Plan your escape to the Centennial State and book your stay at this charming 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom Salida home, which sleeps 4 comfortably! Offering cozy accommodations, terrific amenities and an unbeatable location in the Rocky Mountains, this property ensures the Colorado escape you have been looking for.

UNBEATABLE LOCATION
We are peacefully located just two blocks from the heart of the downtown Salida. This is the ideal location for exploring Colorado’s largest historic district. Take a stroll downtown to check out various art galleries, breweries, restaurants, shopping district and summer festivals.

An endless list of outdoor activities are within arm’s reach of this property! In the winter, you will be within 20 miles of Monarch Mountain for prime skiing and snowboarding. During the summer and winter, explore a variety of hiking, running and mountain biking trails, accessible within three blocks.

Summer months offer adventurous opportunities. For a fun afternoon, grab a cold one at a local brewery and catch some live music at Riverside Park. The river walk is just one block away where you can enjoy swimming, and inner tubing. For a bigger river adventure, join an outfitter for a rafting trip through the scenic Royal Gorge or Brown’s Canyon.

To cap off memorable days, dine at tasty local eateries, like Amicas and the famous Boathouse Cantina on the river - both within walking distance.

THE HOUSE
We are in the business of sleep and relaxation because we know this location is full of outdoor adventures. Hence, we have invested in our bedding. From the top rated Helix and Beauty Rest mattresses to luxurious linens. We use Comphy© spa linens: signature softness and a track record of improving sleep. Best of all, these linens support small business and are eco-friendly to help us in our commitment to the environment.

We constantly update our property to make things more comfortable for our guests. Upon entry of this historic home, you will immediately notice the authentic 1890’s hardwood floors and abundant windows, allowing natural light to flow through the interior.

Look forward to unwinding in the open, well-lit living room, where you can kick up your feet, sink into the comfortable sofa, and watch TV on the flat-screen television where you can stream your favorites from Disney, Netflix, and Hulu.

When the weather is nice, relax on the front porch while gazing at the Sangre De Cristo and Saguache Ranges, including the 14,000-foot Collegiate Peaks.

Back inside, the well-equipped kitchen has all the essential cooking tools, so you can whip up tasty meals and snacks throughout your stay. These home-cooked meals can be enjoyed in the adjacent dining area or out on the back patio, featuring a covered outdoor table, bbq grill and a small flower garden.

THE ONLY BATHROOM
This full en-suite bathroom is located in the second bedroom and is shared with the guests staying in the master. We get it; this is potentially an awkward location for the only bathroom. Our guests comment that the house is Comfortable, Cozy, and Clean. We feel these far outweigh the Character of the bathroom location.

Perfect location, great host
A cute original mining home updated and conveniently located 2 blks from downtown Salida. It was our base for a two-week stay and the host(ess) answered any requests promptly. We walked from the house to shop, eat, drink and hike nearby trails along the river. The owners live next door and both properties are well kept.

Great place in Sakuda
Perfect spot for us during our recent visit to Salida. Close to “ downtown” Salida, Sweetie’s and The Biker & the Baker, multiple walks & trails. Well-equipped kitchen, outside patio & bar-b-q. One item to note: the one bathroom is only accessible thru one of the bedrooms. Just make sure layout works for your travel configuration. Love the place-we’ll be bacj!

About the host

Hosted by Rene Frazee

Host profile image
We welcome you to our cozy, historic home in Salida. Both of my (Rene's) maternal and paternal great-grandparents, and grandparents helped settle Salida. My maternal side came over from Italy and helped build the railroads and my paternal side used the railroads as miners. My grandfather was an accomplished western writer as well, writing fictional and historical works about the area.
Both my husband and I met doing one of our favorite pastimes working as raft guides on the Arkansas River. After moving around a bit between his home state of Maine and living in Vienna, Austria for a long time, we decided to move our family back to Salida. Presently, we both work as public school teachers teaching math (Scott) and Spanish (Rene). Likewise, Scott is the director of coaching for the soccer club called Chaffee County United.
Our children are Grace and Ethan. They can be found surfing in the river, kayaking, mountain climbing and skiing when they are not in school, and occasionally when they should be in school.

Why they chose this property

Two things make our property stand out: our attention to detail and our location.
Our house is a historic adobe dating back to the 1890's. We have remodeled the property and added details to make a stay here cozy, comfortable and homey. It has a fully stocked kitchen, outdoor patio and grill, and an inviting living room area. Every year we work on updating various features. This year was no exception as we updated ceiling fans and lighting. Comfort is our number one priority when we look at details. We take great pride in providing comfortable beds and bedding, using Helix and Beauty Rest mattresses and Comphy bedding and sheets. Comphy is a small, sustainably minded company out of Washington state that has a patent on sheets that are specifically fabricated for the hospitality industry. We also provide locally made soaps, shampoos and conditioner.
This property is perfectly located to all the things you could possibly want to do in Salida. An easy two block walk will get you to into the heart of downtown, the river, the parks, and the river walk where people can tube, paddle board, and leisurely float through town, and has easy access to all the mountain biking/hiking trails. Likewise, it is conveniently located to all the restaurants, supermarkets and shops. In fact, it is easier and faster to walk downtown than it is to drive.

What makes this property unique

This little house has a lot of history. The area started out as a fruit orchard and throughout the neigborhood you can still find apricot trees from that time. The house itself was an old railroad tenement dwelling that housed Italian railroad workers who came to help build the railroads. The house was built on a rock and mortor foundaation and it has a lot of character from that time including high ceilings and thick walls. It's proximity to town, and town itself, makes the area walkable. We have had guests tell us how nice it was to park their car and not have to move it the entire visit.
Another unique benefit is the area itself. It is close enough to be in the middle of town and then hop onto a mountain trail and be completely away from everything. It is a centralized mountain community and it is not unusual to see wildlife in town with a relative large deer herd.
Getting out of town to enjoy the surroundings is astoundingly easy. Monarch mountain is twenty minutes away for skiing or hiking, or biking the crest trail. There are natural hot springs throughout the area. One in town (accessible by bike path), and multiple hot springs within a 60 mile radius.
