About this property

Bear Necessities | Hot Tub + Serene Views & Pool Table!

Don't be fooled by the name, Bear Necessities offers plenty of luxuries as well. This warm and welcoming log cabin includes an outdoor hot tub, a pool table, an arcade and an indoor jetted tub, among other amenities that make it a truly special place for a family vacation.

Bear Necessities can sleep up to eight people. The primary suite epitomizes cabin style with all sorts of modern comforts. The spacious bed, crafted of logs that echo the wood walls, rafters and cathedral ceiling, is flanked by nightstands with lamps so that one of you can read in bed while the other drifts to sleep. Other features include a flat-screen TV, expansive windows that let in plenty of morning sunlight and evening breezes, and perhaps best of all, a jetted tub right in the privacy of your room. When you're in need of some quiet time, you'll know exactly where to go! Prefer showers? The primary bath has one of those too.

The loft area upstairs has queen-size bunk beds, so another four people can sleep up there. The kids will rush to stake their claim, as the loft is also home to the game room, complete pool table, another flat-panel TV and a sound system. There's a full bathroom up there as well, making the loft a suite unto itself—one with spectacular views of the densely forested lands surrounding the house.

Have still more guests to accommodate? No worries! The marvelously comfortable sofa in the living room converts to a bed for two. Guests who sleep here have the advantage of a 51-inch TV and the stone-surround gas fireplace—just the thing for chilly winter evenings, or for creating a romantic ambiance.

Speaking of romance, check out the large hot tub on the back deck! Of course, a long soak is also a fabulous way to ease tired muscles after a day of hiking or biking, golfing or walking the grounds of Dollywood—activities that are all within easy reach of Bear Necessities. If you're not in the mood for a hot-tub session, you can relax on one of the deck's rocking chairs. You just might drift off to sleep while listening to the leafy tree branches sway in the breeze.

Another of the deck's amenities is a gas grill. If you reel in some trout on a fishing expedition, you can grill it right out here. Everything, from hot dogs to corn on the cob, tastes better when cooked outdoors!

There's a fully equipped kitchen indoors as well. Whether you plan to prepare a multi-course holiday feast or simply brew coffee and make PB and J sandwiches, you'll find all the cookware, tableware and appliances you need. The extensive counter also serves as a breakfast bar, if you'd rather enjoy a quick snack there rather than at the nearby dining table, which comfortably seats six people.

If your idea of a vacation entails no cooking at all, you'll be happy to know that Bear Necessities is just a five-minute drive from downtown Gatlinburg, where you can dig into a juicy steak one night, barbecue ribs the next, and everything from pizza to pancakes in between. Besides eateries, Gatlinburg offers mini golf, an aquarium and plenty of other attractions. Only slightly further afield is Pigeon Forge, home to more restaurants as well as Dollywood, go karting, zip lining and more. And let's not forget the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the country's most popular, with its hiking trails, waterfalls, wildlife and wildflowers.

My family's favorite vacation and VRBO to date! The cabin was stunning with amazing views. Very well maintained. The privacy was next level while being in close proximity to stores and things to do! Highly recommend and would absolutely return! A!

Great Cabin

I loved everything about the cabin execpt one thing... the windows at the top of the master bedroom cannot be covered and the sun comes in at dawn, and when trying to take a nap in the afternoon. Other than that probably the best cabin we have ever stayed in.

Scary drive up!

This house was nice but the drive up is very intense. One lane road on the edge of mountain. There was also hardly any furniture to relax on (couch doesn’t recline) and not really any place to walk your dogs. This would be great for more advanced adventurer seekers!

Fabulous cabin

Well kept had everything we need. Beautiful view. The amenities were more than enough for us to have a good time. Everything we need for cooking with the exception of like spices, even salt and pepper. But obviously that is not a big deal. Overall, very satisfied and would stay again.

Our Vacation Trip to De-stress

This cabin allowed us to go out on the deck and look out amongst the beautiful fall leaves and just appreciate the beauty Tenn has to offer and de-stress from our normal daily life. Love this pet-friendly cabin and would recommend staying here.

Relaxing despite the experience of JoAnn

Great until housekeeping knocked on my door at 10:20am telling me that I'm supposed to be out at 10am. I would like to show my info/proof from Jackson Mountain Properties telling me check in time was 4pm and check out is 11am. (Although, Rebecca helped me get in by 2pm and I'm thankful for her help!) Then after getting home, I received a nasty voicemail from JoAnn, from when Hkping was there! She threatened that I may be charged with another nights stay. I would say that I had a great time and mostly, I did. I will NEVER deal with a cabin again though, unless I'm working directly with the owner. JoAnn and this company obviously are in it for $$ because they don't listen to their customers! Tammy Kirby

Good location, has the amenities

This cabin was a good location in proximity to Gatlinburg and the smoky mountains. It wasn't as secluded as pictured, but we barely saw or heard from the neighbors. This cabin had the right amount of space for our 3 person family, and it was nice to have a full kitchen and living space while on vacation. My complaints were, 1) it wasn't very clean. While the beds were made and everything was put away it was pretty dusty and the windows were dinged. 2) the beds were fairly uncomfortable, but this is standard of most hotels too. It was also impossible to get any room completely dark during the day, for my son's naps. All the rooms have vaulted ceilings with high uncovered windows, which is pretty, but not accommodating for napping. 3) This cabin is REALLY creaky. The way the wind blows on it, or perhaps there are branches constantly scratching the roof, but it sounds like there is someone constantly walking on the roof. You get used to it, but it is really loud. And constant.

Very Interesting

The property itself was lovely, and the view was beautiful. However, the “accommodations”. The Wifi didn’t exists at all, I called, was put on hold for 20 minutes than was told to stand by for a call back, so while I waited I drew a bath, well not much of one at all, the most important feature for me and my girlfriend was Big Jacuzzi bath tub, upon usage the tub got literally 3 inches full before being ice cold, I attempted three times to call and get the heck outta there but nothing. I wanted my money back. I drove 8 hours from Norfolk, me and my girlfriend just got back a deployment, we are in the Navy, and this was going to be our Christmas present to each other, a nice private vacation. So we could not just drive back, so we tried finding other places to stay but everything was booked... long story short do not recommend if you want good service or a nice hot bath. I just want my money back. I do not want to recommend this place to anyone. I wish someone would just call me and talk to me.

Disappointed

Arrived to find furniture was dirty, had to put a sheet on the couch to sit. Chair was torn, rocking chair on porch broken, arcade broken, grill had no propane tank or drip pan so grease laying everywhere on back deck under it. Mattress under bunks upstairs was torn to shreds(can't post pics) called about propane then canceled when we found main line. Came back next day to a maintenance man in our cabin, no call, text, email, notice. Had our dog and personal items out. Cannot speak to anyone, have to text. They offered me $50. Cabin itself was very nice but carpet, furniture are filthy. Gave us 1 trash bad for 6 people for 5 days. Find another company to go with that doesn't text you. I will do my research next time and will not stay in a cabin managed by this company

Great Location Ok Cabin

First, I will start with the good stuff!! The cabin was very clean, in a great location and had a wonderful supply of kitchen pots, pans, dishes, and utensils. The upstairs area was great for the kids and they enjoyed the video game and hot tub! Now for the bad, When we got to the cabin on March 31st we had already been staying overnight at a few hotels so we were very low on clean clothes, so that night I washed our clothes and put them in the dryer. The next morning our clothes were still wet. So I called the maintenance number to get the dryer looked at and was told someone would be out that day, then never showed up. I called the next day and was told they came to our cabin but our dog was out so they left. However, we did not have a dog at our cabin and so I told them that thinking they went to the wrong place. Then they said they would be at our cabin between noon and 3 pm, again no one showed up and they never called. So I called back and I was told it was in the owners hands and I would receive a call, again no one called. My family and I had to not only bring back dirty laundry from vacation but we also had to wash a few item and hang around the cabin to dry so we would have clean clothes to wear. I was very disappointed with the run around I got, plus the dryer was still not working when we left on April 3rd 2019. The bed in the master bedroom is extremely hard as well, while that might be good for some people, it was very uncomfortable for my husband and I. This cabin was the most expensive cabin I have ever rented in the area and it was my worst experience and awful customer service. We rent in the area a couple times a year and I will never rent another cabin using Jackson Mountain Homes again. Merideth Armstrong

House is managed by another rental company.

Love the house, excellent space and layout- love thats it is listed as pet friendly however there is no yard for walking dogs, only the cul de sac that the house is on. This house is actually managed by another rental company and you WILL pay more booking through vrbo. Also the company has a different pet policy than what is listed by VRBO- the company only sent their rental agreement after my cancellation period had passed but there was no problem ultimately. There are 2 carbon monoxide detectors in the cabin despite warning in description of amenities.*Heed warning of steep zig-zag driveway! We had an awd expedition that handled it perfectly and there are plow trucks and salt thankfully as we stayed during snow storm and single degree temps. House stayed very warm we did not even need the fireplace. Hot tub worked great... very close proximity to gatlinburg and pigeon forge though we didnt care to spend much time there. We went to wild bear falls and enjoyed being "snowed in".
