If beach holiday fits your lifestyle then this is the place for you. A comfortable but classic Kiwi bach for your family or friends to enjoy New Zealand’s special wild coastal charm. You can be active diving for paua or crayfish, or relax on the beach while you wait for a fish to hook up. The Mataikona coast is full of opportunities for those who simply enjoy walking and fossicking. Suitable for all year round, you can sit in the sun and watch the hypnotic surf from the deck with a nice, refreshing drink or stay inside playing darts and keeping warm by the woodburner. Head down the road to the golf course, or visit the spectacular cliffs and views at Castlepoint.
Special conditions:
Smoking allowed outside only.
Please note the bach is on tank water so conserving water is appreciated.
Coastal conditions to be aware of:
In strong onshore winds, sand can drift onto the access road at Sandy Bay. The road is usually cleared promptly, but short delays are possible. Power cuts can occur from time to time in severe weather. Our water runs on an electric pump, so taps won’t run during an outage.
We provide a BBQ for cooking, torches and candles and the wood burner for heating.
If you’re arriving during a strong wind forecast, consider travelling in daylight and checking local updates.

We very much enjoyed our three-generation family holiday at the very comfortable and well-equipped Kiwi Bach by the Beach.Particular favourites:pizza making in the backyard pizza overpaua shell hunting on the beachbooks, toys and gamesTHANKYOU
The location is great, just across the road from an awesome coast. The bach is tidy with a good kitchen and welcoming lounge. Bedrooms were spot on. Hot water was a bit sketchy, but that may have been me. Overall, highly recommended for a stay in a coastal environment spanning a sandy beach and rocky coast.
Host and on the spot people on were helpful and approachable. The bach was comfortable and reasonably priced. Lots of extras one could help oneself to, though we brought our own. Lots of books. Most of all glorious location.
It was nice to be so close to the beach. The kids could run to the beach without us having to walk with them. Easy to fish and go back home for lunch and back to the beach again. Owners replied very quick if I sent them a message. Very nice working with them. Also easy to get the keys.
Great, well kitted-out bach with beautiful sea views from both floors. The beach is just across the road, which made for excellent beachcombing. Word of warning - Mataikona Road is prone to erosion and storms and quite challenging. Double check you've packed everything you need as there's no popping out for milk!
Awesome little beach batch, amazing views, right on the beach. House is really well stocked with linen, toiletries, pantry supplies, kitchen equipment, and PowerPoints. Loved using the woodfire oven to make pizzas. Great selection of board games and puzzles as unfortunately we had bad weather. Host was super lovely and quick to reply. If you love the remote East coast this is an excellent holiday spot. Thanks for having us
