About this property
Kangaroo Creek Cottage
We have created a calm, serene country-style cottage with all the trimmings, located on a separate block of land against the backdrop of the bush teeming with local wildlife.
You can relax on the porch in the morning or evening watching the golden light make its way across the valley, while enjoying a coffee or wine and seasonal treats from our greenhouse, or larder.
Enjoy the Fryers Ridge Nature Reserve with many kilometers of tracks, fantastic for hiking, mountain biking and horse riding.
Kangaroo Creek Cottage is situated just south of the picturesque township of Taradale.
Great for both city and regional folk, it is ideally located in Mount Alexander Shire a short 10-minute drive from the Calder Freeway.
Around half way between Melbourne and Bendigo, the region is noted for its wineries, markets, restaurants, goldfields history and natural environment. Nearby towns include Kyneton, Castlemaine and Daylesford so there is plenty to see and do!
Beside us is the Fryers Ridge Nature Reserve with kilometers of tracks, fantastic for hiking, mountain biking and horse riding.
The space + guest access
Upon arrival you’ll be delivered to the secluded cottage over the authentic Kangaroo Creek supervised by the property’s well-trained pooch Chester, and equine friends Jimmy and Fred.
Important notes for guests check in:
In person greeting. Cottage is located 250 metres from parking at main house in wet season and 100 metres from parking in dry season. Guests will be delivered to cottage by buggy to preserve the serenity of the area.
The creek-scape provides a natural separation from the main property, with the cottage just beyond and slightly elevated on a couple of acres with private views.
After two years in renovation, the homely accommodation has emerged from what was once a twelve-poled, open-walled farm shed with a corrugated iron roof.
Complete with original poles, the cosy country cottage now features a queen bed, lounge and dining areas, a fully self-contained kitchen and bathroom, log fire heating and split system cooling, and a delightful outdoor BBQ and porch area.
We have created a calm and serene country-style cottage with all the trimmings.
The cottage has a well-tended garden in establishment, and is surrounded by bush teeming with local wildlife and birds. Close by you will see many a kangaroo and stock grazing against the backdrop of the bush, the creek and a property dam.
There’s plenty to do and see on the property itself. You can make use of the private picnic area and fire pit, which is just a short stroll down to the creek bed and surrounded by native gums and a flowing creek for most of the year.
You can relax on the porch in the morning or evening watching the golden light make its way across the valley, while enjoying a coffee or wine and seasonal treats from Malcolm and Marina’s Garden, greenhouse, or larder.
Checking out the starry nights is highly recommended!
Malcolm and Marina have lived in the area for twelve years.
Experienced craftspeople with an eye for detail, they have created an idyllic country experience for guests.
They are happy to talk you through what happens on the property, what there is to see and do locally, and will make every effort to make sure you are comfortable on the property.
Breakfast supplies are included and will feature local fresh produce direct from Marina’s garden, greenhouse, larder or oven!
