Great property! Janet made everything so charming and special. We walked easily to Chimney Bluffs and Thorpe Winery. Plenty of room inside and out for our party of six. I would stay here again.
House was well stocked with any/everything needed. Smooth check in with Janet showing us around house and yard. Relaxing, comfortable and an enjoyable walk to the bluffs.
This is a nice private property with a stunning view of Lake Ontario. The house is beautiful, charming and homey. The proximity to State Land and the Chimney Bluffs State Park is huge plus.

Great Location Right on the Water
We stayed in the house from July The location of the house is great, and the garden is magical. In the house, you will find everything you need for your stay. Every window has a perfect view, whether it's the lake or the garden. Janet was responsive to all our needs; however, there were a few downsides to the stay. The grass was cut on the first day of our stay. Because there is no paved driveway and the grass clippings were not collected when the lawn was mowed, they got onto our shoes and then all over the house and all over the car. We had to sweep the floors daily, even several times a day - definitely not something I wanted to be doing so often when on vacation. Notice that departure instructions state the house need to be clean and orderly when you leave. Additionally, while not stated in the online description, the well water (in the house) has sulfur in it, which results in a "rotten-egg" smell. It does not cause any health issues if you wash/shower in it, but the smell is rather strong and repulsive. There were also other issues with the water during our stay (no pressure, no hot water), but Janet had done everything to resolve them timely and fully.

Jenny,
Thank you for your helpful notes! The water issue has been resolved. There was an "anode rod" that needed replacing. (new vocabulary for me!)
Take care,
Janet

Wonderful Lakefront Getaway
Janet's house and property were the ideal setting for a relaxing weekend on Lake Ontario. The space is clean and comfortable and has every convenience you'd expect, as well as some unique and creative elements. The kitchen is functional and efficient, and the dining room / sun room on the lake side features a traditional candelabra chandelier, which very much elevates the experience of meals -- lakeside by overhead candlelight doesn't get much better.
The house feels very connected with the outdoors and the lake, visible from nearly every room. Opening the windows invites the cool lake breezes into the space and also the constant sounds of the waves -- soft or strong, depending on season and weather. The rooms are spacious, charming, cozy and uncluttered.
The property feels very private and secluded, though there are neighbors close by to the east. Steps down to the lake make for easy access to the rocky shore, and the Chimney Bluffs are visible to the west. Sunsets from the property are spectacular, and the lakeside fire pit is perfect for primitive cooking and stargazing. There is also a wonderful stone grilling hearth in the side garden for more conventional grilling and outdoor cooking. The house and all of these outdoor amenities are situated on a lovely and sweeping property, with plenty of areas of shade and a variety of tree cover. The giant willow tree makes for a dramatic arrival, and the glade of under story trees at the edge of the bluff is a perfect place for a picnic.
Travelers should be aware that the well water has an odor of sulphur. No big deal. Also, be aware that the house does not have an internet connection / wi-fi. Again, no big deal if you're going to relax and recharge. Cellular reception was mostly reliable on the property.
Overall, Janet has a magical gem of a property, with the character and setting that makes for a memorable Lake Ontario experience. Highly recommended. Thank you Janet!

Thank you so much for the lovely words, Rob! I enjoyed meeting you and some of your party, and feel that we share in the appreciation of natural beauty and aesthetics.
Because I am always trying to improve the property, consideration is being given to the possibility of wi-fi.
Again, thanks for writing! I hope you will return!

Our family really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is as described and as the pictures show. There is lake access from the property and a beached area less than 5 minutes away. We loved listening to the waves lapping against the shore as we roasted marshmallows and watched the sun set on the lake. Janet was a great and thoughtful host. She made it easy to get settled in right away and to feel comfortable. We had one small issue during our stay, but Janet handled it immediately, which we appreciated. We would definitely stay here again.
The property was exactly as listed…beautiful, quiet location with lovely views of the lake. The beach area was enjoyable for kids. The property owner was very communicative and friendly…a wonderful spot for a lake getaway!
Janet's waterfront country French home was an amazing escape from the city for a long Labor day weekend for us. We stayed longer than just for a weekend, being able to work from home, and everything worked out just perfect.
The property itself is very nice and clean, the location is amazing, Janet is a very considerate and thoughtful host - everything was exactly as described and even more. We absolutely enjoyed our stay and would love ot come again
This lakefront home is so charming. It is clean, spacious, well decorated with some beautiful antiques, bright and sunny. It has everything you could possibly need for your stay. If you do feel the urge to go out, there are great farms in the area, nice vineyards, the Rochester Public Market is a must, and Scratch Bakehouse in Syracuse. Janet was very helpful and accommodating.

I stayed at this property with my husband and parents for 5 nights and had a wonderful time! The grounds of the property are very private and secluded. The property borders Chimney Bluffs State Park. You can literally walk from your private beach, right into the state park. One day we still drove to the park (~5 min away) so that we could do the full hike from the main entrance. The house itself is beautifully decorated with antiques. Gorgeous water views from every window. The private beach was nice. Quite rocky and I recommend water shoes. I would definitely recommend this property to others!
We lucked into this property last minute due to a cancelation, and boy are we SO glad we did. Some friends and I that have been cooped up in quarantine in the city needed to get out and breathe some fresh air and this place was beyond perfect. From the beginning Janet was accommodating, easy going, and very quick to respond. She provided a tour of the grounds upon arrival, as well as a book of resources. The house itself is gorgeous and looks like it is frozen in another time. The abundance of light from the classic windows in each room was to die for. The yard was huge (and again) beautiful. But the absolute best part of this property is the private beach. I recommend water shoes but the water was the perfect temperature and we watched the sun set most nights while drinking wine and cooking dinner. The only thing I would recommend is if you plan on cooking, stop at a grocery store in one of the larger towns on the way in as the grocery stores that are closest to the property are not stocked for much cooking besides grilling (which we also enjoyed). Our stay at Janet’s was rejuvenating and we will absolutely return. Highly recommend!
Janet was kind and gracious. Her antique filled home was lovely and the location was perfect. It was situated on a bluff overlooking Lake Ontario. The lake breeze filled the home with cool air and we spent our evenings near the bonfire. A quick walk down the road took us to a small winery. Overall our stay was very very pleasant!

Welcoming and comfortable
Janet was wonderful to work with; very helpful at all times. The house was adorable and easily accommodated 6 adults for a weekend reunion. Numerous activities to meet everyone's interests and beautiful scenery. Only negative was our arrival was immediately after a storm and the bugs on the first night were horrific (obviously no one was at fault; nor could anyone fix that problem). Each night the situation improved greatly and we were able to enjoy a fire outside. Loved our time there and would absolutely recommend others to visit!

This vacation home was more than we ever expected. It was very roomy and exceptionally maintained,
This was our first time to rent a vacation home. We normally would stay in hotels. But wanting to be close to Sodus Bay we had to find other accommodations. We had guests coming from Texas, Chicago, New York, and Pennsylvania. However they were not arriving at the same time. Janet was very accommodating for this arrangement. Janet met my wife and I the day we were checking-in to show us the home. We were totally amazed with the roominess and cleanliness. The decor of the home just wanted to make you to sit back and relax. There was a very modern kitchen fully equipped with up to date appliances. We definitely took advantage of the kitchen making many meals during our stay. Janet also provided multiple bottles of water which was much appreciated it was a hot summer week. The three bedrooms and bathrooms were large and provided plenty of space for the number of guests we were entertaining. There was a new stainless steel grill which we also used located in the backyard. The view from the backyard was amazing over looking Lake Ontario. The sunsets were spectacular. The home is surrounded by large yard with many trees and located away from the local road which creates a park setting. The photos displayed for this home is exactly what you get and we could not be more satisfied with these accommodations and working with Janet to make this vacation one of the best ever. We wanted a place to just sit back, relax, and socialize with friends. We found it in this country home.

Summer at the lake, nothing's better!
I reunited with 2 college friends and their husbands at Janet's lake cottage. The 6 of us had a wonderful time. The lake house is well stocked, comfortable and lovely. It was wonderful to have the winery and Chimney Bluff State Park within easy walking distance, such a great location. We saw eagles, egrets and perhaps a coyote or fox. We're not sure, we called it a foxote. And the lake! I'm from Michigan and I'm a frequent visitor to the other Great Lakes, I'd never been to Lake Ontario. It was beautiful. I swam a couple times each day, so refreshing! The water was clear and deep enough to swim without having to walk out a quarter mile. Bring old sneakers or river shoes as the beach and lake bottom are rocky, put on the shoes and jump in the lake!

great property!
Janet was a great host! The house and property were beautiful! There was plenty of land to spend the day outside looking out over the lake. The house itself was very cute and had the essentials. Only complaint was the waterfront access - the steps were quite steel and there wasn't a great way to get down to the water from the stairs - some sort of dock or platform would have been helpful.

Thank you, Megan. I enjoyed having you and your family visit! The lake has been very "dynamic" this year and changes pretty much on a daily basis. Most recently, the gaps between the rip rap have filled in with small stones from the lake. Unfortunately, docks are not permitted in this location. It would be wonderful, I agree!
Thanks again,
Janet
