About this property

Feed Your Soul at Silver Beach Cove

Silver Beach Cove is a sanctuary from the workaday world. This last year we have added a pier with floating dock, and completed the living shoreline. Settle in to a relaxing stay in this lovely three bedroom, two and-a-half bath house (and outdoor shower!) All rooms have vaulted ceilings, and gorgeous views.

Nestled on a secluded cove, we are surrounded by woods and farmland. Bay breezes and nature embrace you on the wrap-around screen porch and back deck. Living areas center around a river rock gas fireplace. Enjoy your coffee while watching trees rustle and egrets fishing for their breakfast.

The master bedroom suite has a queen-sized bed and a soaking tub under garden window. Two other sleeping spaces include queen beds, and there is a step-in corner shower in the main bathroom.

Extra-wide doorways and all-one-level floor plan accommodate wheelchair use gracefully. Your well-mannered pet is welcome (ask about pet and baby arrangements). Crib and high chair are available.

There are many activities (farmers' markets, hiking, antique emporiums) and delightful restaurants within a short drive from Silver Beach Cove (we'll leave you a list of our favorites), also crabbing, biking, and canoe/kayaking equipment provided on site. We bet you'll just want to settle in-—it is one of the most beautiful, tranquil places on the East Coast!

Beautiful
This is a gem- the property, the home, the location were perfect! We are birders, nature lovers, hikers- love being by the water, all the boxes were checked. The home had everything one could hope for. The views were perfect, from nearly every window. And so many lovely places to sit with your morning coffee out in the yard or on the deck.

Perfect!
We were looking for a place where we could just relax. This home exceeded our expectations. The hosts thought of everything that would make our stay enjoyable. The kitchen was well stocked. The canoe, rowboat, kayak enabled us to enjoy the cove. The house, the deck, the screened in porch were all very comfortable. The hosts were very easy to communicate with him and helped us to feel very welcome in their home. This was a wonderful Vrbo experience.

Beautiful home in a quiet and serene setting
We had a wonderful week in this beautiful, well-equipped home. The location is very remote - we heard only birds and bugs. We enjoyed venturing in to Port Charles to take our young grandson to the beach and to enjoy a couple of the restaurants there. We also took full advantage of the boats, bikes, and games at the house. What a treat those were! The screened in porch was a favorite place for our family to hang out and reconnect. The outside shower was an unexpected delight. The only disappointment for us was not knowing that the master bathroom did not have a shower - only a soaking tub. Karen was a gracious host, offering us a crib and highchair for our grandson and leaving us a couple of bags of coffee (whole bean and ground) to enjoy each morning as we watched the birds out on the cove. This was our first time to this area and Karen's beautiful home made it a fun, relaxing, memorable vacation.

Great Fun
The property is absolutely beautiful! The view from the screened in deck was simply amazing! We had great fun exploring the cove on the variety of boats available and experienced more sea wildlife than ever before. The house and gardens were very clean and well kept. The house was supplied with everything needed to function as a home away from home. We also took a long leisurely walk (with our 2 pups) around the corn field and admired the many beautiful properties and flora. It was a wonderful experience and would love to return one day.

Quiet & secluded cove with gentle breeze
My husband, dog & I really enjoyed our stay at Silver Beach Cove. Quiet and although it was July in VA it didn’t feel hot because of the daily breeze and ample shade (no bugs during our mid-July stay). The cove is quite shallow & muddy. Best to paddle out past the cove for a swim or visit a local beach. Our pup did cut his foot on an oyster shell (we think) while we mistakenly played fetch in the cove during low tide. Seems like the tidal range is about 2-3 feet, so better to do that at high tide. Recommend visitors actually observe the high/ low tide fully before venturing into the water so you can see the oyster wall that’s hidden at high tide. We brought our own paddle boards for excursions at nearby Willis Wharf & Onancock but used those on property in the cove. Husband tried his luck at fishing and caught a few fish plus a ray just past the mouth of the cove inlet. Lots of crabs of all sizes in the cove. Host provides ample entertainment: corn hole, canoe/ boards/ bikes, lots of board games, good books to read or peruse. House was immaculate upon arrival and property well kept. Loved bathing in the outdoor shower. We look forward to returning someday with our kids.

About the host

As two middle-aged teachers, we built this cottage to be our bit of future retirement heaven. Until that time, we rent this haven to folks who turn out to be amazingly similar to us: lively people who are outdoorsy, like reading more than watching TV, enjoy chatting, paddling, an extended jigsaw puzzle accomplishment or a lengthy game of Risk, and who LOVE to eat!

Why they chose this property

When we cross the Cheapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, our stresses are left behind in the city, and years fall away. Eastern Shore has been protected by the CBBT toll, and a slower way of life is to be found here on the Shore. We avoid chain restaurants and instead shop at the many quirky mom&pop places, vegetable stands, seafood-from-an-icechest-from-the-back-of-a-truck style of life.

What makes this property unique

Snowy egrets winging down the cove, profound peace, solitude, a feeling of connection with a larger sense of wholeness; giant oak trees and the rippling gold of winter wheat across the front field. Shifting light creates translucent colors 'painted' across the cove at dawn & sunset. Even lightning storms, glimpsed across the Bay, make this an almost magically calming place.
