Fabulous place to stay for the whole family

We all enjoyed our stay at this fabulous house. It was clean, well equipped, with plenty of room for all of us. The nearby playground was a bonus and the safe beach and lake right in front was amazing. We had one wet day but there was plenty of games and movies to keep us occupied. Great communication as well. Thanks

Fabulous location!

Amazing location for water activities boat ramp couple of meters from the house, we had our jet skis and it was the perfect spot for them. House was warm and had everything needed although it could do with a spring clean and clean bedding. Apart from that we enjoyed our stay.

Amazing location highly recommend

This property is absolutely fantastic !!! The location is the best on the lake. House was comfortable and the front and rear decking was a major bonus. Plenty of seating with all day sun and the view across the lake and watching the sunsets was spectacular. Ideal spot to park the boat and jet skis with plenty of parking at the lake front straight across the road. Short stroll to a beautiful bush walk, playground and public toilets. We will definitely be returning for another summer adventure as this property ticks all the boxes with everything you need.

Rotoiti Bach

Bach would suit large family and we were only two. No internet but a neighbour kindly loaned us a box. We did not bring our sky box with us and could only get TV 2. We did not use the BBQ but the Gas Bottle was left on and the left hand burner does not seem to work. The decks were extensive and good but could use a warning strip on the outer edge to prevent stumbling. Ironically the invoice shows a cleaning charge but we did the necessary to leave the Bach clean and tidy as per the instructions. In summary we enjoyed our time there and Madelaine was very helpful

Break Away!

Booking online was quick and easy to do! The price we paid for the space and the amount of beds provided was worth it. A nice place and suitable with almost everything we needed was there however, I think providing tea towels would be easier and can be easily collected after each stay since there is a charge for cleaning. We thought some bath mats should be supplied also, to use in both bathrooms. There was one bathroom with just a bath in there? Any thoughts about installing a shower-head over this bath so there are more options, for both bathrooms to be used instead of lining up for the one shower-especially if you have more than 3 staying. Just a suggestion.. And lastly, a heads up about the trout flies would've been nice to know before we had arrived. We live in a city and not near a lake, so we had no idea what they were at first (thank you neighbours) but we freaked out when we saw them mainly in the bathrooms and kitchen. Apparently they come in at night (in their thousands) and they are attracted by light. They look like mosquitoes but they are harmless and they don't bite. We had to clean them up on our first night and the other two mornings when we awoke-not impressed!

Thank you for taking the time to review. In the bach notes I sent through there was a section on the linen/ tea towels etc which you needed to bring and another paragraph dedicated to the trout flies (little insects trout eat). The trout flies come out on random nights, they are harmless but if they get inside they can make a mess and need to be vacuumed up! On a night trout flies are out, all windows need to be closed as they are attracted to light and will find their way in and hover around the light. They can be quite disconcerting if you don't know what they are and discover them for the first time. They are not dirty and do not bite. You could go up there again and stay for a week and not see one. They are very random! Thank you for the feedback, although we don't provide linen, towels etc, I can see it would be beneficial to provide some tea towels and bath mats in case people become caught out.

Beautiful location, friendly host, but house misrepresented.

The views were beautiful and the host was great at communication and flexibility of arrival / departure time. We thought we had booked a 4 bedroomed/3 bathroom property. It was a poor description. The house had 2 real bed rooms inside and an open plan room that had beds, fridge, cupboard for kitchen and the only access way to back deck and sleep out which slept 3, but that was dark and airless. That room also had a servery from kitchen, so no privacy at all. One bathroom had a bath and basin and the other was a toilet off a very cluttered laundry where you had to wash hands in laundry sink. Only shower was in the very tiny ensuite (?.) bedside the double bed in the open plan room. Was difficult with 5 adults, don’t know how you would manage with the 12 advertised the house could take. We left a full day earlier than we paid for after discovering a dirty fat/ food pan in the oven. Every cupboard in the bedroom was full of bedding and clutter. Top bunk in one room was piled with bedding with nowhere to put it. After paying premium rates because of the lack of bailable accommodation that weekend we were extremely disappointed.

I challenge this review - this is a bach - not a five star hotel! A very clean, tidy and beautifully presented bach but a little quirky in it's lay out. This is the first negative review we have received in 12 years of renting it out! This guest didn’t come to the lake for the boating, beach lifestyle like most of our guests do. They came for a sporting event in Rotorua however there was no accommodation due to the popularity of this event so they found themselves in our bach when really they would have been better off in a hotel! Yes there is excess woollen blankets, pillows, duvets in cupboards for the winter period as it can get cold by the lake. This guest came in the middle of summer so may have seen no need for the “excess bedding”. Guests don't usually go into the cupboards unless they are looking for more bedding etc. From an experienced host it’s better to have too many extra blankets etc rather than not enough! The sleep out was out of action (which was communicated before the stay had they wanted to opt out) due to having been flooded with the recent weather bomb so not a fair comment here regarding it being dark and airless. Re the dirty dish in the oven, our property manager mistakenly overlooked this and this was a one off mistake. We have never had a complaint about the standard of her work ever before. I don’t buy that the guest left a day early due to finding a dirty dish in the oven as I had been in communications with the guest over the first 2 nights and not once was a problem mentioned. Quite the opposite actually where she said all was going well. This was more likely to be circumstantial due to wanting to get back to Auckland in a hurry as a weather warning was announced for Aucklanders to brace themselves due to the incoming cyclone which had she been upfront about, I would have refunded her for the last night.

Peaceful lake holiday

Older well maintained bach with great flexibility with sleeping arrangements. Easy to accommodate our family and friends. Has everything you need and great views. Great way to start the day having breakfast on the deck overlooking the lake. Then as the day warmed up to be able to wander across the quiet road to the lake for a swim, kayak or watersports. Great to have easy access to the boat ramp and bushwalks. Madeleine was easy to communicate with, responding promptly.

Cant beat this for location

A lovely spot for anyone wanting easy and quick access to the boat ramp - its simply a 20 second walk from the doorstep and just across the road to the lake. Excellent for families as swimming is great in this spot. Well equipped property and spotlessly clean. Highly recommend. Owners were wonderful and very easy to deal with and prompt replies.

About the host

Hosted by Madeleine

Host profile image
We love being a host as we love other families enjoying the lake as much as we do. Please leave us some feedback on our page - we take delight in hosting and love hearing when guests have had a wonderful time.

Why they chose this property

We're an outdoors family who love being by the water - be it the lake or the ocean. We chose this area as we have the lake and boat ramp on our doorstep which enables us to capitalize on good weather and be on the lake skiing, fishing, visiting the hot pools or just having a drink at the Okere Falls store (all within boating distance) in no time at all. We also enjoy being out in the country but only a 25 minute drive to the city and a half hour drive to the famous mountain bike park!

What makes this property unique

We have a large section, plenty of room for tents, cars and boats. We are fenced out the back to cater for fury friends to come along too however this is at the owner's discretion.
