Penhill Farm Cottage boasts many charming attributes, and being located on the high ground, this semi-detached cottage enjoys views over the River Taw. Its well-presented and thoughtfully appointed interior is complemented by the large, enclosed garden. Steps lead up to a great terrace, situated above the wood store, which has decking and garden furniture, as well as stunning views towards the river - making it an ideal place where you can watch the sun go down on a warm summer’s evening.
From the cottage, you can follow paths which lead down to Fremington Quay and the renowned Tarka Trail where you can walk, cycle or simply have a bite to eat at the café. The cottage is perfectly placed in a quiet rural location but is within easy reach of the town, and all the attractions of North Devon are easily accessible. These include some of the best beaches in the country at Woolacombe and Saunton, and the nearby town of Barnstaple which has a very good range of shops, facilities and a historic pannier market. The nearest beach to the cottage is Instow, the ideal place where you can enjoy a sunset walk; there is also a pub, café and restaurants overlooking the beach. Slightly further afield, a visit to the villages of Clovelly and Hartland Quay will certainly provide you with some spectacular views of the coastline.
There is walking for all abilities on Exmoor and for those looking for something a little more challenging, why not try some of the South West Coast Path sections around Lynton and Lynmouth? For some interesting days out, visit RHS Gardens at Rosemoor and Dartington Crystal Factory at Great Torrington. There are National Trust houses at Arlington, Knightshayes and Castle Drogo. For those visiting with young children, a day out to the Big Sheep, Milky Way or Combe Martin Wildlife Park will certainly give the youngsters something to smile about. Beach 3 miles. Shop and pub 1 mile, restaurant (via footpath) 500 yards.
