Located close to the seafront between Ventnor and Bonchurch, it’s situated on the southern side of the Isle of Wight, right in the heart of the famous Undercliff, much of which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The cottage has an interesting multi-tiered garden to its side and rear with steep stairs that climbs upwards into the hill behind it, at the top tier of the garden there is a summerhouse where you can choose to sit within or perch yourself outside on the patio, and enjoy the fabulous panoramic views over the English Channel. Ventnor town and esplanade is just over half a mile walk away from Seaport Cottage. Here you will find a number of lovely seaside tea shops, pubs and restaurants dotted along the seafront, including the well-known Spyglass Inn. There are also some quirky and bespoke shops, an award winning park and a children’s paddling pool. The town, which for the most part is built on the steep hill leading to the beach retains its original seaside charm and makes a great day out for all the family. Sheltered from the north by St. Boniface Downs, Ventnor benefits from its own micro-climate, providing an ideal haven for a variety of flora and fauna.
The neighbouring village of Bonchurch lies just to the east of Ventnor and is renowned for its literary connections; writers and poets such as Dickens, Stackpole and Swinburn all resided here at some point in time. Outdoor pursuits on the island are well catered for and include horse riding, fishing, cycling, paragliding, water sports and golf. There are numerous attractions for all ages across the island including The Needles with its chairlift, amusement park, boat rides, lighthouse and coloured sands of Alum Bay. You can also visit Queen Victoria’s favourite holiday residence, Osborne House and its gardens, as well as Blackgang Chine, Ventnor Botanical Gardens, Tapnell Farm Park, Carisbrooke Castle or the sailing towns of Yarmouth and Cowes. Fabulous place
We had a wonderful relaxing time at the cottage- it was absolutely perfect in every way and we were sorry to leave. The hosts had thought of everything to make it a home from home which is quite unusual and was a lovely surprise. We would definitely recommend and will be back Thank you so much
