About this property

Strelna Coach House - Gateway to the moor

Summary:
Strelna Coach House, believed to date back to the 1800s, is a luxurious, cosy period property, in a peaceful setting on the outskirts of the highly sought-after moorland town of Bovey Tracey (‘The gateway to Dartmoor’). Just 5 minutes from the striking natural landmark of Haytor and set within beautiful grounds, Strelna Coach House is a warm, traditional, detached stone home offering peace, tranquillity, and stunning views all around. Sorry, but we cannot accept all-male or all-female groups.

The Space:
Relax and unwind in your private courtyard seated garden and enjoy the gorgeous sunsets or picnic in your own secured garden.

The Strelna Coach House garden is totally enclosed, making it a very pleasant and safe environment for both children (and the dog!)

The landscape is a sight to behold and truly has to be seen to be fully appreciated.

The cottage sleeps six people very comfortably and comprises of three bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms are upstairs one of which includes a kingsize bed and the other being a twin room. A family bathroom with a bath, shower, WC, and wash basin sits between both bedrooms. The third bedroom is located downstairs which we class as a snug room which includes a double sofa bed. There is an open-plan lounge with wood burner. The adjacent snug room opens out onto the secure and tranquil courtyard garden. An attractive and newly appointed kitchen includes all the latest appliances with an additional fridge and freezer located in the adjoining building. Between the snug room and the kitchen there is modern shower room with WC and wash basin for anyone sleeping on the ground floor. The dining area seats 6 guests.

Luxury bedding, soaps, and fluffy towels are provided, as is Wi-Fi. The cottage offers spacious and versatile accommodation while maintaining many of its original features. Access is via its own private driveway includes secure parking for 2 cars.

Guest Access:
Guests have access to their private gardens, parking and courtyard garden.

The Neighborhood:
Bovey Tracey is a beautiful and welcoming market town where the winding streets and picturesque parks provide the perfect environment for relaxation. The town is home to many restaurants, bars, coffee shops and attractions, each designed to assist those who wish to take time out and unwind.

The town's creative side, both historic and contemporary, can be seen in numerous shops and attractions across the town, including the House of Marbles and the internationally-renowned Devon Guild of Craftsmen, based in the 19th century water mill on the river, while the annual Contemporary Craft Festival is an event not to be missed.

Bovey Tracey gets its name from the river that flows through the westerly edge of the town and the de Tracey family who ruled over the area following the Norman Conquest. Its rich past can be revealed through stories and antiquities at the local Heritage Centre and with more than 100 listed buildings and architectural features to be found in the town.

All year, Bovey Tracey plays host to a wide range of valued and memorable events. From the fortnightly farmers market, and the fayre provided across each year by a host of contemporary craft markets, to the towns spot on the annual cycling Tour of Britain, there is much to see and do for those from nearby or far away.

It is Bovey’s location on the fringes of one of the UK’s largest national parks that provides much of its scenic charm. Just a few miles from the famous Haytor, Bovey Tracey is proud to be recognised by many as the gateway to Dartmoor; a landscape full of natural beauty, wildlife, and adventure.

There are pubs and inns that serve excellent food, such as the Welcome Stranger in Liverton, Halfway House in Bickington or, for that special celebration, Bovey Castle is only a few minutes drive. Ullacombe Farm is only one mile down the road which does excellent breakfasts or Brookside in Bovey. Also recommended are The Dolphin and Cromwell Arms as places serving good food and drink in the town.

The Dartmoor Whisky Distillery is located on an island in the Heart of Bovey Tracey in the historic 150-year-old Town Hall. In the Old Police Station you will find a visitors arrival centre, and souvenir shop, whilst in the main hall you will see the 'Still' operating, and a visitors centre attraction, and café.

The beaches on the south coasts of Devon and Cornwall are easily reached. Nearby attractions include National Trust properties such as Lydford Gorge and Castle Drogo; or visit Becky Falls and historic Plymouth with The Hoe, Barbican and National Marine Aquarium. Exeter city is only 30 minutes' drive where you can enjoy the Quay and paddle in hire canoes or perhaps a little shopping in Princess Hay.

Great couple of days
Beautifully clean and very comfortable cottage for family comprising three generations. Great location surrounded by beautiful mature trees and easy access to Dartmoor with lovely Brixham a little drive away. Sadly the booking process was less good.
