About this property

The perfect lakefront cabin close to Acadia National Park

Lantern Shores is the perfect lakefront cabin located on George's Pond. If you’re looking to get away, disconnect and get into nature, it has everything you could want for a quiet, peaceful Maine vacation. Its rustic ambiance has all of the modern-day amenities without sacrificing the experience. It is lake life at its best! Whether you like to swim, fish, kayak, paddleboard, or just fall asleep listening to the loons sing and awaken to the sunrise watching eagles and osprey feed on the lake, this is where it's at. This cabin is nestled on George's Pond which is a 380-acre spring-fed lake surrounded by glimpses of Schoodic Mountain. This cabin sleeps 8 (king master bed, 2 twin beds, double bed in the loft, and 2 twin beds in the garage loft). We are minutes to Schoodic Mountain and Schoodic Beach which is a great place to hike and swim or have a picnic on Donnell’s Pond. Schoodic’s summit is flat with 360-degree breathtaking views over Frenchman Bay and Mount Desert Island. The Downeast Sunrise Trail is a revamped railway with miles of trail for biking, hiking, ATV, or walking (see website for more information) just 5 minutes from the cabin. Schoodic Head is 30 minutes towards Winter Harbor and also part of Acadia National Park. There you will find beautiful hikes, a cute harbor town, great ice cream and see some more of beautiful Maine. The cabin is 40 minutes to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Acadia National Park, known as the North Atlantic crown jewel, protects some of the most beautiful and highest rocky coastline. You can hike, mountain bike, shop the island boutiques, dine in Bar Harbor restaurants, go on a whale watch or grab a delicious homemade ice cream cone. You can also play golf at the famous Kebo Valley course. Adventure awaits! On your way home, stop and pick blueberries and make a cobbler or relax on the screen porch. This rare screen porch is sure to relax you and is the perfect place to start the day with a cup of coffee or to take an afternoon nap. We provide kayaks and life vests. There are multiple local bikes, kayaks, and boat rentals available. Acadia is a must-see but George's Pond is where the memories are made!

Awesome
We loved our stay at lantern shores! The cabin was clean, well stocked with anything you may need, and had a stunning view! The owner was very responsive and met all of our needs. And don’t forget to get a fresh baked blueberry pie from Amy!

Great week
Property is as pictured. Very well-kept and comfortably furnished cottage. Kitchen and bath look recently remodeled. Access to lake from dock or shore. Nice antique working wood stove kept it cozy on cooler evenings. There is also a wall mounted heater which works well. Bed in main bedroom is comfortable, did not use other bedrooms so can’t comment on that. Owner is responsive to questions and very helpful. Used the gas grill which worked well. Easy drive to Mt. Desert Island, also several good nearby hikes. Would definitely return.

Delightful Lakeside Retreat!
The cottage ‘Lantern Shores’ worked beautifully for us! We had 2 couples over the first few days and the last half of the week we had all to ourselves. We practically lived on this comfortable screened porch, right on the waters edge, while relaxing and listening to the loons. We kayaked daily, and found the lake to be surprisingly quiet and peaceful for the last week before Labor Day. The cottage and guest house were comfortable and NICELY appointed. The scent of pine paneling brought back memories of the perfect Maine camp from summers past. Schoodic Penninsula was a breeze to get to, and after Hurricane Franklin, the crashing waves were exhilarating at a safe distance. Danielle was a delight and made communication easy. She helped us arrange 2 Maine blueberry pies baked and delivered after arrival by her neighbor. An amazing way to begin our memorable week in Maine. We highly recommend treating yourselves to Lantern Shores on George’s Pond!

Perfect!
My family had a great week on the lake. The cabin is just perfect! Danielle is very responsive and gave us lots of suggestions on where to eat and things to do. The lake is absolutely beautiful! It was nice to come back to after venturing off each day. My teens loved the rock with diving board. We got a lot of use out of the kayaks and bonfire. Loved hearing the loons every day and stargazing at night. The location is close to plenty of activities to keep you busy. Make sure you order a pie from Amy at Flour Power Bakery. She brings it right to you and they are delicious. My kids loved it so much I ordered 2 of them!

My husband grew up in Bar Harbor. As a child, he spent his summers "upta camp" swimming, boating, fishing, and hiking. He wanted our son to grow up making those same memories. We love George's Pond. It is our happy place.

Why they chose this property

George's Pond is far enough away that you can avoid the tourists and chaos of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park but still enjoy incredible ME experiences. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are close enough you can go for a day hike, a whale watch, grab dinner but come home to the serenity of the loons and eagles feeding on the lake. There are many great hikes, biking trails, and nature's attractions nearby. George's Pond is where you can truly disconnect, relax, and get into nature.

What makes this property unique

George’s Pond is unique because of its location, incredible nature and wildlife. It is lake life at its best and close to great hiking, mountain biking, Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.
