from the village shop. Pub opposite and another about 200yds away. The cottage was beautifully presented with everything we needed. Third bedroom is very small and only suitable for a child. The dining area was also very small (just a hall really) but the kitchen was large and bathroom had bath with shower above (downstairs though). We had lunch at The Punchbowl of freshly-cut large sandwiches. Plenty of fantastic walks from the village. We walked to Lowther Castle, following a wooded path behind Askham Hall (nice kitchen garden tea room at the Hall). Another afternoon we walked in the opposite direction over the fells towards Ullswater (about 3 miles). We also visited Haweswater Hotel for lunch (about 6 miles by car), lots of walking here too. Penrith is about 5 miles away with plenty of local shops and supermarkets.
