About this property

UzuriBarossa - African Soul, Barossa Spirit

Nestled on two tranquil acres moments from Lyndoch and an hour from Adelaide city, our retreat blends the earthy elegance of Kenyan-inspired décor with the unmistakable character of the Barossa Valley. Our fully self contained cottage is perfectly suited to those seeking a restorative weekend escape from the city — a place to slow down, reconnect and savour the beauty of the Barossa at an unhurried pace. It also provides an intimate and elegant setting for celebrating a special occasion, whether it be a birthday, anniversary or simply time carved out together.

For weary travellers, the cottage offers more than just a comfortable night’s rest. The added convenience of on-site laundry facilities means you can refresh your wardrobe while you refresh yourself — making it ideal for those enjoying a longer journey or pausing for a few nights of well-earned comfort.

Fruit trees, native pines and towering gum trees frame the property that captures the rugged beauty of rural Australia, while winter brings visiting kangaroos and every season offers abundant birdlife and open skies.

The interiors are warm, textured and deeply inviting — a celebration of African craftsmanship paired with modern comfort — creating a space that feels both grounding and luxurious. Outside your door lies one of Australia’s most iconic wine regions, where world-class wineries and passionate local vintners await.

The Cottage
Uzuri’s amenities have been thoughtfully curated to ensure a stay that is both comfortable and indulgent. On arrival, enjoy a complimentary jar of delicious local Barossa Bluegum honey, a selection of teas and Nespresso coffee pods, along with a seasonal mix of herbs freshly picked from our garden — small touches that warmly welcome you to the region.

The spacious bedroom features a luxurious king-size bed (or the flexibility of two king singles) dressed in comfortable quality linens, a generous wardrobe, and extra blankets for cosy Barossa nights. African artwork and curated design touches throughout the space add warmth, texture and a sense of story.

The open-plan kitchen, dining and living area creates a welcoming space to relax and unwind. The kitchen is fully equipped for effortless cooking, with pots, pans, crockery, glassware, cutlery and teaware, along with quality appliances including a fridge, oven, microwave, gas cooktop, toaster and Nespresso coffee machine — perfect for starting your mornings just right. You’ll also find essential pantry supplies such as olive oil, salt, pepper, sugar, foil and cling wrap to make preparing meals easy and convenient.

The adjoining dining and living area invites you to slow down and settle into comfortable sofas, enjoy the two-seat dining table, or unwind with the HD Smart TV offering Google Chromecast, Netflix and Amazon Prime. High-speed, reliable Wi-Fi is available throughout the cottage, making Uzuri an excellent choice for guests who may wish to work remotely or attend to business while away — allowing productivity without compromising on comfort. Solar-powered air-conditioning ensures year-round comfort, thoughtfully aligned with our sustainable ethos.

A charming bathroom with a shower and toiletries completes the space, while convenient laundry facilities make longer stays effortless. Thoughtful details and little luxuries are dotted throughout, ensuring your stay feels restorative, comfortable, and infused with the spirit of Africa, set against the heart of the Barossa.

Nature, Trails, and Timeless Views
Take a leisurely stroll and wander through the grounds, where young fruit trees, fragrant herbs and seasonal flowers sit among established gum trees and cypress pines. These mature trees attract abundant birdlife, with Rainbow Lorikeets, Kookaburras and honeyeaters providing a constant, uplifting soundtrack.

Beyond the property, sweeping views stretch across surrounding vineyards, anchoring you firmly in the heart of the Barossa. Just moments away, a protected forest reserve offers even more to explore — home to kangaroos, diverse native plant varieties, and a dramatic gorge carved by a winding river. At dawn and dusk, kangaroos often move between the reserve and the property to graze, creating quiet, unforgettable moments of connection with the landscape.

It’s a setting designed to be taken in slowly — where vineyard vistas, forest trails and wildlife encounters come together in peaceful harmony.

Wine, Food, and Village Charm
Our property is part of the Lyndoch township, where iconic wineries, quirky boutiques, and excellent coffee are all just moments away. The town also offers the convenience of a local grocery store and bakery, making it easy to stock up on fresh bread, picnic supplies, or everyday essentials during your stay.

Much-loved eateries such as The Lord Lyndoch and The Table Café proudly showcase the region’s finest seasonal produce, while those less inclined toward wine will enjoy Ministry of Beer, a local favourite celebrating craft brews in a relaxed setting. From Lyndoch, take your pick of two elegant and grand châteaux to explore, each offering a glimpse into the area’s rich winemaking heritage.

Just minutes away in Rowland Flat, Lou Miranda Estate, a family-owned boutique winery sits among rolling vineyards and centenarian old vines. With a welcoming cellar door showcasing a premium range of estate-grown wines, this charming destination invites you to savour the rich flavours and stories of the land from soil to glass. Enjoy guided tastings, immersive experiences and a relaxed Mediterranean-inspired meal at the on-site restaurant, where seasonal local produce complements the estate’s wines perfectly.

I’m a designer at heart and a city person learning the joys of gardening and landscaping as I shape our property into something truly special. In 2017, my husband Kipi and I made a tree change with our two children after spending half my life in Melbourne’s vibrant inner suburbs and the earlier half in Malaysia.

These days, I embrace a slower pace of life, surrounded by beautiful nature and a wonderfully welcoming community.

I love cooking and bringing people together—there’s nothing better than sharing a meal around the table with family and friends. As a family, we also enjoy travelling, especially returning to Malaysia and Kenya to spend time with our extended families.

One of our most rewarding projects has been renovating a run-down pottery studio on our property and transforming it into a charming guesthouse. It’s now a warm and inviting space where friends, family, and guests can relax and unwind.

We feel incredibly lucky to call this place home and are delighted to share our little slice of paradise with travellers. Meeting new people is always a pleasure, and I look forward to hosting you and making your stay comfortable, memorable, and truly special.
