As day turns to night, star gazing is made easy without the interference of artificial lights. If you are looking for more adventure, access to the Black Hills National Forest trails, and The Mickelson Trail are both located within a mile of the property.

Feel free to bring your side by sides or motorcycles. We have plenty of additional space for trailers. We also have a 50 amp full hook up RV site available. We do not rent the RV space on a regular basis. It is reserved for friends and family meeting up or traveling together.

Departing Argyle Acres in any direction leads to amazing Black Hills adventures. We are centrally located between Custer State Park, (the Nation's second largest state park,) Wind Cave National Park, and Jewel Cave National Monument. These locations are among the most popular attractions in the Black Hills. Hot Springs to the south offers the Mammoth Site, (an active archeological dig,) and Moccasin Springs, (a natural mineral spring and spa.) Traveling north you will find Crazy Horse Memorial and Mount Rushmore Memorial. If day trips are of interest to you, Badlands National Park to the East, and Devils Tower National Monument to the West are well worth the trip.

Black Hills Beauty!

Argyle Acres was the perfect home base for exploring all of the National & State parks nearby. It was immaculately clean, comfortable, & had everything you might need. I even met the host when we were both outside taking photos of the beautiful sunset one evening. We definitely recommend this adorable cottage!

Black Hills 2024

The cabin was the perfect location to all the sites we wanted to see, Black Hills, Custer State Park, National Parks, and Mt Rushmore. Check-in was very easy and the cabin was extremely clean. We had a question about the gas grill while we were there and the hosts were super responsive. We loved our stay!

Great Little Place

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Argyle Acres. The house was the perfect size for our family of four. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, cookie sheets, and cooking utensils. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. It was a great location - driving distance to all of the sights, and then come home away from the hustle and bustle for dinner and relaxing in the evening. We had fun cooking s'mores in the fire pit area. It was a great stay; one of the nicest VRBOs we've stayed in!

WHAT A VIEW!!

This place was exactly as described. We loved staying here, was great for our truck and trailer, lots of room to park/pull around. If you are looking for an area to off road, this is the place to stay. Trails all around and right in the middle of all of the quaint little mountain towns as well. Hosts were amazing.

Black Hills Gem!

Description was very accurate of the property. Easy to get to all of the Black Hills spots of interest from this cabin. Cabin was very clean, functional, and had all necessities needed for a long weekend vacation for a family. Owners were very responsive and very respectful. Extra bonus for us was modest pricing and no extra fees that are starting to pop up with other listings......Thank You!

Wonderful!

Look no further! If you want the perfect place to relax and enjoy family time on your vacation- this is it! Our family enjoyed the quiet, peaceful evenings out on the deck after our busy days being tourists! Amazing views and sunsets. Our children loved the space to run around. The home was very clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed and more. The location was perfect- close to almost everything on our list and quiet for some down time. Debbie and Doug made sure we were all set- such wonderful hosts! We already are telling everyone we know to stay here during their next SD vacation. You won’t regret this stay!

Perfect Plains Oasis!

We came up to relax & explore the Black Hills, Jewel Cave & Mt Rushmore without camping. This modern home feels like leaps up from clamping without the crowds of town and hotels. It was perfect! After a day exploring, we could come back and play games, make s’mores, cook our own meals (food allergies here) & sleep with fresh air coming in the windows in cozy beds. Debbie & Doug were perfect hosts. She replied so fast to questions I had when preparing, helped with some suggestions (like making sure to have a reservation at Jewel Cave & spending enough time in Custer state park). It truly was exactly what we were looking for on this summer breakaway! Plan to tuck suitcases away or lay flat & open under the bed as there aren’t closets but the space was perfect for our family of 3. Be sure to make time to try The Custer Wolf if you also have food allergies (or even if not). The service & food were 5* too! Thank you for such a wonderful place!

Quiet and peaceful

We were looking to experience being in the prairie. The location was perfect for that. It is just about in the middle of nowhere. There are neighbors but at a long distance. Our hosts live next door but we rarely saw them. They came by our 2nd night when we were sitting out on the front porch to say hello and chatted a little bit but that was it. Sitting outside was a delight - Adirondack chairs beside the house, a picnic table on the other side of the house, and a small table and two chairs right on the porch. Perfect! Beautiful skies to view - sunsets to the west, sunrises to the east, gorgeous clouds, and LOTS of stars at night. Inside the house, it was also just about perfect. Comfortable furniture (although I missed having a coffee table or ottoman to put my feet up in the living room area), everything we needed in the kitchen, comfy beds, and everything perfectly clean. We took trips to Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse, and spent the rest of the time at Custer State Park which we LOVED. Beautiful drives to and from everything. Gorgeous area. Shopping in Custer worked our great.

Perfect Black Hills Family Vacation

Our stay at Argyle Acres was amazing! We are a family of 4 (the two of us and our two kiddos ages 5, and 9), and the space was great! From the beginning, Debbie and Doug were amazing to work with! They are very kind and responsive hosts, who truly care about your stay and comfort. Everything was so clean and inviting from the moment we pulled in and stepped inside! The welcome card was very thoughtful, as well as the S'mores Station supplies. Everything was very organized and easy to use/find. When we did need help, both Debbie and Doug were very prompt and accommodating. Our son LOVED the soft rug, and our daughter loved the serenity and peace of being in nature. The beds and pillows were all very comfortable, and the towels were SO FLUFFY! Our kids loved the extra throw blankets, and the campfire blankets provided, as well. We had everything we needed to make simple meals during our stay, and were thankful for all the fresh supplies (the new dish sponge, paper towels, etc) to help keep things clean. We all enjoyed bonding over the board games that were available, during the small windows of downtime we had between our adventures. I will never get over how beautiful the sunset and sunrise are over the landscape, there. It was truly an unforgettable stay, and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for serenity while being in a perfect location to get to many of the amazing sites to see in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Host profile image
Hello, we are Debbie and Doug Moore from O-H-I-O. In December of 2016 we made the choice to begin the enormous task of downsizing in preparation for living a full time RV life style and traveling the country. In 2017 we hit the road! We were able to experience the most amazing adventures. During 2020 and all of the unknowns that came with it, we decided we should come off the road. We knew in our hearts that South Dakota was the place for us. The Black Hills offers everything we were looking for. A quiet simple life full of the great outdoors!

Now that we have settled into life as South Dakotans, we enjoy our new favorite activity of hitting the trails in our side by side. We get to see the Black Hills in a totally new and different way. We also have taken on jobs in the tourist industry and love meeting people from all over the world.

We cherish our life together, and embrace all that is new and awe inspiring. Life is a journey with one adventure after another. We are excited to share our home with you and all that is South Dakota!

Why they chose this property

We were drawn to the peace and quite of the property. We love the wide open space and the views of the Black Hills. Our favorite activities are sitting out on the deck siping on a beverage looking for wildlife, watching beautiful sunsets and star gazing. On occasion we can watch a mesmerizing storm pass over the Black Hills. Each day is beautiful and different in its own special way.

What makes this property unique

The country setting and beautiful views bring a sense of calm to reset and recharge. The wide open space allows you to get away from the hustle and bustle of the day. Depending on the time of year you may see the property filled with wild flowers. Deer often visit the property, and in the fall you may see elk. Rabbits are often found playing around the cabin. The sunrises, sunsets, and star gazing are a bonus each day.
