Peaceful & Elegant Treetop Hideaway in Volcano Village
Set on a quiet street in historic Volcano Village, Hiʻiaka Guesthouse is a private, romantic pied-à-terre on the second floor of a beautiful 2-story custom home. Surrounded by old-growth ʻōhiʻa forest, and overlooking a lush and peaceful garden, the guesthouse offers a distinct treehouse-like experience and sublime closeness to nature. The entrance to the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park is just a 5-minute drive, while the Village shops, restaurants and art gallery are within walking distance.
The entire second floor is reserved for the exclusive use of our guests. A private staircase leads from the parking area to a large dining porch with vaulted ceilings and skylights. From here, double doors open to the bright living room and fully equipped kitchen with custom wooden cabinets and a breakfast bar. The open plan, generous windows and high ceilings throughout the home offer a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience, while the warm wood floors and tasteful furnishings blending Japanese and Polynesian elements imbue the space with a sophisticated yet casual feel that is true to the spirit of Hawaii’s rich cultural fusion.
The bedrooms are equipped with a California King and a queen-sized bed, and fitted with high quality linens. For our smallest guests, we provide a brand new BabyBjörn travel crib. You’ll also find a small desk with laptop-friendly workspace in the master. In the bathroom, a Spanish-tiled bath & shower combo featuring a large bay window offers unobstructed views into the pristine forest surrounding the house and invites you to luxuriate in the tub after a long day of hiking. Toiletries and ample towels are provided.
There is free WiFi throughout the property, a wireless universal phone charger in each bedroom, and a USB port for charging your devices in the kitchen. In the living room, you’ll find a Bluetooth speaker and a selection of carefully curated Hawaiian literature. Laundry facilities are available on the ground floor.
Perfect for honeymooners, birdwatchers, nature lovers, small groups of friends, artists, writers, and those seeking a unique and relaxing rainforest experience, Hiʻiaka Guesthouse is the perfect sanctuary to wake up to the sounds of local birds and watch the evening mists float through the treetops.
The local contact lives quietly in a separate downstairs unit. She is always available to you for assistance or suggestions but will otherwise leave you to enjoy the guest house and gardens in complete privacy.
Please note: To keep Hiʻiaka Guesthouse a place of rest and inspiration, there is no television in the home. Due to the rainforest surroundings and absence of neighbors on all sides of the property, we have also chosen not to use window coverings.

Joey and Aurelio were wonderful hosts. They were very responsive to our texts and phone messages and made sure everything was alright. This is a beautiful space inside and out. You really feel like you are in a treehouse.
The little tree house was beautiful and cozy. The kitchen was extremely well stocked. It had everything for cooking. The host even left us fresh cream for our coffee. The birds and frog sounds were charming. We loved our stay there. When we come back for another visit, we would love to stay there again.
We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful BnB. The furnishings were lovely, the kitchen incredibly well equipped, the host helpful and responsive. Only thing to be aware of is the road to the BnB. Not good for a low car or sports car. Recommend at least a regular sedan or an SUV would be best.
The setting is gorgeous! Great location for volcano viewing

Great, restful stay. Exceedingly comfortable and restful. We enjoyed the furnishings and beds/comforters were excellent. Your mother Aurelia was gracious and we had a lively conversation. We’d love to come back.

Very beautiful home right in the middle of the woods! Great place.
The road going in was a little rough for a short distance but you quicky get used to it.
Got to see Kīlauea erupt and this place is only minutes away from the park. It is very isolated and yes the road to the place is a bit bumpy but it was isolated and very peaceful. All of the appliances were working and it was a good place to stop at the end of the day. Lots of character in this place and glad we stayed here. Do recommend. Just take your time on the entrance road.
Tucked away in the jungle, surrounded by tree ferns and other greenery like a delightful grown-up treehouse. The host and the lady who lives on the ground floor were both friendly and helpful. Spacious rooms, well-stocked kitchen (with teakettle!). Great location for exploring: just ten minutes from lots of hikes in Volcanoes National Park, and also our base for forays to Papakōlea /Green Sand beach in the south and Hilo/Puna to the east. A lovely place to stay.
Such a lovely place to stay in volcano, superb location! Very comfortable, the master bedroom bed was extremely comfortable. Anything we needed Aurelia was there to help. I would recommend this place to our Ohana and would book again. I would however recommend the family invest in a gas grill for some outdoor cooking on the beautiful lanai. x
Loved everything about this property except the mildew smell. We have never rented a place in the rainforest before so maybe all of the places smell like that? There were lots of extras! Would love to type more but the app wont let me.
This is a fantastic property with a fully secluded feeling. The property is surrounded by forest and is high enough in elevation that it stayed really cool during our stay.
We spent several of our mornings and evenings out on the balcony, taking in the ambiance. The surrounding forest is beautiful and serene.
The property is close enough to volcano that it's easy to watch the sunrise at the volcano national park.
It's still close enough to Hilo that we were able to hit the city on multiple days for activities.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us such a great review! We are thrilled your enjoyed your stay and hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back. Mahalo and a hui hou (until next time)!
Overall, we had an amazing time. Location is fantastic, tucked away in the rainforest, super close to Volcanoes National Park. Joey and Aurelia were very helpful and accessible. The only real drawback was the whole house was pretty musty smelling. It got somewhat better as we ran the dehumidifier, but never went away. Everything else was so great, so this was kind of unfortunate.
Love, love, love this property! Fit our needs perfectly! Ask before you buy or rent, this house has just about everything you would need. Ask Aurelia or Joey about needed items. Aurelia had snorkels, towels, chairs, and a cooler. The house was well equipped- coffee, sugar, tea, bath products, laundry!! Thank you!!

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review! It was truly our pleasure to welcome you and we're thrilled you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you back again in the future. Until then, aloha and a hui hou!
Loved our stay in this beautiful space, with gleaming hardwood and vintage Hawaiian decor throughout, nestled among the tropical trees. Very peaceful and cozy. Very close to the National Park, as well as the restaurants and art center in Volcano Village. Beautiful lanai to enjoy coffee and dinner. Kitchen was indeed fully stocked, even with coffee provided. Interesting khalij pheasants in the surrounding forest, as well as mynahs and various types of cardinals. Only complaint was caretaker's smoking outside directly underneath that lanai, which forced us inside (we should've asked her to smoke elsewhere, I now realize). Would definitely return! Aloha and mahalo!
It takes a bit of effort to get there but then you are transported to a rainforest hide away where the only sound you hear is the birdsong, tree frogs and sometimes the gentle rain. You are in a lovely green cocoon away from the hustle and bustle. Explore the beauty of the east side!
We had one small problem, I mention it not because that was too difficult to deal with, but to show you the owners did everything to make it right. It’s nice to know they care about your experience.

Cozy, but needs a few touches
The backdrop is absolutely stunning. Windows peaking into the surrounding rainforest make for a very cozy afternoon.
However, the place needs a little love to make it more user friendly. There is a very overpowering musty smell which was impossible to air out. That may come with the territory of a foggy rainforest, but in combination with the somewhat dated furnishings, it felt like a place that's been a bit neglected.
Also, the bed in the spare bedroom is extremely hard and impossible to sleep on without needing a chiro in the morning.
All in all, while we loved the surrounds and enjoyed having dinner on the balcony, we were left somewhat disappointed .
We loved our stay at the treetop home in Volcano. Highlights included: remote, peaceful and unique location, large deck to relax and listen to nature sounds, walkable to Volcano village's coffee shop, short drive to National Park. Very comfortable, clean and well equipped home.
