About this property
Tranquil & private house, outdoor pool, rural setting close to beaches & hikes
Green View at Whangarei Heads is what this peaceful and tranquil, tastefully decorated house offers you. With stunning views all around with rolling hills, a distant sea view and a pool to enjoy, the house can accommodate 8 people, 10 by request only. 5 bedrooms, 2 kings with en-suites, 2 queen - shared bathroom bath & shower, and a room with 2 single beds.
This is the perfect place to stay to unwind from city life and enjoy summer breaks. Green View is a very private and quiet space.
Local fabulous beaches and walking hikes to suit all levels of fitness abound.
We are approximately a 30-minute drive out of Whangarei City, so you definitely need a car. There is no public transport or Uber and Taxis can be very expensive. It is a lovely coastal drive, however.
There is an airport in Whangarei if you wanted to fly up from Auckland for instance and here you could arrange a hire car.
It is a good idea to buy any groceries you may need in the city or nearby Onerahi. However, there are some shops in the village, supermarket included.
Due to a change in local council bylaws pets are no longer allowed at the property as the house is surrounded by a high-density kiwi area.
The property would be ideally for a weeklong retreat stay for artists, writers, yoga retreats or similar.

Guests must take own responsibility for themselves or children when around the pool. It is 7.5ft at the deepest end. Bring own floatation devices
Electric fence for nearby cattle. You do not see this, but it is fixed to the back of the wooden fence at the back of the house
As stated, sadly, pets are now not allowed at Greenview. Due to restrictions by local council and the area being a high density kiwi bird area.

Lovely and considerate host, Kathy made the whole process so smooth. The accommodation location and views is something of an experience, we were a group of eight adults and it was a great place for us to recoup. Thank you so much Kathy.

Melissa it has been a pleasure to host yourself and your party. I have to say a big thank you for looking after polly (our escapee resident pet chicken !)...would absolutely love to host you again ....happy new year 😁😁
Kathy's place is simply incredible with so many thoughtful touches. The views were stunning, the beds were comfy, the living areas were spacious and functional. Myself and 10 other friends had an amazing time here, and felt like we had this slice of paradise all to ourselves! Communication was easy and prompt throughout the booking experience and our stay. I would highly recommend booking with Kathy and Adrian for an incredible getaway!

Amaria, it was a pleasure to host yourself and your party and it is always a great feeling for a host to know that the guests have enjoyed themselves so much 😀....thank you for your lovely review....I do appreciate it ... 😊😊
A spacious holiday home inside and out that could accommodate everyone comfortably including our 2 family dogs and my wheelchair. Comfy beds, beautiful pool, 3 great bathrooms and toilets, self contained studio (very roomy) with own deck and lovely views with a peep of the water. Kathy is so great to deal with and she was also easy to get in touch with. She had put together lots of great touches that made our stay more comfortable and homely. Our grandaughter loved the animals. Lots of lovely bays to visit just a short drive away and shops a few minutes away too. Thankyou for your hospitality Kathy, we had a very relaxing comfortable stay.

Thank you Aroha for this amazing review. I am thrilled to know you all had a relaxing and comfortable stay. It is also lovely to hear that your grandaughter enjoyed herself, and please thank her for feeding the wild birds, I really appreciated that :)
I would absolutely host you and your family again if you wished to visit the area :)
Kathy and Adrian have thought of absolutely everything for this beautiful property and breathtaking location.Pearched on a hill that overlooks rolling farmland all the way to the coast (The ocean could be seen despite the inland location!), this amazing home (emphasize on the word home) would make any guest feel extremely welcome and relaxed. This house had everything, views, large rooms, amazing entertainment space, the kitchen was decked out with everything and more.We were in awe when we opened the sliders onto the green lawn overlooking the mountains. Bird song filled the air with a gentle peaceful quiet breeze as their orchestra. What I loved most about this home was the bird feeder that Kathy invites you to participate in, waking up everyday morning to feed the birds became one of the trip highlights as we would have a coffee and watch them all fly in - it was immersing.I mentioned an emphasize on the word 'Home' earlier, what I meant by that is, with a lot of holiday homes, some can feel quite sanitary and bare, built for quick turn arounds. This is not the case with Kathy and Adrians home, this has been and still feels like a home which made the overall comfort better, their were height marks of children on the walls, fairy lights surrounding the lounge, various games and nick nacks, pool toys - it really felt like we had been invited in to stay at a friends house. We all left a piece of our heart their and would go back in a heart beat.Thank you so much

Just be careful when booking this property. The washing machine broke down apparently flooding the floor (the property had already been vacated) so was news to us. VRBO took $1500 out of our account as a claim. The owner went and bought a brand new top of the line washing machine for $1279.00 plus $99 delivery fee, I have a copy of the tax invoice she also had a quote to fix her broken machine for $685.46, however they couldn't fix the machine for another 2 months so she bought a new expensive machine. Whilst googling the model make and number of the broken machine I found that it retailed between $600 & $900 depending on what year it was bought. Also fair to note that the new machine was delivered to another address. So be careful when staying that you make sure that all appliances / property are photographed because I'd hate you to have to pay for a high end fridge. I feel scammed

Thank you for this review and I do take on board all that you have said. I am very grateful to be given the chance to respond. I apologize for the lengthy response, but I feel as a host, that this is warranted so I can address all the facts.
This is one of the first reviews given on Virbo and sadly, though it is not favourable, again I take on board all you have to say. My property and personal ‘host’ reviews is 100% on other platforms where the property is listed.
To respond to your points. Firstly, and unfairly as regards your review, you did not even stay at the property yourself, you booked it for 4 of your colleagues to stay for 6 nights, so on this point you were not even here to witness and comment fairly with no prejudice. You only had the word of your 4 colleagues.
Guest check out is at 1030am and I arrived at the property at 1045 am. The garage was flooded, the washing machine door was open, it was flashing a light and there was wet underwear and towels, half in and half out of the machine which did not belong to us. It looked as though the machine had been stopped mid-cycle.
I took photos of the flooding and the machine, and upon trying to start it again with no success, I took a video of the outcome – ie, the flashing lights upon trying to start it.
I went through the correct channels from this point on. I contacted a whitewear specialist who could not come out for 2 months (there are only 2 business’s of this nature in the area) I informed yourself of the damage and I rang and spoke with Vrbo directly, and sent them the photos and video.
Unfortunately, I have no control over the decisions made by Vrbo. They agreed it was damage and were happy to refund. However, and this is quite an important point - as you and I both communicated via the platform, I was more than happy for Vrbo NOT to pay out anything until the report had been done. I was prepared to wait 2 months for a decision to be made, once the report was back.
With full bookings ahead and not wanting to have guests inconvenienced, I had no choice but to get a new washing machine - out of my own finances. I feel it is my business as to which machine I purchased however, in light of heavy future use with guest traffic.
Vrbo did pay out a damage payment 3 weeks later, though I know it was the understanding between myself and yourself to wait for the report – again this was out of my control, and I feel your upset around this should have been something you could have taken up with Vrbo yourself.
After the 2 months, I sent you the whitewear/plumber report which stated clear ‘flooding’ within the machine. I declined to get it fixed as by this time, 2 months later, there was no need. I had already needed to invest in a new machine.
I sent you the invoice for the new machine – though I did not have to do this - out of my own integrity and to show you the cost. Let me be clear here, it was always my intention after the report was in, to refund any financial difference owing to you – as we both, again, had communicated on the Vrbo platform.
However, I still await your completed bank details as the message sent to me is missing information. You sent me a bank account, but I am unclear as to which country this belongs to – New Zealand or Australia. I still await the Account Holder Name, IBAN Bank Code, Bank Address etc – all the details needed to do an international transfer. I feel it would be best also, for you to send the full company name through which the accommodation was paid, and not your own personal name. This is best for my own records, thank you.
I have already addressed with you the matter of the delivery address but again, for the validity of this review response, I had the machine sent to our urban business address. This is something we always do as due to living rurally delivery costs can easily double. I do hope this makes more sense to you, and that you have received my earlier message via Vrbo this morning with the business / delivery address intact.
We are professional people with integrity. We have no need to ‘scam’ and seek monetary gain such as this. I simply followed the guidelines and rules as laid out by Vrbo. Thankfully, these are in place for the protection of any ‘host’.
As a further point of note from myself, even though your 4 colleagues did leave the property in an okay condition, there was damage to a sun lounger for which I did not claim, one bathroom was left in a very distasteful condition, and not to give rise to too much suspicion, all 7 beds had been slept in when only 4 needed to be used. It did certainly make me wonder whether other people had been invited back as numerous items including pillows had been left behind in these other rooms.
As per the host rules around this no parties or events are allowed, and for extra guests there would be a small charge. This is conjecture however and cannot be proven. As per your request I have now disposed of these items.
Again, thank you for your feedback as any feedback is always appreciated.
I have been hosting guests for 4 years and I absolutely love it. I used to travel a great deal with work so I know first-hand how the little touches help you feel 'at home'. I am always happy to be contacted beforehand if you wish to request any special touches before your arrival. If I can accommodate your wishes I certainly will.
I like to ensure that guests have a lovely and relaxing stay :)
